As a potential ISTP, I think that when we say ISTPs are emotionless we mean that we are not emotional and we can ignore what does not matter. In my life there are some people who are very sensitive and can get disappointed easily and I always think about (why don’t they just accept it and move on) just as simple as this. I am not sure if my words make sense but at least I tried.

I think a healthy ISTP doesn't care what other people think. An unhealthy ISTP, might, though it will not feel comfortable.

Agreed I used to worry about what other people felt but it didn't feel right as it was always a detached emotion as I learn more about istp certain aspects of my life made more sense

I disagree with being comfortable with silence. Of course I'm, but then you know that ppl usually aren't so you start thinking what to say to break it and make it not awekward.

Thanks Joyce and fellow istp's. Been waiting for this video! One note on #5, you are easily swayed by people. From my perspective, I feel like it's not hard to convince me of something if it's true. Maybe other people peoples perspective are intimidated by it, but i don't feel it. Also I find many times if there are multiple ways of doing something, such as a task or solve a problem, and I feel like there is no difference in benefit, I can be easily convinced to try something differently. But that might be an enneagram 9 thing. Cheers, Brady

@@JoyceMeng22 thanks Joyce! I have also tried to figure out about masculine/feminine Ti from the OPS system. Maybe a feminine Ti is more easily convinced? But I struggle to analyze that or determine if its valid. 🤷‍♂️

It's how amazing how coherent they were when exchanging ideas and agreeing on the same concepts. It's like they finished each other's sentences with precision and as little words as possible, so fascinating! Even the way their facial expressions were so synchronicized or hardly had any animated hand gestures or quick body movements was so noticeable. Another wonderful panel Joyce! 👏👏👏

No. 7 is about emotions, and that's where I found the biggest difference between me (INTJ) and them. I FEEL every emotion I have, although I don't always understand what I'm feeling and why. The only time when I feel like "an observer" is when I start crying. It feels odd and seems like it's not ME crying, but someone else, and I have to fix it. Weird.

I feel my emotions wether I want to or not, but it is like I'm watching myself. I can c when I'm mad and making a mistake becuz of it. It's like my emotions are like something else that I see swaying my judgment and so I try to control it or make space for it away from ppl. ( so I think we pretty much same)? -istp

I would expect the difficulty for an IXTJ would be in emotional expression (Fe blind spot / trickster / whatever) - not necessarily feeling the emotion internally (Fi). So it kinda makes sense that the crying (Fe expression) is when things get weird for you.

For me I guess I managed to get in touch with my emotions a lot more over the years as I've gotten better at analyzing it. I remember often feeling numb or detached about situations, like when my grandparents died I tried to squeeze out a tear just to show respect but I really felt nothing deep inside. But I thought that was somewhat...inhuman, even though we weren't particularly close with them but still, so I started paying attention to or thinking why I wasn't feeling what other people were feeling. What I realized was when I imagine terrible things happening to my parents, I easily get upset, and that was the first step for me to becoming more empathetic and emotional. For the longest time I wouldn't face my feelings too, but every time I let those emotions out by crying on my own, even when I didn't truly understand them, it made me feel better, so I learned it's ok and sometimes good to be vulnerable and true to yourself. So now when I'm feeling bad I analyze what I'm feeling and why that's happening, and what can be done to deal with it - normally I just result to crying. There's a side effect to that though, cuz now crying comes so easily to me I can't control my tears anymore, and now I'm a crybaby LOL!

true about feeling emotions in 3rd person. I have the impression that my emotions are something apart of me, and that it would be easier to understand what I feel if I could transmute these emotions in an object that I could hold in my hands and see or touch. When I feel bad emotions I just go completely silent and stay on my own, and when I feel strong good emotions I still keep the poker face that gives me so many problems, cuz other people think I'm unsatisfied.

I've been a robot all of my life, didn't care, didn't feel, did my own thing. I've had a daughter now and these feelings keep coming and pestering me. I've no idea what to do with them, it's overwhelming. Silence is also something I don't get too often anymore and I realise why I REALLY appreciate having a shower or going to the bathroom these days 😂 Recently we had to stay with family while we were in between places and it was a living nightmare. There was always people around, nowhere to retreat. Nowhere to make a phonecall in private. Even going to the bathroom, they're banging on the door "are you finished yet?!" God damn, "when you hear the toilet flush, I'm finished." 🙄 When I watch your vids, I get a good idea on why I do the weird stuff I do.

We can learn how to be more comfortable with emotions. It is still something I struggle with. But a lot of people think I’m an ISFP because I am able to get in touch with my feelings so well. Especially online, because when I write, it’s easier to feel them. I don’t want to be in Ti/Se because I don’t feel accepted. And i definitely can’t succeed at being in a romantic relationship that way because the man feel’s emasculated. I’m working on that now… trying to stay in my femininity. It’s really really hard.

I'm glad you wrote this comment. I have been balling back and forth between ISTP and ISFP (also INFJ) because I do have emotions, but I don't quite understand them or know how to "get rid of them". Like it's a puzzle I need to fix. Yet all the other points of the ISTP profile fits me rather well, which is why I've been in between these types. It's nice to know that it's possible to learn how to be in touch with ones feelings as an ISTP. For me, as well, writing is the best way to express my feelings.

Something I'm reading now in Jung's 'Psychological Types', about Introverted Sensing types is so far out there! He says something like- Subjective sensing of objective objects is indirect, with a "Patina" placed over the objects. And that the perceptions of the objects is influenced by the Collective Unconscious. Meyers and Briggs clearly didn't wade into those waters.

I think the discomfort with silence probably depends on being assertive or turbulent. I am very comfortable with agreed upon silence - in fact I really enjoy it, especially if we're walking or traveling in some way! But I'd guess if an ISTP was raised with traditional etiquette or maybe evangelical extra friendliness, they'd feel like causing awkwardness for someone else was socially wrong or selfish, and probably blame themselves for it. Horrible and regrettable situations always seem to come from trying to fix it, in my case though. Fixing it isn't what I'd like to be responsible for, and I always seem to be someone totally different in the process - usually less thoughtful and more sloppy with my opinions.

My biggest challenge with ISTP's is they don't readily offer any ideas or potential solutions. They do seem easily convinced not to do a thing, or take an action; they do often issue raise and present problems and causes very clearly and intelligibly - but when it's time to remedy an issue they often just offer more "observations" (criticisms), without using any imagination to propose solutions.

(ISTP) Feelings emerge as uncomfortable sensations that need to be figured out. Now, I am way more aware of how I feel about something because I recognize feelings faster because I’ve dealt with them before. I am not afraid of them.🌷
@eyenkim8939
@eyenkim8939 8 месяцев назад
I think rather than having Ne as a blindspot, lower Te in the stack is what causing the problem more, Ne is till a perceiving function which is used to collect data rather than providing solution. You need to come to a decisive point to be able to provide one which what Te is than Ne. Thats why you will more likely get suggestions from xxTPs and xxFJs type but solutions from xxTJs and xxFPs.

I think there's a lot to like about the ISTP personality (INTJ). It's strange to compare with them because we seem so similar at face value yet very different when you scratch the surface. For the biggest differences: I find my brother in law gets distracted from the target too easily, but he isn't fond of my 'intensity' lol Our interactions are pretty quiet (and strangely unawkward) and I admit, I'm forever trying to come up what he's thinking about without having to ask (haha) but we always end up agreeing in the end. I'd like to be more 'hands on' like him.

I’m emotional too. I used to think I was bipolar or had BPD cause the emotions swing side to side, I think this was because of childhood trauma. I’ve heard a few other female ISTPs experience this too. Have you learned about Enneagram? I’m a 469. Maybe you are similar?
