The music seems off pitch to me. Kids obviously a genius, but even with the lack of pitch their skill seems far-fetched for their age. Could be evidence suggesting reincarnation. Also, later in the video their pitch seems to improve, maybe they used a cheap low quality instrument at the beginning. Playing a violin ain't easy, never played a cello but it's probably difficult too.

This kid is pretty remarkable. I get the feel that people were looking for a prodigy and he isn't. He's average considering the age in which he started playing. However, he's very intelligent and is still developing. I think that we forget Yo-yo ma, Itzak Perlman, etc. were not prodigies either but showed alot of promise in music at a young age. This little boy exhibits the same. He will surely be a force when he's older and has had more experience.

It really bothers me when parents with a ton of money give their kids great opportunities like this and give them every chance in the world to be a great musician, athlete, or whatever and then everyone is absolutely enthralled by their progress. Yes, he’s great for his age, but he has multiple teachers, they probably cost a lot of money, etc. My family can barely afford to have me work with one teacher, and some people will never have the opportunity to learn an instrument.
@a33qyuy72
@a33qyuy72 5 лет назад
Exactly, most kids would be capable of the things this prodigies are doing if they had the exact set of circumstances. These parents moved to another country just for this kid, the mom has all the time in the world to drive him around to all this private training, and the Dad must have a job which provides him with the money to pay for this in expensive NYC. Most kids do not have that, no wonder they're not unreal musical prodigies. I don't have a problem with the kid doing something he likes, but why not just say that it's possible because he had the support from his family. There was nothing out of this world about him.
@grbacky
@grbacky 5 лет назад
Exactly. I’m twelve and I’ve been playing the cello for less than 3 months, and I can play a grade two piece (though I’m taking grade one in November)Which is an ok progress, considering the cello is an exceptionally difficult instrument. But, even if I, say, jump ahead three grades, ( which I won’t) no one will ever hear of me

I've been playing music for over 10 years. My dream has always been to play the cello but growing up poor in a poor school I only ever saw my first cello up close about 3 years ago in a music shop. Given my financial status and the opportunities that have been placed in front of me so far, I haven't had the opportunity to learn. One day maybe. But that day is not today.

He’s pretty good, and seems to really love it; a very advanced musician for his age. However, comparing him to Yo-Yo Ma is unfair to both Ma and the kid. Ma was a beyond a prodigy, a freak of nature in the best way. This kid is very good, but not a prodigy. True prodigies are extremely rare. However, I am not in any way bashing this kid. If he keeps working as hard as he has been, he has the potential to become amazing (also, if they’re gonna call him yo yo ma they shouldn’t have the first 10 seconds of the video him playing out of tune; I almost clicked out of the video then, but he ended up sounding much better near the end of the video)

To all the commenters who say this kid isn't good, there are a couple of things at play here. 1: He's nine. I'm a student at Juilliard, which is pretty good. But I'm much older than him. At nine years old? Are you kidding me? At nine, I had just destroyed my 2nd cello out of sheer anger and frustration. And also, because our society relates genius to precocity, when we see younger players play well, we exaggerate it in our minds and think they are exceptionally good. And he is still pretty good! 2: Personality. In today's world, you can't succeed just by skill. Because everyone is connected, everything you do can and will be used against you. So if you are a dick, then people will think negatively of you, even if you are a prodigy. Think about it: have you really seen a musician who is bitchy towards others? 3: His story is inspirational. On America's Got Talent, have you noticed that the Golden Buzzer receivers usually have some sort of sob story? This is the same: he met YYM once, then decided this was for him. It was a turning point in his life. 4: He's still pretty good. Doesn't matter what you think, this kid has potential. I'm scrolling through the comments, and half of them are all "this kid isn't that good." We humans are a warlike race and like to criticize other humans. If you think he's bad, then tell him how he can improve!
@raisinbrahms5872
@raisinbrahms5872 5 лет назад
I don't think very many people saying he's bad, I think people are just confused why he's being singled out as the best, when there are better out there. Don't get me wrong, I think he's insanely good, I know I didn't sound that good when I was nine, granted I play violin and I started at 7.

There are so many people in the comments talking about how this kid isn't the most astounding prodigy they've every seen. He might not be the next Mozart, but the fact that this kid was able to choose an instrument at the age of three and dedicate himself to it for 6 years until the age of 9 is very impressive. Most children younger than 10 don't even have anything that they're passionate about, let alone have the necessary focus and dedication to practice consistently. That alone is very unique.

Hey, guys? To everyone saying that there are people better than this talented and inspiring kid, of course there are. There is never truly a BEST in music! However, it is not only rude, but immature to push this aspiring musician down when he's so happy to be in the spotlight after all his hard work. To the more experienced musicians pushing this kid down, it is disheartening because he aspires to be like you. Just imagine being pushed down for not being "the best" by the ones you look up to- the video isn't focusing on whether he is the best or not, but on his journey and life of loving music! So grow up and don't push him down. Thanks. From a very salty FIFTEEN year old musician of ССМШ СПБ. Sad that even adults try to discourage this younger musician. Act your age.

Most people seem to be pretty respectful though, they acknowledge his ability, but say there are better people at his age, which is a pretty reasonable point considering how many videos of prodigies are there on youtube. Also, you dont have to play cello yourself to critizise another cellist. Its a really bad argument. Thats like having to produce your own blockbuster movie before critizising another hollywood movie. I have never picked up a cello in my life either, im an accordionist. That doesnt mean that whatever i say about this lad is completely irrelevant, most people going to concerts and buying CDs (aka people generating musicians' income) probably dont play an instrument either.

People aren't saying hes bad, people say there are better and the only reason he's noticed is because his parents want the world to know. I can bet there's probably some kid way better than him that is financially restricted or some other bs way society's system ruins great soon-to-be artists. Nobody seems to mention how his teachers are all probably paid somewhat decently. All I hear was things not related to his music, does "Want to make the world better" seem like something a prodigy would say? Literally every kid wants to make the world better lmao. If this kid was "UNREAL" I doubt he'd be so cocky. Btw, why are amazing people of younger generations "prodigies". Like, are you assuming everyone else is somehow less skilled in whatever they do just because they aren't as "good" compared to people above they're age?

Today I heard a 16 year old girl playing a childrens song for small children. And the toddlers loved it cause it was the best music for that place plus she did it sooooo unbelievable well it was perfect and you heard the music. I often hear 8-9 year old children performing technical perfect music with great dynamics and perfect pitch even with a trained smile on the face. Like little monkeys. If you open your ears you can hear the difference. It´s really a matter of do people have the feeling I want to get more of this? Or I cant stand this circus any more. One likes to hear this guy thats all one needs to know.

I think why people get upset commenting about this kid not being "that good" is because the video's title calls him a "musical prodigy" and when ppl click on it, they really want to see a musical prodigy. This boy is good, but falls short of what's suppose to be the benchmark for a "prodigy"...which is what 90% of the comments are on this thread. It's not the kid's fault, give him a break. Furthermore....this is a really crappy video. LOTS of talking and talking and very little playing music. I literally had to fast forward to actually hear him play, and even that was only bits and pieces. Bad video. Don't blame the kid. He's talented and we should wish him well, even though he is not what we were expecting to see based on the title.

I mean. He is good. But I've heard better for people at his age. To me he just seems and average. His technical abilities is average and his musicality his just meh. Idk. He's over hyped honestly. And just because you have perfect pitch doesn't make you a good player. Sure it helps but a person with relative pitch can do the same thing.

William DatKKid Mostly agreed, but I think we’d have many more kids like this if we started serious music earlier along with languages. It would’ve made a difference in my playing for sure

I agree. Perfect pitch doesn't help that much when it comes to a string instrument. You still have to achieve the muscle memory necessary to play in tune. Which is obvious in this video. He's good, but still out of tune sometimes

I would recommend finding a store in your area that rents out instruments. Rent one for a month and sign up for a few weeks worth of lessons. If you decide it’s not for you, your not out a whole lot of money, and you don’t have to try and sell an instrument.
