Well now you’ve done it- nothing Pentaholics like better than a virgin reactor! Nothing you check out from them will go unnoticed or unliked and I suggest you start with some of their covers or their ‘evolution of’ medleys. Enjoy the journey!
React to "Aha, Live in Singapore was shot with a phone it is great! also react to Hallelujah and Daft Punk (won grammy for this one) Members are Scott (blond), Mitch (very high pitched voice), Kirstin, Kevin (Beatboxer), Avi (Bass, he left the group in 2017), Matt (Bass replaced Avi in 2017) Thanks!
Welcome to PTX from me, a Pentaholic. If you want to see a their live performance of the cover "Gold" by Kiiara, it will show you what they can do. That one is an older video and the bass singer has changed. Otherwise the singers are the same. They've been together for 10 years, winning a contest on TV called the Sing Off in 2011. Those performances are also live and can show you how they started. There are 13 performances, live of the Sing Off Show where they sang.
Wanted to second the idea that you listen to their cover of Gold next but make sure you know the original first for the full appreciation of what they do with it.
Go for broke, Sound of Silence. They have over 150+ songs and videos, both covers and originals. Best way to chose is print off there discography, tape it to the wall and throw a dart. Cant miss with any of them. You too will become a Pentaholic soon. Just subscribed and thanks for your reaction
Check out "Daft punk mix private performance", no microphones, recorded with a cell phone camera 😉 Daft punk won them their first Grammy award. Maybe you can do a double reaction with the official video as well.
I HIGHLY recommend their Evolution of Rihanna (or any medley really... Michael Jackson, Ariana Grande, etc but Rihanna is my fave). They are all shot in one take and you can really tell how the group is broken down and who is responsible for what part
Kevin, in the white jacket is their AMAZING beatboxer, & Matt in the blue checked jacket is their PHENOMENAL bass 😍😍😍 Then there's Kirstin (rhymes with thirsty) lookin like J Lo & Madonna all in 1, Scott, looking like Magnum PI to me 😂 & Mitch... Who, if you're not careful will Mitch Slap ya!!! 😂 These 3 have known each other since high school & Scott had the Acapella idea. In 2011, they were on season 3 of The Sing Off, and they won. They just had their 10 year anniversary. The original bass, Avi Kapland, left the group in 2017 due to family reasons but all of the other 4 are the original members. Just keep that in mind while you're discovering their awesomeness ❤️ Side note- they are 3 time Grammy winners (Daft Punk Medley, Jolene featuring Dolly Parton & Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy)... They won in a category that was created for them...
Also… there is auto-tune in this video for Do You Believe, strictly as a tribute to Cher who is credited with first using auto-tune stylistically. Their other videos don’t have auto-tune enhancements.
Live versions you can watch are Hallelujah from their Xmas special, Sound of Silence from the Jimmy Kimmel Show; Aha! Singapore (taken from a "camera" phone) and Coffee in Bed (original song) on the Late Late Show. Enjoy!
OOO OOO OOO! I have the perfect idea! Watch and react to their Daft Punk Medley official video and then immediately, in the same reaction video, watch their “Daft Punk Off Mic Private Performance” (filmed on an iPhone). You’ll get a side by side show of how they translate their songs live. It’s 🤯🔥
Just know as you explore this group, there has only been one personnel change. The bass in this, Matt, replaced the original bass, Avi. Also note, the girl, Kirsten, and Mitch, the guy with the high voice, are like chameleons and change their look often. There are a lot of live videos of them. Enjoy.
40some reactions in 2 weeks? You're a Pentaholic's dream. And you had me evil giggling from the start. Unfortunately, this medley was made during the pandemic, so there isn't any "live proof" - they've done all their music and videos remotely from their own homes for the past year+. Anything through mid-2019 will have mad proof available, though. In fact, fans would eat up double-reactions if you want to watch an official video and then a VIP or concert version to back it up. The official videos are all worth watching so I don't know if I would suggest skipping them entirely. Things like the VIP performance of Daft Punk or concert footage of Bohemian Rhapsody will blow your mind, though. Thanks for not *just* talking about the nostalgia, though. Even though this medley is fire, it's one of my least favorites to watch reactions to, generally, because people usually just bop to it and zone out on the performance.
Oh, and since no one has said yet as of right this second - not Roswell, but Arlington, TX. The three vocalists grew up together, having met in musical theater at age 10. When Scott (the blond) decided he wanted to try out for The Sing-Off he got Kirstin and Mitch to join him and to make the minimum 5 they found the original bass, Avi, through an a capella friend and Kevin through a viral video of him cello-boxing. They got together for the first time in-person the day before auditioning. The trio were all 19 and Kevin and Avi were 22 in 2011 when they won season 3 of The Sing-Off. 2 weeks later, Sony dropped them from the recording contract they won... but since they had all already moved to LA they decided to try to make it on RU-vid. They did. (Side note: fans LOVE when reactors watch their 14 Sing-Off performances)
welcome to the ptx rabbithole! there is a live version of Hallelujah that is just the same as the video. New Rules x Are You that Somebody is my personal favorite. Havana, Sound of Silence, Can you feel the love tonight, Amazing Grace, Can't Hold Us are all excellent too
Check out their covers of Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Daft Punk, Sound of Silence, Amazing Grace, Mary Did You Know, Halillujah. You won't go wrong with anything they do
I loved your reaction and have subscribed! Here’s a little info on the group. Scott, mostly songs baritone, but also has a huge range, can sing tenor and takes over the bass line when the bass singer is singing. Matt sings bass. He joined the group in 2017 when the original bass singer, Avi, left. This is the only change in the group’s history. The only female, Kirstin sings mezzo-soprano. She changes her hair color a lot so a lot of people don’t always recognize her in other videos, but it is her! Mitch is a tenor and can sing very high. He also changes his appearance a lot. Hair is different in almost every video. If you think it’s a new guy, it’s not. It’s Mitch with the voice of an angel. Kevin, is the beat boxer of the group, but he also has a beautiful tenor voice, can play the cello and saxophone, speaks mandarin, and graduated pre-med from Yale. The group sings original music as well as covers. Most of them also have solo music. For music that shows their talent without any production you can watch: Daft punk medley cell phone camera footage. This was filmed at a private VIP performance. You should also check out the official video. They won their first of 3 Grammys for it. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tw4YCsHXKgI.html Gold live recording m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mW0T0F7VquA.html
They have a deep DEEP catalogue of covers and original music because they’ve been around for a literal decade (they just celebrated their ten year anniversary) so you have plenty to choose from. You want live performances, check out Pop Spring which features their original songs, also check out their Evolution of Rihanna and Evolution of Ariana Grande. But as for studio songs, my favorites are Mad World, Amazing Grace, The Sound of Silence, Dreams, New Rules x Are You That Somebody, and La La Latch (that’s just a few from my top ten). And they just released another original album, though there are no videos for them, my favorites are Bored and Exit Signs.
How they started - the three 'lead' singers were friends in middle/highschool. They separated when Kirsten (the girl) and Scott (blond guy) (who were a year ahead of Mitch (high pitch guy)) graduated. Scott found about an acapella competition show (The Sing Off) from a friend in college, and wanted to compete so he got Kirstie and Mitch. The friend also recommended he add a bass and beatboxer - Avi (their original bass, not in this video) had a good reputation as a bass so I think the friend recommended him. Kevin (the beatboxer, wearing the white jacket and blue shirt look) had a video on RU-vid of himself playing cello and beatboxing that Scott saw and decided he was the one for the group. All five of them met in person the day before their audition for the show lol.
Kirstin and Mitch have been friends since they were 8 years old. Scott became friends with them when he and Kirstin were 14 and mitch was 13. They all loved to sing and formed a trio.
Ben Bram can be seen AS the Mr, Grinch, while Matt has the lead vocal "Mr. Grinch" in a Live/Stage performance in a great Grinch costume. He has also been a strong 'Silent Member' & was on stage for the the initial Grammy Award for Daft Punk. Ben's also a video production wizard. Be careful NOT to confuse him w/the new Ben, Kirstie's Husband (& the New Girl Baby Daddy w/Kristie)
For a really good live video try their Popspring 2016 performance. It was filmed by MTV, so it's good quality. They do three of their original songs, plus their Evolution of Michael Jackson, which is awesome! Give it a go!
New sub here! PTX has so many videos, and you will be amazed with all of them. Their Evolution of Michael Jackson(with original bass Avi), Sound of Silence (with newest bass Matt, whom you saw in this video), And their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody are just a few fan favorites.
New sub here! And fellow Pentaholic. I'm sure you'll get a flood of comments giving you a complete history of PTX. They've won 3 Grammys to date (should've been more) and are the number one A capella...imo. Anything from them is killer. I would suggest New Rules x Are You That Somebody. It's complete fire 🔥
Live performances you can look up from then is live on 24/7 with love again, hallelujah with the Christmas special, any of their evolution videos, gold, somebody that I used to know, there are plenty of other live ones as well. And yes they sound like their studio recordings
The next Live Performance you should watch is their live cover of “GOLD” by Kiiara. Next is the “STAR WARS TRIBUTE” Finally, watch the cell phone video of “Aha! Singapore Live at the Star Vista.” I wanted to save the best of the 5 performances for last. They are 1000% THE REAL DEAL!!! Some of their live performances (Ex. Aha!) Sounds way better than their studio performance/vocal arrangement of it. And others (Ex. GOLD) sound way better than the original performer’s version.
I am so glad that you liked this video. It is a great introduction to PTX (Pentatonix). If you wish to continue down the PTX rabbit hole, then I have a few suggestions. Many people have many favorites in many different categories. "Daft Punk", "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy" and "Jolene" are the three songs they won Grammys for. For covers try "Sound of Silence" (Simon and Garfunkle), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen), and "Imagine" (John Lennon). For original pieces I recommend "Sing", "Happy Now", or "Love Again". Oh and just so you don't get confused on future reactions, there has only been one member change in the 10 years they have been together.
Ok…..I have subscribed for your Pentatonix binge❣️For more great beatboxing and unbelievable greatness, try their Daft Punk cover and a personal favorite, Can You Feel the Love Tonight! I have more favorites (all of them 🤣). Enjoy!
Been making 2watch all your PTX reactions. Noticed on o e U wanted 2see more live/cell phone/raw stuff. HIGHLY recommend you do Aha!, in Singapore at the Star Vista.
Honestly, it is hard to tell you where to start with PTX. I am going to change it up and say, try "Havana" (Cabella cover). Then "Gold" (Kiara cover) also watch the original Kiara version first before PTX to understand Mitch's vocal acrobatics. Kirstie (rhymes with Thirsty) is awesome in "Say Something" (A Great Big World cover); further, Kevin the beatboxer plays cello in this and it is so beautiful. Kevin Olusola is the star in his version of "Down" (Marion Hill cover); once again watch a bit of the Marion Hill original then switch over to Kevin. Scott has such a wild vocal range and super talented. Any PTX video he will shine. However, for a real tear jerker, watch the PTX original "Thank You" where Scott is the center attraction. Freaking amazing all. "Amazing Grace" and "Hallelujah" are the best you will every hear. For XMAS music they have done it all. Check out "Mary Did You Know" and cry a little more. Mitch sings so high and so low it is freaking wonderful. I suggest you watch him in any cover by PTX, but most of all react to "Aha" Singapore Star Vista version. the video is somewhat crappy but Mitch slays it.
Scott, the blonde, Kirstie (the girl), and Mitch, guy with high voice have been friends since middle school. Kevin the beat boxer was found on RU-vid for doing something he created, Cello-boxing, Yes he plays Cello. Matt, the bass, is the only non original member he took Avi Kaplan 's place and has been fantastic. Scott got them together for the show the Sing Off..which they won and boom 10 years later and 3 Grammy's and over 5 BILLION views they continue to roll. It's a deep rabbit hole....come on in...
Ok - Pentaholic here and you earned a new sub based solely on the comment "...unless they crashed in Roswell...this is what the government kept from us!?!" I've heard people refer to them as aliens or not of this world - but that my sir, wins my sub!!! Looking forward to more PTX reactions!
Although there are plenty of cell phone shot fan videos out there I always kind of hate them because they’re ruined by their neighbor who’s screaming and making all kinds of nonsense noises or worse yet singing along (God help us) and of course cell phones have notoriously terrible sound quality. A better recommendation would be any of their “evolution of“ videos. They are all shot in one take live in a studio so you get studio quality sound without all the terrible filming and noise of a fan shot video.
Nice reaction. You need to watch their cover called Gold. It’s live and they are all sitting down and you can see everything each person does. One take!
List of some Pentatonix Bangers: Attention New Rules x Are you that somebody Daft Punk Medley Can't Hold Us Havana Gold (Live performance) Ride (Live performance) Can't wait to see more! Thanks for the fun reaction.
Great reaction! It's especially fun when the reactor knows a lot of the songs. For future reactions: PTX Bohemian Rhapsody, PTX Imagine, Kevin Olusola Down (solo project by the beatboxer), and PTX New Rules/Are You That Somebody. Note: The original line up of 5 singers had a different bass, Avi Kaplan, so some of these videos will include him. Since 2017 the bass is Matt Sallee, including in this video. That's the only change from when they formed in 2011. Looking forward to more PTX reactions.
Checkout their video of Daft Punk medley, also a private perform of that song shot by cellphone. The older videos will have the original bass singer Avi Kaplan, who left & got replaced with the current one you saw in a blue jacket. The new bass "Matt" was handpicked by the previous bass.
Nicholas Hart, Matt was not handpicked by Avi. Matt auditioned, along with other bass singers. He went to the final audition well prepared and had learned all of Pentatonix songs. His voice, personality and work ethic won the job for him. Matt knew Ben, yet he still had to audition.
@@NicholasAHart Yeah, Avi picking Matt is one of those fables that keeps on going. There was no way Avi would pick a singer for a group that he was no longer a part of. The others could do that for themselves.
They did add some effects to this to pay homage to the 90s sound. But they’re usually fairly transparent when they add a lot of production in their videos.
BRO!!!! Welcome to PTX. This is aDEEEEP rabbit hole. They are incredible. I think you'll dig em. Can't wait for your reactions. They have an amazing catalogue. Buckle up!!! (They are just as amazing live)
I absolutely LOVE your reaction! Thanks so much! I hope you look at Bohemian Rhapsody, Evolution of Michael Jackson, Gold (studio setting), New Rules...
REACT TO 'PENTATONIX SING OFF DOG DAYS ARE OVER'.. its a live performance of them when they had just started out on a competition show.. LIKE THIS COMMENT SO HE CAN SEE!! Thats one of their amazing performances before they got any auto tuning or any effects.. pure amazing 👌👌👌
