Evan and Rachel wait is that a sign or what?! I studying Korean since 2013 and I studied shortly last year Japanese but I didn't complete it and today my friend is suggesting me to study Indonesian as a 3 months new language and as I have Indonesian friends... I will give it another thought as I wish complete Japanese or spanich. :) P'. s I wish learn Tagalog more for an unknown reason as I liked it

Evan and Rachel If you would have studied Indonesian first, then Korean your progress in Korean would have been faster. There are already some grammatical similarities like agglutination, even though both languages are not related. Madonna Youssef Indonesian is considered of the easiest Austronesian languages, so learning Tagalog or any closer Filipino languages will be easier. Even the distantly related Hawaiian or Maori. My Auntie who speaks Bisaya and Tagalog lived in Indonesia for nine months and was surprised how much she understood, when she listened carefully. No classes or attempt to really learn Indonesian.

I've been to learn Indonesian language for 6 years and now work for the Dutch embassy in Indonesia. Indonesian not as easy as that. Indonesian for least has 3 levels speaking and those are needed to speak. yet in fact the Javanese language is much more difficult and confusing rather than Indonesian, there are linguistic hierarchy consist of 3 classes you should use when you are speaking, like ngoko, kromo, and kromo inggil, by which those 3 classes contains totally different vocabulary and grammar, for exp: - I would like to meet him / I wanna meet him - saya hendak menemuinya (formal Indonesian) - aku mau bertemu dengannya (informal Indonesian) - gue pengen ketemu dia (Indonesian slang) - aku tak nemoni dheweke/aku arep nemoni de'e (Javanese ngoko) - kulo kajeng manggihi piyambakipun (Javanese kromo) - dalem kerso manggihi panjenenganipun (Javanese kromo inggil) That's crazy, isn't it?

Reason #8 I would like to add to what makes Indonesian/Malay an easy language to learn besides three mentioned: 1. No gender 2. No singular-plural (a vague concept since plural can be hinted by "-" or the word "banyak/ramai" and "-" is not always used for plural as it can be used for words like "holy-moly" and "hocus-pocus" in English where you change the first letter of the word and sometimes random letters in the words. For example: hingar-bingar, hiruk-pikuk, haru-biru)

Woohoo! I LOVE those plural words. Can't believe we forgot to mention that!

Indonesia has a lot of local/tradition language from Aceh to Papua, and it's very different word and meaning. We talk each other in local language. But, the special one about Indonesia, when i travelled to Sumatra, Sulawesi, Borneo, Bali, etc, i can talk in Bahasa Indonesia with local people.

I watched this because I'll be going to a basic Indonesian workshop at my school later today. I was told the language is very easy and it makes me want to learn it (especially after all the struggles I'm experiencing with Korean right now). Out of curiosity, what are other trend languages right now? I didn't even know there were any!

Hi Lindsay, great video! How's your Bahasa Indonesia now? Feel up for some challenge? 😈 Can you please spell this : *Mempertanggung-jawabkan* *Also, try some of this tongue twister (if you dare)* : - Kuku kaki kiri kakekku kaku - Saya sebal sama situ sebab situ suka senyum-senyum sama saya, sehingga sekarang saya suka senyum-senyum sendiri saja. - Dudung, ambilkan dandang di dinding dong, Dung! - Kelapa di Parut, Kepala di Garuk (3x) - Toko-toko di kota kita tutup ketika kita tetap buka toko kita. - Rika tarik-tarik rok Rina dan Rina tarik-tarik rok Rika. Rok Rika robek-robek dan rusak, Rok Rina rusak-rusak dan robek. - Jangan coba-coba cium cucu-cucuku, kalau cuma mau cium cucu-cucuku cuma-cuma. - Ular melingkar-lingkar di pagar bundar Please.. please.. please do that. I bet it will be a lot of fun to see you try spelling some of that! PS : It will not actually help your Indonesian languange though.. sorry 😁

English words that come from Indonesian-Malay include orangutan ("forest man"), ketchup (which originally referred to a wide variety of thick sauces), and amok. Part of the difference between written Indonesian and written Malay--in the Roman alphabet--is due to Indonesia and Malaysia having been Dutch and British colonies respectively: words that start with "Y" in English and Malay start with "J" in Dutch and Indonesian!
@TheBECK321
@TheBECK321 6 лет назад
Nope, we use Y&J normally, the difference more to accent & some same words but with different meaning, for example in Malaysia budak means kids or children, while Indonesian budak means slave, & kids is anak not budak

Especially colloquial Indonesian can be very detailed and dynamic to the point that I could sometimes get lost in the middle of conversation when hanging out with friends back at home. I didn't even know that the word "meper" existed :P We do not have articles! True! This is probably the reason why I went crazy when preparing for german DAF-test. Great video, Lindsay!
@LindsayDowLanguages
@LindsayDowLanguages 7 лет назад
Thanks, Ardhi! :) Interesting you didn't know meper - I guess that proves how huge the range of colloquial Indonesian is! :p

@fadliarfan212
@fadliarfan212 7 лет назад
Actually, it was not very surprising you didn't know it. It's not Bahasa Indonesia, you won't find that word on KBBI. It's 'bahasa gaul' or 'slang language', mostly used on big city. I believe it's origin was from either Betawi or Sundanese people kamuslengkap.com/kamus/sunda-indonesia/arti-kata/meper glosar.id/index.php/print/,283-meper,Bahasa+GAUL-adalah.xhtml _Meper :_ - mengusapkan benda kotor pada batu, kayu agar lepas (Sunda) - mengelapkan tangan yang kotor atau terkena sesautu secara diam-diam, bisa ke tembok, baju orang lain, dll (Gaul) PS : Ardhi, kurang nongkrong kali ente bro, bukannya nama ente Sunda itu? Hehe.
@Si_nengatcha
@Si_nengatcha 6 лет назад
Really?? I am native betawi, and I grow up with that world. So i guess it's betawi adapted into colloquial Indonesian, just like gue, elo, nongkrong, mangap, etc?

When you gave your initial greeting, from some dark place in my subconscious there surfaced the reply _khabar baik!_. IIRC the exchange literally goes, "What news? --- Good news!" I suppose like you could say in English, "How ye doin'? Doin' fine!" Then when you got on to the numbers I started recalling the Malagasy numerals, isa, rua, telo, efatra ... dimi ... folo ... (no don't ask!)
