Hey friends! I just wanted to say that I really appreciate all your support over the years and you being so cool with me shamelessly plugging my RU-vid course from time to time. I hate selling things but it’s one of the ways I’ve been able to monetize my videos, while also helping teach all the things I’ve learned about filmmaking & RU-vid. If you’re interested in joining this cohort that would be really cool but as always there is absolutely no pressure to join. Watching my videos is enough :)

For the shoes causing dirt, I would suggest a silicon mat usually used to avoid that dogs splash water onto the floor. They even have slighly higher edges and you don't have issues with wet shoes or dirt.

Already joined your course (along with the habit building course, which I’ve found extremely useful)! I haven’t been able to put the YT course to good use yet (life got in the way). But expecting to make use of it soon. We totally understand you’re busy with the little one (enjoy his childhood while it lasts!). Matt, my man, you’ve already added so much value to my life over the years, just like you have for hundreds of thousands like me. No shame in plugging for your course, which, I’m sure provides so much value for the customer. Thank you so much for doing what you do. 😊❤

Now that you have a baby, you should do a video on how to be a minimalist/organized as a new parent. The amount of stuff, toys etc (often, which is gifted to us) is insane!

One of the challenges is that the items one person swears by could be another’s unused items. My advice would be to buy only the most basic items to start and then only buy other items as needed.
@nerdmommy7114
@nerdmommy7114 7 месяцев назад
The advice for that is… eff it. It’s okay to be disorganized, these are just stuff. Example, knowing the kid will spill food on the carpet. But that’s the kid learning to independently feed themselves. And that’s more valuable than an organized home.
@fcallo
@fcallo 7 месяцев назад
In my case, my baby gets gifts that are either useless or not aligned with the type of parenting we've set, so we sell them all and buy the stuff she really needs which normally is expensive. So if we sell 3 to 4 items, we can only afford one important thing with that money. So far is great, she has the things she really needs and uses and our home is uncluttered.

A trick I learned for under-the-sink organization is to buy some small cardboard boxes at a local retailer or reuse boxes from any recent purchases. Then, compartmentalize the items according to your preferred categories. Helps reduce the use plastic and is a very cheap alternative.
@mattdavella
@mattdavella 7 месяцев назад
That's a great idea! Love that it's plastic-free.
@elizabethrufener7280
@elizabethrufener7280 7 месяцев назад
Same could be done with the shoes. Cardboard boxes easily slide out so items don’t get pushed to the back of a shelf. I used to cover my boxes in contact paper or gift wrap.

The conclusion point is great. It sounds like a teaser for Essentialism. Because the way I see it, Minimalism is how we do things, and Essentialism is why we do them. Living with less and getting the right things done can lead to powerful transformations for people. And with so many distractions in the world, it can feel liberating to get clear and create from the heart.

My wife and I lived in a one bedroom condo and the under bed organization was a game changer. We needed a new bed frame anyway and decided to get a taller one with about 18" underneath. We have a bunch of those cloth/canvas zip storage things underneath where we store all our winter gear, extra shoes, extra blankets and pillows. Just tons of stuff that we didn't really have anywhere to put.
@mattdavella

Absolutely. We intentionally got a bed with space underneath as well. It makes such a big difference.

ha, we have a USB charger finders keeper policy in our house, that's how we manage our cables. Wait until your kid turns 5 and you have a 2nd one who is 3. I love watching your videos as I transition from online reseller (or storage unit home) with a bedroom soo full of stock it covered the windows to the ceiling and it was a maze to get through without stepping on something worth $$$. Now after selling all my stock, I’m out of the reselling game and my bedroom now consists of a beautiful custom made bed frame with extended headboard and matching floor length mirror all made from recycled hardwood, a floor lamp, a tray table from ikea as a bedside table (until i find exactly the one that meets all my needs). I also realised if I remove the window coverings completely I can watch the night sky from my bed and last night had the pleasure of being able to watch a summer thunder storm with lightning show from under the covers. It really is the simple pleasures in life that give you the most enjoyment.
