After undergoing extensive firebox repairs for over a year, SR Battle of Britain 34081 92 Squadron returned to service at its home, the Nene Valley Railway, on 13th April. I spent the day riding behind the loco and watching it from the lineside.
I started at Peterborough, where 34081 is seen running round the 4 coach train. Next, I travelled on the train to Wansford, bagging a front window all the way there. The following shot shows 92 Squadron departing Wansford for Yarwell Junction. Having caught the train on its way back to Peterborough, I got off at Overton and watched the train leave. Then, I walked towards Wansford, setting up just west of the 10mph speed restriction over the River Nene. Here, we see the 'Spamcan' accelerating back up to 25mph. My next shot was going to be at Orton Mere station but the traffic noise from the nearby dual carriageway was too intrusive so I moved onto Longueville Junction, where the Fletton branch diverges. 34081 is seen twice, either side of the foot crossing at the junction, to round off an excellent day.
Here are some stills I took as well:
