I love how the thumbnail implies that even after capturing the King, the Queen still continues her murderous rampage until there are no survivors

#1 way to use your King - Psychological warfare. Play Ke2 move 2. #2 - Finding stalemate. #3 - Knowing when to castle. #4 - Activate your King in endgames. #5 - Safe vs dangerous squares for your King. #6 - King can help attack/defend. #7 - Opposition. #8 - Hammering the point home that King defence comes above all else.

Really enjoying these series about using the pieces. One comment I have about the position at 14:38 where you can sacrifice the rook is that it in that particular example it doesn't lead to checkmate if you move your rook to E8 for instance instead of accepting the sacrifice. It's a great example though because many players will not see the unavoidable mate. Thanks a lot!

Please do a video on finding the most instructive squares / making your pieces most active. Magnus Carlsens said this is the number 1 principle he uses when playing and helps to guide one when deciding when to break general principles
@zyrith9475
@zyrith9475 2 года назад
I would like to see this, too. It was kind of what I was expecting from this video, how to know where to place the queen for most activity, rather than tactical ideas.
@zyrith9475
@zyrith9475 2 года назад
It is also interesting to think of the game holistically, this is a pattern I noticed many years ago, and applies to more than chess. In chess this would mean always improving your structure and slowly building up advantage in a mathematical sense. You might have a piece hanging, but if your evaluation score is higher and you play accordingly, you are eventually going to win. Essentially, activity is what evaluates score advantage unless there is mate in a couple of moves or incoordination of pieces.

For the safe squares segment, would queen to B3 not be safe since black can play d6 and threaten the bishop to e6 on their next move to attack the queen

1. e4 e5 2. Qh5 is a pretty legit opening regardless of rating. Nakamura used it quite a bit and there are some indepth opening videos about it from IM Perunovic on yt. Definitely not something to underestimate.
