Thank you for your videos! I just made the career move to a nonprofit, and have been asked to reorganize the organization for success! Your tips are awesome :)
This video came to me in perfect timing! I applied to volunteer for my city's art club and after my second interview this week they asked me to be on there board. They want to vote me in mid March!! It's exciting and I said yes!! This is exactly what I can use to help organize myself. 😁 Funny the board's meeting Agenda is one of the responsibilities I agreed to do. Going apply your tips to on board myself thanks for sharing your knowledge Amber!
I am interested in more information on identifying and communicating the organization's mission/purpose. The other vids on this topic provided on this channel have been helpful.
What are your questions? :) I have a video on crafting a great mission statement - not sure if you saw that one yet: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FK1LnEymy9c.html
@@AmberMelanieSmith Yeah, that video is quite informative. I just wish the mgmt at my org were better at communicating their vision/mission, and because I don't understand the goals, I am not as engaged as I'd like. Maybe I'll view a few more vids of yours and feel better, I don't know.
Thank you for your videos. They are informative. Whats your opinion of having Advisory board/governing board. How can one manage both effectively as growing organisation. Let me know if you have done a video on that.
Well a Governing Board is a type of regular Board, usually one focused on high level strategy / governance / fundraising (vs helping with operations or programs work, which is more like Working Boards when a nonprofit has few to no staff). If your organization is ready for a Governing Board, go for it! As for Advisory Boards, when managed and structured effectively they can increase your organization's reach.
I would first ask about your nonprofit board recruitment process and what expectations are set for new board applicants - hours per month, expectation of how they'll fundraise, etc.!
For a nonprofit in the startup phase, and working to get off the ground - how much time per week/month is practical to expect of board members in the expectations agreement? I have board members who never answer emails for two or three weeks and when I remind them via text, they always say they never had a chance because they were busy, or that they never saw it all that time.
Hi! That can really vary by mission - when I first started out it was a few hours / week for board members. We asked up front for a 15 hour per month commitment between meetings and in-between work.
Hi... I have a question, do I need to appoint Board of Directors? Is there another legal way to file for a non-profit without having a board? *God* bless.
Hi there! Yes, nonprofits must have boards: smallbusiness.chron.com/nonprofit-organizations-boards-76872.html - If you prefer to start an organization that you are in 100% complete control of you might consider forming a private business instead.
