Boot knives work better with cowboy or cowboy-inspired motorcycle boots. Boot cut jeans or jeans with a modified outerseam. Boot specific sheaths help too... I think boot carry was one of the options for the Bud Nealy Multi-Carry System (MCS) II.
I find Scout carry to be the most versatile, can grab it easily normal- or reverse grip, doesn't dangle about etc. As for putting it back: you get the muscle memory for that pretty quickly.
Do you feel there is a risk with this choice? Specifically, behind the back placement for handgun carry, while it looks cool, creates a risk of spine injury if the carrier falls backwards onto the firearm and holster. …although a knife would usually not be as thick as a handgun.
@@TrilobitesRTasty I don't find much risk with the scout setup. I haven't fallen directly on my back since I was 10 roughhousing on the jungle gym. Any rocks or roots are going to be more painful to fall on. My usual outdoors setup is pistol on the right. Knife behind the back sitting just under my backpack, but easily reachable. Reloads on the left. Everything is easily reachable, and I if I set my backpack down, I dont have to leave my knife behind or transfer it like I would with a backpack strap carry.
@@felixsamurai4592knives are used like 98% of the time for things other than stabbing people I hope you know that been carrying my knife for about 10 years and never stabbed anyone yet I use it every day
Scout carry is great But always be careful of putting gear inline with your spine If you fall on you back it becomes a fulcrum that can hurt your back People have been paralyzed by flashlights
Should always be careful with scout carry, especially firearms at 6oclock position. LEOs stopped carrying there because a fall or tackle and landing on the base of the back can leave you paralyzed., I just heard this recently, if it’s common knowledge my bad. I was bummed out to hear it because I really used to like scout carry.,;( Keep up the great vids n info! 🔪 🇺🇸👍
My thoughts exactly. Which is why I stopped using scout carry despite it's pros. Couldn't risk slipping on a dumb rock and falling on my ass only to cause more DMG because of a knife
It's also a huge deal with swords when falling off a horse, or soldiers getting a shoulder throw and landing on their rifle... The fall without the weapon has a FAR better prognosis... BTW: during the Prager Fenstersturz, several guys got defenestrated and one landed on his sword causing the crossguard to penetrate his belly! He survived and since all of them survived, it was ruled a miracle by the church.
as a diver I also carry them at my bicep with straps when hunting and at my calf every dive as my back up when getting tangled in kelp forest .... I was called "frankie 5 knives" for a reason cuz here in cali the kelp is thick.Nice to see you back !
"Scout" carry should be used with caution. Nothing like falling backwards and the object at the small of your back damages the lower part of your spine. Would recommend offsetting it to one side like "7 oclock' for left hand or "5 oclock" for right hand, but not dead center of your spine.
although its cool and pretty useful i wouldn't recommend the backpack one. if you get into a combat situation and they turn it into a grappling situation, if that knife is still in the holster they can easily grab it and stab you with it. now i know this situation sounds specific but a grappling situation is pretty common in life or death combat scenario. but just keep in mind that this is just my opinion and preferences tho.
For inside waistband I can personally recommend and Ulti-Clip of your liking! 🥰 (Also works great to clip it anywhere else on clothing or a bag, even a belt works to clip it to!)
@@jotasenator Hopefully so. I usually have two blades on long outings, but then again anything addes is also added weight. Two knifes make sense (good weight), but more knife on top of that is just bad weight. Some carrying variations shown here I feel may fit better for on site camp life, less so when you are off the beaten path, meaning far outside your camp or farm. Even less prefarable for survival situations in the wild as you can expect to be in bad condition, tired, injuried or stressed out. Adding extra risk for injury (or lost knife) does not make sense inmo. In my experience, some works less good when being in a open deck canoe for example and does not work at all in a kayak (closed deck). You may need to use a knife to cut a line or net trapping your canoe. Some does not work well if having a large back pack, perhaps with sack or roll under the backpack, low on your back.
@@ghanaboyz agree with you, when i used to go into the wild I used a machete on my back and a knife on my pants, but walking on the same area doing topography , and leaving the backpack in a fixed spot and taking the knife from there. So i didn t considered the extra weight okok. the machete for making my way through and add visibility and the knife for other tasks, and just one day
Well that's why I've got a knife that stays exclusively on my pack, so I'm still carrying my EDC on top of it when I'm backpacking. You can never have too many blades in the woods lol
Absolutely refreshing to have someone dedicated to “Blades” not just one make or model strait to the point (no pun intended) just blades and outdoors - it does help that you’re all the Way Michigan 🙌🏼💯🙌🏼💯
@@drewbonesfb pretty much every mounting of a knife, except a pocket knife, could be used against you. I don’t see why scout is somehow the most egregious, in fact I’d say it’s harder for most attackers to get to it than a carry more to the front. Unless you mean someone from behind, and even in that case they probably already have a knife too, and already have the advantage.
For larger fixed blades, I have found I really like strong side horizontal carry, more than across the waist. It puts it a little more convenient for quick access, but has the downside of making it harder to get into your front pocket if you carry your phone, wallet, or keys there.
The problem with the knife up position is that if you are compromised pulling your knife out points it directly at you, essentially giving it to the attacker.
Do you use it when having a backpack? Or sitting down in a canoe? How good control do you have without visual and with less natural way to do regular control by touch? What about your spine if you wall backwards and get all weight on the knife/scabbard? If used very regulary and in harsh conditions, dont you think you weill actually increase the risk of either cutting yourself in the back and/or dropping the knife? Yeah, it LOOKS cool and warrior like. but.
@@ghanaboyz ....Okay from the top. If you're properly wearing a pack i.e having synched from the shoulders it's not an issue. Three tours in Afghanistan taught me that. As for the rest it all depends on the exact style of knife and scabbard combination. Which also applies to every other carry position. Sure if you're one of those people who insist on carrying a sword length knife it'll be in the way in the scout carry position. But an actual proper knife of an actually reasonable length and size isn't a hazard in that position
@@clintonjohnson3852 well I did my degree in Eng with Phil in the 80s (when a degree meant something and didnt get handed out like sweets from a pedo) specialising in metaphysics and did my dissertation in A series B series tenseless time. Nah, use ur fist, and if you get shot by a gun toting puss, then, at least you're dead and no longer have to deal with gen Z ... If you wanna have an arsenal to defend your home then go for it.. but guns don't cut rope (easily) guns don't sharpen sticks, filet meat, no reloading, unlimited usage.. and if it's for a fight, as I said use your damn fists.. bear comes at you, use your fists, attacked by a swam of bees - use your fists, grizzly Adams comes out of the woodwork - use your fists, attacked by a hammerhead - well what do you think? - use your damn fists..
