Well... you "only" need four more marines of each of these chapters to field them as five man strong battle squads! The rules were published in White Dwarf towards the end of 2nd edition iirc. A battle squad so half a tactical squad , assault squad etc fielded for half the cost. Non Ultra Marine chapter units would be allies I guess. Anyway... looks great. Cool seening those more obscure chapters getting some love and great display!
Youve inspired me to get into oldhammer. Im too young to remember the good ol days myself, but these models are so gorgeous and charming. It just goes to show that its more than just nostalgia that makes this stuff so appealing. These videos are amazing, thanks for making them :)
Ah, so this is the reason you've been on my feed so much, I started painting a mantis warriors army about 3 months ago, for a disord challenge. Im just about 1000 pts in. Here's a trick I've picked up, use the old Mantis Warriors chapter symbol, it is much easier to freehand. Anywho, I'm loving your channel so far, classic paint style, classic delivery. Whatever you're doing, keep it coming. Please leave your little songs in too, they've grown on me.
Great marines, of course - but the backdrop's really something, especially the view of space. I admit if I'd been doing something like that I'd likely have printed off a background without a second thought, but having it painted instead really makes it something to be proud of in its own right, as well as giving your tacticals somewhere to stand.

Funny. Im currently co verting a small force of Raptors, using Primaris armour, but older weapon systems and helmets. I've always liked the Star Phantoms myself, cool as hell drop pod specialists.

I wonder if it’s called violator metal because there is an offshoot of the emperors children named the violators, and they where dark blue armor with bright silver trim. But I doubt it

Great stuff! My marine army is mantis warriors, I did not initially intend them to be retro-styled but at the time I started collecting those old plastic marines made up most of the best ebay lots so that is kind of the style it took. Since then I have definitely gotten more of the 2e itch, so it was a happy coincidence. I commend your bravery for painting the chapter badge, I went with the transfers 😆. I love these chapters with just a blurb or two of lore, you can really come up with your own stuff.
...I am very far from certain that it wasn't your Ultramaroons that started the 90's SMC. But, great fun, s'always nice to see the mad marine chapters get some attention.
Wish I'd heard of this challenge earlier. I've been meaning to do something with my excess old plastic marines (I only use Dark Vengeance models for the Tacticals in my Fallen army). I _could_ probably paint a squad in the next 12 days, though. If I'm willing to put my Drukhari Kabalites on hold for it, that is. Now I just need to decide if I want to paint them Salamanders or Blood Angels. Salamanders would be good, as they're one of my favorite loyalist chapters, and I've got a single Flamer wielder. But another model has some obvious Blood Angels parts. It's a tough decision.
I have a lot in common with your Astral Claw Marine, I too am alone on the battlefield and although i don't know the date & time of my death, i do know the exact hill, in which i make make my defiant last stand upon. It's funny how we are all born free men, yet we imprison ourselves with the very beliefs we create, or choose to believe in! Truth is all i concern myself with brother Matthew and as i die i will have the last laugh, knowing this is all just a game, a game which you should play for fun!! See there is no winning the game of life, as no one gets out alive; Everything is an illusion we are either told or tell ourselves, but like the true "Fool" brother Matthew i play this game anyway, even knowing the truth & the inevitable outcome of the game. I like your paint job brother Matthew and the nostalgia it brings! Perhaps one day you and brother Tinnitus will stand by my side and help hold the line with me, driving fear & doubt into the hearts of the heretics? I suppose the physical minis could survive as keepsakes within your family, or perhaps end up in a collection somewhere; As long as there is an internet, then there will always be evidence of them and your nice paint jobs, even though it's not a physical representation, so in a sense they still exist. But the fact they ever were and that you painted them will always be! See everything & every event no matter how big or small, makes up the interwoven threads of the tapestry of life, so in that way they are forever/eternal. Remember your thoughts are not physical, yet they still exist and sometimes even effect the physical world, such as the colour your minis turn out to be. Life, Death, concepts/thoughts, physical and none physical, are just different sides of the same coin; You cant have one without the other, which is why difference, in the sense of separate from one another is an illusion, there is no duality! Everything can only be by having an opposite, the Chinese Taoists represent this with the Yin and Yang symbol, even Jesus realised this, but when he tried to share it with the people, he was nailed to a cross as a heretic. Your minis cant outlive you brother Matthew, for without you your minis would not be the minis they are, physically & mentally you shaped them, so they have become an extension of you!! There is no beginning nor end and just like the table top, life is a game brother Matthew. this is a shot in the dark but do you know where I could possibly find spare bolter and backpack for the model at 5:18? my ebay space marine collection has a bunch of this model but no bolter or backpack. At this point id gladly take 3d printed
I tend to get all my spares off eBay but I don't have a 3d printer so I am not sure about stls. I reckon the files exist for those parts I'm just not sure where they are. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
@@Miniscape-wh40k Meh. I just prefer quarters as heraldry on a shoulder pad rather than on the whole model. The Badab War book has some really nice pictures of the Howling Griffons scheme with black armour and the chapter colours on the pads. Still, I love your project! It may have inspired me for a smaller project for while I'm not gaming.
