I was having a great time heading east in the lower South Island when everything changed and floods arrived. I did get in a few great hikes though and also met some amazingly kind people.
It was so dry in Feb so it is good to see all the rain in the rivers. You are very stoic being out there walking in the rain....and fit! Well done, happy trails!
Have been to Hast and just about every corner of S. Island and would give anything to end my days there as to me it is the most beautifull place I have ever seen, but stupid government are getting stupid as too who they let in. Am retired and would move in a breath if allowed but too many things you need to have which I don't, but the thing I have least of of is poor health, am a very fit and healthy individual, also British and as we founded the modern day N. Zealand we of all people should be allowed to move there. After all , if I can move to Portugal with just a plane ticket and we didn't develop Portugal, just a peace treaty. Then we surely should be allowed to move to N. Zealand as 75% of the people are of British decent.. O there's is never any traffic on that road in summer as well as we travelled that section in Jan 99
Yes Haast sure is a stunning place and I plan to go back hopefully in dry weather. Who is to know why governments make certain decisions but we can only persevere and hopefully achieve what we desire or seek out alternatives. I wish you well.
