Once again, deeply thankful to Coffee Chess for the fun games!
I want everyone here to know that GM Hikaru only planned to play a few games but he was gracious enough to stay a LOT LONGER to play WAY MORE people! He was very cordial, signed chessboards, answered questions from the people - TOTAL CLASS! Thank you again so much for coming!!! We truly appreciate it!!! GM Hikaru did comment in one of the other videos on his channel that he's coming back so you'll see more games with NEW players from The Coffee Chess Crew! Thank you again for coming! What a legend!! We look forward to your return!!!
Great week of videos over the two channels . A big well done , the most fun chess vids online . I hope to see a banter rematch with Boston Mike sometime soon . The vid views on that one really hit it out of the park . THANKS GM!
I was playing a local tournament once and got matched up against the most serious looking guy wearing a suit. But I won and was full of confidence. Next game was against a guy wearing a shirt with a large picture of an ostrich on it. He looked way too relaxed, that's when I knew I was in trouble. Lost badly.
I know what you’re saying but I’m js this for the hell of it. Even though you already know this. Never judge by the cover. The dude in the suit was compensating or just being official even though he’s not good. Dude in the shirt is too comfortable with it and doesn’t care what he wears. And judging on the fact that he’s wearing a graphic tee means he’s smart lol. Nerds wear graphic tees. Look how zuckerburg dresses in public
This is so wholesome. I love it when the kid messed up and Hikaru stopped to the time and let him move again just so the kid could learn from one of the greats. We will be seeing more of him in the future i know it
In that position i think he was just stressed by time and didn’t think anymore, he just saw that he lost a knight but didn’t think he could just stop there or in the best scenario just trade the advantage back. He played an incredible gane until that point
I initially didn't like Hikaru for some reason, but watching him play with strangers over the years, and clips from his stream, I now find him to be one of the most down to earth GMs out there. For someone competing in tier 1 chess, it seems like a rare and admirable quality. GG
hikaru has had a bad track record for his behavior before he blew up streaming/on youtube. lots of gm's didnt like him for this reason. i used to watch hikaru before he blew up years ago, and yes, he was pretty toxic. i personally dont care though because im toxic too lmao. hes calmed down a lot since probably for marketing reasons
@@Jason-mz8xw He's a prodigy. A few more years and he may play Hikaru on the big stage. Still, the crowd should've let the kid focus. Kids are easily distracted and the pressure doesn't help, like you said
Hikaru is not bullying, he's just passing on the tradition. In 30 years this child will bully prodigies and then the cycle begins ones more. I'm just kidding ;)
Way to go Golani Salami! You repped the Coffee Chess Crew well! We're so proud of you! We'll help you analyze your game when you come over today! Thank you so much for playing him GM Hikaru! It will be a memory he will never forget! Also, we have a tradition over at Coffee Chess where if the fans enjoyed a player's game, they can get them coffee and we put their link in the description but since this is being shown over here, and because links are not allowed in comments to prevent spam, I was hoping the editor can take the coffee link for Golan from Coffee Chess and put it in the video description here. But if he doesn't see this, any game with Golani Salami in Coffee Chess will have the link there if you would like to get him hot chocolate (he's too young for coffee). Perhaps Golani Salami will be the future Hikaru Nakamura! Thank you!
Congratulations Golani. An excellent effort and thank you GM Hikaru for being a brilliant support. We are loyal Coffee Chess fans and have really enjoyed this series. 👍🏼😀
@@edenschannel101 With less than a second left on his clock, the boy knew he lost. He made an illegal move as a joke to "win" the game and make everyone laugh.
I don't know about y'all, but Hikaru stopping Salami's clock at 6:33 to help him make a better move at his expense is the most wholesome thing I've seen in a while
Hikaru made a lot of neutral trades making sure neither player got an advantage forcing both of them (mostly just the kid) to play on a fundamental level since developments were hard to find.
Good job Grand Master Hikaru, this game will live on with this kid for a long time. I appreciate the fact that you didn't let him win but challenged him to try hard. Im sure he's learned a few valuable lessons and earned the bragging rights of making it to the end game with one of the world's best. This video made me smile!
The circles just indicate who is speaking the quote in the thumbnail ... Coffee Chess titles are more ridiculous than the thumbnails, IMO. Sometimes he puts emojis in the thumbnails but other than that it's just a screenshot from the video, a highlight quote from the video in big red letters, and a red circle around the face of whoever is saying the quote. The titles on the other hand are always like "REAL NETFLIX BETH HARMON IN REAL LIFE!!!"
@@fennecbesixdouze1794 honestly, i tried watching them in 2018, but i could never because i find the trash talkers annoying after a while and they seem pretty cultish lol
This is why I love this man. Coaching while playing. Always brings a smile to my face and happiness to my heart when people helps promote the game to the youth.
Yes this kid is another young talented kid in the game of chess and so we dont know how good he can become in the future, when he is already as 9 year old so good, while im older and not even close to the level of playing chess his playing on.
"Dude, the fact you played the kid. Had the patience, taught him in the process and granted him the respect he deserves, talks big. Well done man" Roughly.
@@gioclarkson3387 "Dude, the fact that you played the kid, had patience while doing so, taught him in the process, and granted him the respect he deserves says a lot about who you are as a person. Well done, man."
2:29 imagine you are 9 year old boy who is playing chess with one of the best players in the world, you make move and he just starts hysterically laughing. Oh god.
Compared to what I have seen in the past and his reputation Hikaru should be commended for this. I know he has taken over his own social media and streaming since some recent controversy. Bravo
I think part of it might be the feeling that “I have spent my entire life working to become the best chess player that I can possibly be, and I will not lose to a child” I’m generally pretty nice to people, but for some reason when I play magic against anyone younger than 16 I get extraordinarily frustrated on the inside when they’re tough opponents. That being said, I’m also always madly impressed and congratulate them wether they beat me or not
@@angelmarques3124 The only thing illegal is he moved his king 2 squares. Of course, it's only illegal if your opponent calls it, otherwise, play goes on. So you could move a king into check if your opponent allows it, and you can also have king take king. Coffee chess blitz games have included missed checkmates, a knight that moved diagonally, and a pawn that was added back onto the board on the seventh rank, all apparently by accident during the final seconds. Pretty hilarious if you aren't playing. Bottom line, always watch the board! And if you play, be very exact in moving pieces.
Maybe he can use that name to attract the ladies when he's older 😆😉. "Hey madam. Want to hear the story about how my great great grandfather got the name Salami?" 🤣🤣🤣
When you are a child prodigy in chess and you kept your sense of humor. Such a great combination. When the adults say, "You are doing better than anybody here today." This line has a sincerity to it. I think it was Brooklyn Dave. Way to cheer a promising child.
Did you guys observed that Hikaru’s editor has such a big heart ..look at the analysis boards he showed that move “ king killing king” and white king disappeared as if hikaru lost. Hats off to the editor.
That's very untrue. A person who's capable of being a super gm should be a bad loser. Magnus Carlsen and many other gm are bad losers, because they want to improve after EVERY games.
@@adeshkantha7034 true, not a necessary one but very common. There are just certain personality traits which make it easier to get to the top of any profession (i.e. politicians are almost always narcissists)
its the hardest part about being in the same "room" as spectators.... personally i hate it in any game. my friend once said the player sees everything the spectator sees the only thing they add is more clutter to the mind.
I know who the nine year old prodigy is because he used to go to the same club as I did. He's my good old friend Golan and I love seeing him at such high heights.
@@wsemenske because Salami was low on time... it is easy to play fast when you are learning theory more years than your opponent is living :D (and this was fun event. I respect Hikaru for playing with the chess crew to help them grow)
@GMHikaru 03:49 "It is only one problem", that was brutal for the kid. After this he only thinks about the 'problem' that he can't see and the SuperGM sees.
@@Samuelchallenge the backward pawn on d6 was a glaring weakness and with the bishop pair it was obvious even for me. I believe a bf8 move wouldve been better for the kid than kf8 but hell he's 9 and im 26. He can prolly beat me in a few years in a 5-5 game
Great kid, lovely crowd. Kudos to Hikaru for his contributions to the chess world, happenings like this means so much and is in fact beyond chess, lovely to watch and hear all the laughter
Golani Salami. That's a name to remember. I like the fact that he wasn't just playing the board, but he was also gauging Hikaru's reactions and looking at where Hikaru's eyes were going on the board to see where he should devote his attention. Next new record for youngest GM incoming???
It was so heartwarming to see Hikaru let Golani take back the move and block with the rook :) Goes to show Hikaru doesn't just wanna bully him but rather have a nice, instructing game!
You can see Hikaru really slowed down hitting his clock towards the end to allow the kid a little more time. He wasn't trying to actively clock him but give him as much time in the endgame as possible.
You know, I'm a seriously terrible chess player --- I'm probably around 1200 --- but it is interesting to see the various commentaries about chess games ... but I have to say, the most fun is the delight and joy and whimsical pranksterism, and even generosity, that Nakamura brings to the game. GMH didn't have to sac his king in that game, but it was by far the most delightful outcome possible. Everybody there had a fabulous time, and that ought to matter. Thanks GMH.
Thanks for taking the time to come out and represent the game of chess. You’re a true ambassador of the game. More GM’s should come out to regular parks to play and mingle with the every day common player. Plus, it can only help increase your fan base and by doing so, increase your RU-vid subscriber base. More money in monetizing your RU-vid channel than actually winning tournaments.
This video is absolutely incredible. Not every World caliber player would give a kid a chance because of some nonsense like "I don't play for free" or some BS like that. I love this gives Golani experience to help him learn things like What to do when you don't know what to do. I also loved the crowd "Look, I'm Using the biggest words I got." Nothing like seeing the Youngest Chess Master ever playing new prodigies to help teach and bring up the next generation. This is what RU-vid is supposed to be. Thank You Hikaru for sharing this : ).
1:34 I think there is a fascinating opportunity for White (out of black perspective) bringing the Knight to b4 and following that up by Bishop taking c2. The king is forced to move, preventing castling, as well as locking up the Rook and having 2 major threats in the heart of the enemies line
This was one of my favorite coffee chess spin offs I love how the coffee chess crew mentors and embraces the new generation to have a passion for chess really gives me hope for the next generation. Plus salami is a little beast in the making!
Hikaru is being nice. At 00:58, he can probably play Ng5 to win the f7 pawn, but chooses to play c3. I think Hikaru knows his opponent messed up the move order. You can tell as Hikaru gives a quick glance, looking to his young opponent. I think Hikaru wants the game to last longer. Hikaru is being nice.
