She’s an embarrassment to her profession!! to say that if they ask us to show it, we would do that. NO!,, her job, and the money that she gets for listing that house requires HER to do that not the householder who’s 80 years old . The agent needs to go back to school and come to realize what her responsibility is. It is Unbelievable the lack of real concern for people and yet they want their money!

Estate agents don’t earn a penny until your keys are handed over to the buyer. The agent would have done the viewings IF the vendors actually allowed it. The fact that they took 16 months to bring the price down by only £13k shows how difficult the vendors were. The price should have been coming down 6 weeks after they went on the market not 16 months! Viewings aren’t the only job of an estate agent either, there are million other things we do after you’ve found a buyer, and if it all falls through we could have spent days, weeks, months of working on your house and you get to walk away and not pay a penny. And to add to that it’s not just your house in the chain we’re dealing with, we could have been dealing with 10 other families on that chain, messaging at all hours, telephone calls whilst we’re out with our families and the stress of hearing about your divorces, illnesses, and taking all of your problems on for months on end. You seriously have no idea. This is why the rate of depression and burnout is so high in estate agency.

( In those countries with a housing shortage crisis, so UK, Eire, NZ, Australia, USA, Canada) EVERY house will sell within a few days, or very few weeks, if it is offered at a genuinely affordable price. People don't refuse to buy a house because of the colour of curtains or carpets. They refuse, or more correctly, they cannot, buy a house for 5 times the price the last owner bought it for, just 10 or 20 years ago, just because the current owner wants to make a big fat profit (and in many countries cases, that capital gains profit is entirely tax free).

Usually estate agents get sellers to sign a contract that lasts for months, and if they go with a different agent they'll still have to pay a fee to the first agent in addition to the fee to the second agent who actually sells it I would hope that a TV show like this could find them a way out of the contract, but I assume as they stuck with that agent they couldn't or weren't willing to try!

The thing is,when you get older it doesn’t seem important to spend money changing things. When you’re not so nimble and have health conditions changing decor is the last thing on your mind. Go into most older peoples homes and you’ll see things from a span of years, that have a special meaning. This collection is the same as keeping things from your childhood or memories of your children. I call it life memories. It’s not a collection of mismatched items. These people are living in their “home”, not a sterile environment.

Having electrical wires and waterpipes easily accessible, for inspection and repair is the way things SHOULD be normally (so long as that's in compliance with local rules). It doesn't matter that this is from 16 years ago - something that hasn't changed is that sellers and buyers have no imagination. The seller can't see the house the way the buyers will. The buyers cannot imagine what the house will look with a paint and carpet change. So much wrong here, especially the estate agent letting all this business go on without caring - completely useless. @@sylsuthss Hopefully it was good for you that the seller or their agent left it in those polarizing colors. Bad for the seller who likely could have sold for thousands more by first doing the painting in white or another neutral color. Most people have poor visualization skills and no imagination - they cannot unsee a house once they have seen it as a mess, poorly decorated, or with questionable colors or weird/clunky layouts of furniture. The average house has too much furniture and clutter. Honestly, despite what these shows tell you, when it came to property hunting I could care less about the current decor and entirely ignored the furnishings that would be leaving. I was very driven by price, location and the things about the place that aren't going to change - like room size, amount and size of windows, etc. We were also very clear we'd be buying a brick or stone built house, not one of the new builds with flimsy construction. Don't let a bit of carpet or wallpaper put you off the right house, in the big picture it's very minor issues. And guy next door with the mess garden is totally blagging it. It's the way he keeps saying yeah, he's used to placating people when he doesn't do stuff. Then he says in a week, then says two... something like that, then trails off vaguely. The only comment that I have is that when you were showing the property is that you showed a little bit of the kitchen which was horrible and we all know that kitchen and bathrooms are the most expensive! Bedrooms and living rooms you spend very little money there in comparison. why not put the most of the money where people Don’t think in their mind “Oh my god I have to remodel the kitchen and the bathroom” not saying that you have to remodel those but you would have to do a serious facelift on both which can be done fairly inexpensively, but that’s where a lot of people who are buying, including myself, are looking to see how much expense is it going to be to fix the kitchen and the bathrooms

That is true. For me, they are the selling points of any home. I would have been willing to buy the house as it is and declutter and paint for 500 pounds but if the kitchen and bathroom aren't great and needs extensive updating, it will be a put-off.

The estate agent is just plain lazy. I hope others that have houses with this company and haven't sold, look into it. This company should not be paid for selling her house. When I lived in England it was normal for the owner to show prospective buyers around the house. Estate agents only listed the property then took their commission when the house sold. Moving to America we were amazed that the realtor came and showed the house. Not only that they wrote up the contract when an offer was made, did all the paperwork and showed up at the closing.

There is nothing wrong in that home, I would buy it in a heart beat purely for the fact they had spent 30 happy years there. Plus the fact I don’t need a hole load of money spent on the place when I’m going to come in and decorate to my own taste, people sadly lack vision these days you have to move in with your mind, look around see your furniture there, it’s only going to go up in prise if the home owner has to spend a ton a redecoration! As you have pointed out the only thing that would put me off is the next doors rubbish dump, as it says we don’t care about our place or how much it devalues your home. I have lived over from a family like that for 33 years and when we have tried to sell people just drive off. If they asked social services to to step in they would give them an O.T and get them a stair lift. I think there home is lovely and a person that’s looking for a home that’s vintage would be well chuffed but the I’m 52 and grew up with values and a strong work ethic, these days people want a police for free!

This was posted 2 weeks ago, but then it says the home price is "as of Autumn 2008" so this is actually 16 years ago?? I would have said I hope this video cost that estate agent her job, but she might even be retired by now. I don't understand about the fireplace in the front room being completely closed off. Is that a cover? Does it work? They never mentioned a word about either fireplece (also the one in the second bedroom upstairs) either during the reno or while showing the house. I would have very much liked to see what they did with the kitchen. I think they should have waited to finish the video until the property sold so that they could report how long it took after the reno to sell and for what price.

Loved the owners, everyone would love a nan like her. The problem I have with this programme though is.. they spent £500 on some paint and decluttering but even after 4 weeks the house still hadn't sold which kind of tells me that the issues are probably more to do with the kitchen and bathroom which they failed to show us or address and are as everyone knows.. the money areas of a house. I also hate that they never say if the house eventually sold or not and if so, how much for. The estate agent was useless and just took their money for doing nothing at all, could have listed it themselves and saved the realtor fee.

What always gets me is that the owners are not going to leave their furniture and ornaments. Yes the carpet would stay and of course you the wall paper. But I bet new owners would change that. When I went to see the house I live in now, it had pink carpet, anaglypta wallpaper painted bay blue. A worn out main bedroom carpet the list goes on. But I look past that, knew I wasn’t keeping any of it and factored that all in when I purchased the house. When you view a property it is not your home until you buy it and then you make changes that then make it your home.

And this is why most, but not all, estate agents generally have a bad name. You’re being paid to sell a house, not an interior design concept. Paint and paper is superficial and you should already have plenty of photos that show off the good points and the drawbacks so that you’re not wasting everybody’s time when people book a viewing. That presenter is too sniffy as well. If she can’t sell a house without totally redecorating and refurnishing it she’s in the wrong business and no use to man nor beast either. I feel really cross about the way these elderly vendors are being treated.
