The last big service job is to change the spark plugs. This one went a little wrong.

For a horrible moment I thought you were going to say that one of the plugs had snapped as you were taking it out! The damage to the rubber seal, while very annoying, is fortunately short of being a disaster. 😀Happy New Year, by the way.

Happy New Year to you too! My Happy New Year video was quite late this year :-D Yes, it could have been a lot worse. I was quite annoyed at the time though!

I feel your frustration (that’s NOT a euphemism!), glad you escaped cost free, as you say the coils aren’t cheap. Thanks for sharing.

Those coils are very pricey. Quite pleased to have avoided buying replacements.

Sometimes the rubber splits but very rare. I've used super glue to repair it. Also put rubber grease around the rubber seal before you put it back. Makes it a little easier to get out next time you remove it.

That's what I did in the end. Seems to have done the trick and saved me buying a new stick coil.
@brockett
@brockett 4 года назад
That was much more tricky than I expected. Maybe that's why, apart from petrol and tyre pressures, bike manufacturers recomend getting it done by a dealer.

The CB500X was worse, although the coils came out easier.

How did you get the 2 sparkplug 1 and 4 out ,i have a sparkplug tool but its not getting in ,its comming against the frame
@CalmBiker
@CalmBiker 28 дней назад
It's very tight, particularly on the left. I had to move the cabling over and use a universal joint socket and a couple of extensions.
@mrconta
@mrconta 3 года назад
what size to use on the socket for spark plugs?
@CalmBiker
@CalmBiker 3 года назад
I can't remember which spanner I used but these are the spark plugs and it says 16mm, which seems about right. Might be worth double-checking though because I have several sockets and just picked the one to fit. www.opieoils.co.uk/p-63912-ngk-cr9eia-9-6289-laser-iridium-spark-plug-sparkplug.aspx

Nach wieviel km hast du die Zündkerzen gewechselt?

It's every 7,600 miles or around 12,250 km.

The bandit 1250 (Smokey) is more tricky to do the sparkies than the 1200 (Ruby) was but still easy enough for a novice to do.

Hi, as far as i know the ignition coil goes with the rubber. Its to expensive !!! When i change the spark plugs on my moto z1000sx 2018 i have the same issue, to hard to remove the ignition coils, fortunately no damage when i removed them.To install i used a silicone spray lubricant on the rubber. Hope that helps you
@CalmBiker

Thanks for the tip. Sorry for the late reply but RU-vid hid your comment and I missed it. It thought that them.To was a spam link :-D I used some silicon grease to reinstall the coils. Only time will tell if it helps on removing them next time.

@@CalmBiker Hi there! Be careful use this grease because this area is too hot. Better is to use silicon spray to lube the rubber to ignition coils when you install or remove them.

Sorry I didn't reply earlier - just realised I'm not getting all the notifications any more. I ended up gluing the rubber bit. Seems OK so far!

@@CalmBiker I went through all my subs and started to clear out ones that havent been active for 2 or more years. Then find a lot of them have been putting vids up and I'm not getting notifications, so now I have a back log of vids to watch...lol

I bet that was the one underneath the cable? Hope your repair does the trick. I wouldn't hold your breath on being able to buy (just) the rubber.... that's not the way manufacturers do things in my experience. Consider yourself lucky if you can buy just the one 'stick' ..sometimes they only sell them as a set of 4..... not sure if you checked Kawasaki's recommended replacement intervals on spark plugs, on cars the replacement intervals are much longer than they used to be back in the day....
@CalmBiker
@CalmBiker 4 года назад
It was the one I gave up on first. It was absolutely rock solid in there. You can buy the sticks individually for about £85 each so I too hope the repair does the job!

Tie a shoelace around the coil and pull up, easy peasy :)

Should of sprayed some WD40 or similar around the tops of the stick coils and let it seep in before trying to remove them.
@CalmBiker
@CalmBiker 4 года назад
Probably true. I've used dielectric grease for inserting them. Hopefully it'll help next time around.

Not a very easy job buddy, strange how you how four spark plugs and four cylinders but I have four spark plugs but only two cylinders, lol, shame about the rubber on the stick coil mate, RS.
@CalmBiker
@CalmBiker 4 года назад
That is odd! I wonder if two sparks are needed for a good burn with those humongous cylinders.
