Part 2 of the Firewall - Stamping for strength and looks.
Today Chris is going to make a Male and Female stamp that along with a simple press, we'll stamp the sheetmetal Firewall. This can be done on the cheep, but he cuts it out with the Plasma CNC and then uses a press to form the sheetmetal we cut out in the first video.

Heat the sheet metal first, then stamp it.

I know you’re using an Audi 012, but would the 1.8t bolt to the OEM 914 transmission?

Not without an adapter. And the 012 is cheaper and better. Only thing you have to deal with is the shifter and CVs.

What CV shafts did you use? Were they custom?

I use boxster flanges on the trans which are 100mm, a 100mm adapter on the brake side, and a off the shelf VW bus axle, available at any local parts store… it’s quite literally a perfect setup. You can skip some linkage and sourcing flanges if you go Boxster 5 speed but that’s a bit more expensive. Still gotta machine adapters on the outside but it’s not impossible.

@@alexanderlevi2257 I have a similar setup and I hunted down the Passat/Audi transmission that came with the 108mm cv flange size(They're out there and easy to change over if you want a certain gear ratio transmission). I had already converted my 914 over to 911 rear axle stubs. I used a BMW 540i from 98ish with the 108mm cv to run the one side (it was the perfect length) and then a 911 axle from 72-75 108mm 4 bolt cv with a hollowed out cv case from the donor Passat/Audi to make up the difference with longer cv bolts. It all seams to run fine. I did eventually change the 911 72-75 4 bolt cv over to the newer style 911 cv with the 6 bolts(85-89).
