"That's not just nostalgia, that's emotion that's been encoded into the music" Right, that's it, I'm calling it. I think you should rename your channel 'Owen The Genius'
this is one of the best music tutorials ive ever seen. i hate pretty much all tutorials esp when they have to do with chords, music theory, but this one is just simple to digest and well made, nice work man
the way you explain the progressive notes makes so much difference. it takes away the flatness and adds depth. many of these tracks were produced with stereo effects in place and it has a nostalgic feel every time. great content
Daisy Dee OMG! Listening to an old skool rave set earlier, hearing the other synth melody, thinking "whoa, I forgot about this tune"... jumped to shazam, Somebody Real, jumped to youtube, boom drops straight in with that Piano. "That's the piano from Owens Propa Pianos, the BEST ONE!" Pure mad moment. Pure euphoria! Unbelievable!!!
Only just had my attention drawn to this channel but subbed - great stuff. I remember a lot of these tunes from the first time round.. Almost 30 years.. :D
Mate where has the piano roll gone? I loved your Prodigy vid as it taught me as well as the understanding behind it, hope you can add it back again as it would make me so happy to learn these riffs 🙂👌🏼
Lets have a go at this Baby D,Let Me Be Your Fantasy Jimi Polo,Better Days Shades Of Rhythm,Sound Of Eden Bit Machine,Somebody Real Elevation,Can You Feel It Hyper Go Go,High / Rhythm Is Rhythm,Strings Of Life Awesome 3,Dont Go Asha,JJ Tribute :D
AMAZING! I think I can crown you the winner, but I have to say there's no Strings Of Life in there (Hyper Go Go - High is obviously inspired by Rhythm Is Rhythm!). Also, while Asha's JJ Tribute is the original source of the final piano, that one was a trick question because I actually emulated the track that samples it instead... I'm sure you know exactly which one I mean! ;)
The 2nd piano although was used in Jimi Polo's Better Days, it was originally 40 Miles - Congress. There's a vocal version and non-vocal version of that.

This is some real premium stuff. Knowledge that I really personally needed to know. Thanks Owen really fucking glad I found your videos mate. You have opened my mind to start making some old school classic stuff. Cheers 👍
Great channel. Very informative content. Any chance you could do a vid on how stompy happy hardcore drums were made or the off beat stabs? I know 99% of them just sampled the Hoover from charley but there were a lot of variations and I can't figure out how they were done. Thanks for the videos! Keep them coming!
I don't think 99% of them sampled the hoover from Charly. Probably more tracks sampled the Mentasm hoover, but there were lots of great stabs. You've got me thinking now... Might do a stabby video!
Wow, a lot of my all time favourites there, including my number 1 all time favourite Baby D. Would you be willing to share the Midi files for these please?
Hi Owen, Great video. Request - Any chance you could change from velocity to pitch in the key editor for future videos? Would be great to watch. Especially for Cubase users who have the key colours burnt in their brain. Cheers!
None of them are the Korg M1, though the last one is something very similar. There's loads of other classic lo-fi pianos, as you see! JV-1080, JD-800, SQ-80, SY-85, U-220, JX-1, D-50, Proteus/1, and on and on
Baby D - Let me Be your Fantasy Jim Polo - Better Days Sound of Eden - Shades Of Rhythm Don't know :( Don't know :( Hyper Go Go - High Awesome 3 - Don't Go Don't know
