Inspiration!!! Meet Philip who is 90 years old and walks every day. He stays healthy by eating a vegetarian diet, walking, and going to church every week at the Seventh Day Adventist University Church. We can learn a thing or two from him! Thanks Philip!!! Keep it up!

My father was a big walker and also seventh day Adventist. He was amazing shape until 90 when he got skin cancer. He was such an inspiration and so my whole family are dedicated walkers. Walking is the fountain of youth.

Hope I'm still walking when I get to his age. A few years ago when competing in the British Indoor Rowing Championships I met a guy about 96 years old who was also taking part. He told me he wanted to keep going until he was 100!

Nice to see a video letting people know Seventh Day Adventists use a holistic choice of what they choose to eat, there's always a lunch after Service on Saturday morning, and it's always a great meal! Come one, come all!

This man reminds me of my late father because he walked nearly every day too an he lived to be 96 years young. Ironically, my dad was also a business and accounting major in college too, so maybe there is a link between long life and being a business and accounting major? :)

Less than one minute of video and he says two things that I've heard/read lots of times in interviews with elderly / long living human beings (besides being minimally active): 1 - being a vegetarian; 2 - Have just a couple of meals a day; Maybe a coincidence maybe not, but it makes us think about it...

Like a lot of people during COVID-19 lock down - I put on a little weight. Exerting myself like a sweaty pig just didn’t seem the right choice for me. So I downloaded a pedometer and set myself to walk at least 10,000 steps a day. On some days I did 20,000. In just a matter of weeks I dropped 15 pounds and I’m in the best shape I’ve been in over 20 years. As I dropped weight I’ve become a little more athletic and adding more things like yoga and mild cardio. Compound that with cutting down carbs and taking on a little bit of a keto diet (healthy fats) with some occasional intermittent fasting and I think I hit the right formula. This man is ahead of his time . 👍

Wow 😳 that’s great to hear. I’m on 10,000 to the occasional 15,000 a day. I don’t know how you did 20,000 !!? Any advice on hitting that number ?! How’s it going now for you ?
@Tyrell_Corp2019
@Tyrell_Corp2019 3 года назад
@@shizuokaBLUES - just keep doing it. After a while, 10,000 steps will really be nothing at all. I would recommend finding a pattern that works for you. If you’re in a remote area, 20,000 steps may seem far. But if you’re in an urban environment, it may be easier by setting yourself markers. Just keep track of yourself as you walk. I.G., If you know going to a certain location will give you 5000 steps, obviously the return will give you 5000 more. Try to do something similar with a higher number. Once you have certain locations you like to visit, it really becomes easier. I hope this helps. Good luck!

@@Tyrell_Corp2019 there is some very good advice here thanks. I like the idea of markers, such as walking along a river etc. I walked home from work yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I ended up putting in 18,000 steps and felt totally wiped (having also done a workout in my office). But I slept better and deeper than usual. I’m also doing I.F. and skipping breakfast (black coffee or iced green tea only) , working out with dumbbells, and yoga 2-3 times . Some low carb meals here and there too. I’m 53 and feeling the best I’ve felt in 20 years !! Thanks for the response

My mother used to walk a lot. She was in better shape than me when she was in her 70s. Then she had to go into a nursing home because of dementia. Her walking stopped. Because of Covid she wasn’t allowed to even leave her hallway. Her health declined rapidly. Her back started to hunch and now she has to use a walker. I wish that we were able to have kept her in her own home for the rest of her life, but we couldn’t trust her to take her medication. She stopped taking it without telling us and her dementia got worse. I am convinced that walking, aside from proper diet, really is the best thing to extend the health of our bodies.

Today, this level of longevity in a man is purely genetic. Perhaps, in another 500 yrs it will be common place for men to remain healthy and active beyond the age of 90 ? However, most biologists agree that the limit to human existence is round 150 yrs of age. The human brain cannot survive in a healthy state beyond this. Interestingly though, there is a point where we simply ‘ stall ‘ in our growth. It’s around the age of 55, that you will see the man that will still be the same person if he lived to 150yrs ! We won’t get wiser, cleverer or mysteriously ‘ cosmic ‘ simply by reaching a ripe old age. Give me the man at 55 and I’ll show you the man he will be for eternity …… So, what’s the point in living beyond a century ?

We need to stop focusing on how people look..and start focusing on how people feel. If you feel awful it doesn't matter what you look like. You could tell by this mans facial expression he was uncomfortable every time she mentioned his looks.
@ritaseymour8116
@ritaseymour8116 3 года назад
I understand what your saying.Far too much credit is given to looks.Its a sad fact that you get treated better if you are not over weight and are good looking,that is why people spend millions on what they look like.One cannot see brains quickly and we live in a fast society.
@Nightbird.
@Nightbird. 3 года назад
@@ritaseymour8116 Believe me..I know..lol. I have seen both sides of the coin. I used to be a model in my younger days. And for all the people that treated me well because of my looks..even more people treated me badly because they assumed I had everything in life handed to me. Little did they know I was a poor and starving college student who would eat only a snickers bar for lunch and a sugar or butter sandwich for dinner..if even that. That's what happens when you have no family to help you. Many times I went to bed hungry..and would pray nobody could hear my growling stomach in classes. Now I'm older..fatter..and my looks are gone. And while I appreciate not being stared at like when I was younger..because I'm no longer attractive..it's like I don't exist either and am pretty much ignored. So..you're screwed no matter..lol. But thanks for understanding!
