Very helpful, thanks, I have a project I'm making that reports when my boat engine temperature gets low via text, and this shield and tutorial made it work!! One thing to keep in mind, you gave your exact house location...
First I have to say that I greatly appreciate all the work you have put into the project. I am having trouble connecting to the network. I am able to unlock the SIM card but after ca a minute of trying to connect indicated by ( AT+CREG? ) and (--->AT+CSQ ) get no response. Turning on the cellular data also does not work. So here my setup and thus possible causes: - Arduino UNO connected to PC - SIM7000G version mounted as a shield and connected via usb - no LiPo battery - no hologram SIM but a different one (I have adjusted the apn settings as shown in the video) I am grateful for all the help I can get :)
Hi, please email me for product support questions. Looks like not having a LiPo battery is the problem and is causing your module to shut off and therefore it doesn't respond to commands after that.
Timothy - just bought your shield and get to 4:30, but I'm receiving "couldn't find FONA". 3700maH Lipo is plugged in. Antenna/GPS are correct (crossed). Power is solid green, NET is blinking. hologram SIM is "ready". Using "LTE_Demo" from your most recent patch 1.10. Let me know what you think!
Hi Timothy, i run this code, it shows the message "Time out: no response to AT... last ditch attempt" and "Counld't find modem". What is the problem and how can i fix this? Thank you.
It really depends. Please see the answer here: www.amazon.com/ask/questions/Tx1T29TXF98YLO7/ref=ask_ql_ql_al_hza You can also read more about the current consumption of the shield here: github.com/botletics/SIM7000-LTE-Shield/wiki/Current-Consumption
Hi Timothy, If I am looking for a few sample code for SIM7100E in FTP and HTTP without any library and just using Serial port, where can I find it? any googling doesn't help so far. I'm not using FONA board.
hi timothy i read you instructables on BLE with ESP32 it was really a great tutorial. i am a beginner in programming and i am unable you find a way to send values of multiple analog pins to my phone using BLE on esp32 can you help me with the code
Hi, thanks for the comment! Could you please post a reply on the Instructables so that people can read the comments there instead? I will follow up with you there. Thanks!
Hi @Timothy, I am using SIM7000G shield, Lithium 3.7 battery (couldn’t get LiPo). Green LED is ON, NET blinks. Getting Couldn’t find FONA. Can you please help
Hi, im using sim7100e module &test at cammand When im executing "at+cgpsinfo=100" the module return "+cgpsinfo:,,,,,,,,,," I use passive antenna plz help me🙏
hey Timothy, I need you to answer some questions please. I recently bought one of your modules. my first question is if I can run the a code using ftp with your module or not. (I have noticed you are using fona libraries).
Please see this example sketch: github.com/botletics/SIM7000-LTE-Shield/tree/master/Code/examples/FTP_Demo Keep in mind this is not the default Adafruit FONA library
Hello Timothy :) With a hologram.io simcard my SIM7000E just connects on 2G but not on LTE-M or NB-IoT. Do you know how to enforce the LTE-M with AT commands ? (the carriers in ly country had deployed LTE-M few years ago) Thanks :)
Hologram may not support LTE CAT-M or NB-IoT in your country (you should check with them). You can force LTE CAT-M or NB-IoT operation with the command AT+CNMP and AT+CMNB
Hi timothy, I was trying the sim7000e module for sending SMS but the function checkSIMstatus throws an error message. I'm from Spain and I'm using the SIM card from my telephone (Movistar is my ISP), what the issue could be? Thanks.
Most likely you can't use your phone's SIM card because it is for traditional LTE. The SIM7000 requires LTE CAT-M1 or NB-IoT so you need to make sure your SIM card supports that.
Thanks for quick reply. what si the latest code tested? I downloaded the codes from the link and having error message when i complied. 'Adafruit_FONA_LTE' does not name a type; did you mean 'Adafruit_FONA_3G'? I use bot the LTE demo and SIM7XXX_LTE Demo. The video uses an old file. I understand things change but can you verified a working file from the link in the video.
Sounds like you have Adafruit's FONA library installed, which you need to remove. Please see this wiki page which describes how to get everything up and running: github.com/botletics/SIM7000-LTE-Shield/wiki/Arduino-IDE-Setup
Hi Timothy, I have a question Does Hologram SIM Card work in Singapore? Because I'm using SIM7000C shield to try out on the network but I'm having trouble connecting to the network. --> AT+CREG?
@@botletics Thank you for your quick response. I have trouble getting LTE CAT-M or NB-IoT in Singapore, therefore my second option is to change my shield into SIM5320E so that I can get my network connected with 3G?
Hi Timothy. Just a question: when you upload your code, your blue led ( network ) start to flashing? , I have that secuence just one time and never again. Thanks for your help.

question this shield able to do voice? looking at doing something for a car type radio. I've seen other type projects but you have to use many different shields as where this one has many functions all together. Also looking at using the new rock64 due to many extra features that pi and others don't have.
Hi there! Unfortunately I didn't have room on it to put voice functionalities on there but I'm planning on making a full, integrated development board with the microcontroller on-board as well as voice support and LiPo battery charging. However, I'm willing to take suggestions on making it a separate module with voice support but not with the microcontroller as it seems some people (like yourself) might be using the Pi or other hardware.
Right, with the rock64 and this shield was looking to being able to do voice calls and sms, Would that be able to work or does it need more to make it able to make voice calls?
Well sorry, unfortunately you won't be able to do voice with this shield but you can do SMS. However, if you wanted to "hack" the shied and add voice to it, be my guest! You would have to solder a few wires to the module itself, but luckily it uses castellated edges so it shouldn't be hard if you know what you're doing.
Ok keep up the work so far there isn't many 4g shields out there right now. Voice support I would do a separate module that way for people that just want the sms message.
Thanks for the input! I'll definitely keep that in mind. I'll also try to remember to keep you posted about a new dev board with audio support when I get around to it!
@@phanpeace2757 By "TI" do you mean a Texas Instruments platform like the TI Launchpad? You can connect it to just about anything that supports hardware serial or software serial communication since the SIM7000 module communicates over UART (TX/RX).
Yes, I believe this is very possible with FTP commands but I haven't tested that yet. That's on my task list. Maybe I can make a tutorial with ArduCAM. :)
Hi Timothy, Thanks for the videos. I am new to Arduino. How can I input at commands to sim 7000c?. when I try the way I know it replies "sim 7000 does not know . read entries. . thanks
Hi! It seems like the SIM7000C will work in Sri Lanka according this tutorial (github.com/botletics/SIM7000-LTE-Shield/wiki/Board-Versions) but as a disclaimer I cannot guarantee operation in any country as I haven't tested it there. Normally you can find the shield on my website (www.botletics.com/products/sim7000-shield) but I'm out of stock. However, I'm launching an Indiegogo campaign in a couple days where you can pre-order the next version: www.indiegogo.com/projects/open-source-nb-iot-shield-for-arduino/coming_soon
@@window.location Any module that communicates over UART could be compatible with Arduino but the particular Arduino library I've been working on does not explicitly support SIM7100. Hope that makes sense.
hi, first of all thank you a lot for all your explanation, could you please provide us a code for phone call as well for sim7000g i am able to send and receive sms but i don't know how to make a phone call please help if you have any idea i will be appreciate, thank you
