Another great video! Loved the yard sign at the 18:50 mark :-) As always; thanks for sharing these videos. You make it look effortless and I imagine that is not the case. The Morgans are part of the foundation that makes the country great.
Great job, the three of you did great. Thanks Hunter for Supervising your Mom and Dad while they finished the first drain line. That little Kubota sure does a big job around there. Melissa sure did a great job using the Drag Line too, that’s a lot harder to operate. Thanks for sharing with us, it’s appreciated. 👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I am planning to add some trenches/drainage to my place with my BX23s next spring. One thing I plan on doing is laying some caution tape along the gravel before I backfill. That way if I need to dig in future I will hit the tape first whether intentionally or accidentally before I hit the pipe. Keep up the great videos.
Mike, That big roof plus all those big trees equals lots and lots of leaves in the gutters unless you spring for some leaf guards atop the gutters. BTW, we all know that Mike hit the jackpot finding Melissa as a partner!
Certainly. Melissa has also passed on some fine traits to the current generation of Morgan Ladies. Hanna embodies the "strong silent type, at least at a distance. Personally I find it an honor and delight to know the Morgan Ladies at any distance, , including geosync or lunar orbits. Stellar Ladies too smart for Hollywood.
@Ken Haslam The Big Hair comment reminded me another classic image of the time can now be re-imagined. Farah Fawcett was a queen of big hair. Imaginein a certaint red one-piece swimsuit, worn by Melissa as in the famous poster. She is after all 25 , twice, but who''s counting? Her beauty is timeless and far more than skin deep. I expect this to remain a thought experiment,. And a suggestion for our favorite couple, God bless the Morgans all.
WOW !! Mike, you have such a loyal and devoted wife in Melissa !! You're a blessed husband !! Nothing is too much for her !! Your hobby warehouse is perfect for the Morgan household !!
Spray foam the inside walls with 2" closed cell foam, that will help with sound deadening, also insulating and creating a vapor barrier. I had my complete building sprayed with closed cell foam and love it!
I sometimes put a heat cable in a culvert drain or roof drain in case of freeze up in the early spring . Only has to be turned on a short time to get the water to flow.
Mike, that's exactly the way I ran my downspouts on my house. Except I dug 150 feet by hand and as result I had to have back surgery shortly afterwards. Also, I have a metal building 30x50 that I am currently finishing the inside myself. Mine will be part garage and part wood workshop. Your building looks really good. Love your videos!
Brand new spouting, already changing them, can't say i blame you. Melissa is a real trooper, instead of doing girly things, she's in the ditch helping. Have a Day you all, Jay from Pa.
My wife and I were just discussing the fact that our leaves here in central Indiana are so much more colorful this year than in past years. We built a 40' x 60' barn with a 40' wrap around porch last year that is very similar to what you are putting up. Mike and Melissa, we love your youtube channel!
Mike - Another great video showing your skills on the equipment. That shale you put down for the base of the building site was a bit of a challenge for your small tractor to get through. But it sure beats digging that by hand. Blessings to you, Melissa, and the kids. Hi to Hunter, Hannah, and Eva.
I’ve got a shovel with a blade that is worn down, just like yours. I get young folks to do my shovel work these days but I love leaning on my favorite as I direct and add ‘value’ to the job. Have a day
My dad had a shovel like that with the tip completely worn off ... it was his go to shovel for everything ... I have it now ... love Melissa’s “meh it works” comment when ask about being on the pipe crew ... 👍
Nothing but HIGH QUALITY in all you do! After you’re all done take a hose and show us how well it does dispensing the water. Loving the progress❣️ Marcus from Chesapeake VA.
Mike - You need to buy Melissa a paint stick so she doesn't have to hunch over to paint a line. Got to watch out for key talent FTEs ! I did something similar to what you did but I added a Wye at the downspout with a screen . The Wye gives you a chance for an easy clean out if necessary. Also made the 90 degree turn with two 45s so that if I did need to use the clean out Wye a snake would nicely navigate that corner. Very nice project. Look forward to the updates.
That one heck of a "Pipe Crew & Supervisor" you have there Mike. Hunter making sure the job done right and the "Crew" to make sure you get the trench to proper depth and incline. Great Combo no matter how you look at it. Spicy Chicken ALL AROUND!! Have a great day[night] and a better tomorrow.
You guys are doing such a phenomenal job! The attention to detail is beyond admirable! It is wonderful to see how you two work together and have some fun with each other. You are modeling for your kids in such a beautiful way! Can't wait to see the inside work start! 👏👏👏
southern plains around my area and going on 3 weeks with no rain. Leaves on trees are dropping and not much color other than brown.....drought time again. Building looks great and can't wait to see how the concrete crew ties everything into the walls. Your helper does a good job so give her a pay raise .
pipe size is fine just hope you don't have problems i had on my building leaves plugging at 90.s i ended up putting leaf cover on gutter to stop plugging
We did what you are doing in Wisconsin on our old house, and every year we had freeze problems. Not sure how cold it gets there, but that may happen by you as well. I would absolutely put a clean-out plug at the beginning. Something will eventually plug things up -- and if it's ice like we had, you may need to pour some warm water down it.😊
😌 thanks for the info you folks put out, very informative. Any chance of you putting out labor cost for the long haired workers you have? I've found my labor costs are very high. Thanks again. Have a day.😌
Hi Mike and Melissa i also love this time of the year the whoil countryside becomes a work of art the magnificent colors does your heart good nice video
Mike, I have noticed that over the years, you have spent a lot of time working on the flow of water. Thanks for sharing what you have done. I will use some of your ideas with our place in Manitoba. Have a few spots that need to drain better. Thanks again. I pray you all had a great weekend.
"Non-verbal," doesn't mean non-communicative: While we were learning about Mike's blasting shovel, Huntman was pointing to the Ford and signaling to Melissa that he was ready to head to BK. When that didn't get the point across, he positioned himself in front of the driver's side door (in line with the camera's filming of the trench being dug), and looked like his stomach was rumbling. Love the Huntman's priorities: Spicy chicken trump's blasting shovel in my world.
I have the bx23s and that little backhoe never disappoints me it does so many things and is great at everyone one of them. I dug out tree stumps that were 16 inches in diameter and it never sneezed at them. I quess what saying is it's a great little machine.
I have been putting in new downspout lines by ✋ around my house. One more to go and I will be done. I am pretty proud of myself for doing this project.
💥 Thanks for reminding us all what a shovel looks like. I have a couple similar looking things in my shed. I was wondering what they were. "Keep on tractoring!"
your gutters are going to catch a lot of leaves...a Y cleanout at the downspout to drain transition would be a good idea...also 45 degrees from the downspout to main line instead of out to a 90 lets water/debris flow better...
@@daves7525 You have to be careful which gutter guards you use. Some of the expensive fancy ones do not let enough water through so in a hard rain the water just runs over them. We just replaced our fancy expensive ones with cheaper ones that actually let water through.
Got a JD 1025R. The backhoe is my least used, BUT most useful and most fun implement. You don’t use it a lot, but man are you grateful to have it when you’re digging a 150 foot trench, tree roots or burn pits.
That's funny Mike. My buddy just broke a small garden hand shovel. I told him I had made my own over 30 years ago. I took a full size shovel. That the handle broke off of. I cut the blade down. Then took the metal end where the handle went in. I dipped it in liquid grip. I love that shovel and will fight over it. God bless
You must have so much fun, "playing" with all the different gear. Like a kid in a toy shop, but for real tasks. I also like my old shovel just like yours for all general moving stuff around, but since I started doing more fence repair and digging drains work and the like, a fencing shovel has been what I have used most. In Oz, the heavier grade is the sewer pipe and the stormwater is the thinner pipe. I would have used a bit less 2a limestone as backfill, but at least the shale was useful to fill the low spot in the "shed"/barn.
Mike - you make the trench digging look simple/easy. Would like to see Melissa on the backhoe and find out how hard it is for a rookie to dig a few feet. Think it would be entertaining. Thanks for having us along on the build.
I'm retired and find it challenging to find the time to watch your videos. How you find time to hold a full-time job and then all the work on your property is beyond me.
You two are very special together. Glad to see Hunter out supervising the work. This might be the first time a puppy hasn’t been on-camera... at least in quite a while... except of course while you were traveling. (I think that’s enough disclaimers!)
I think I might have put a clean-out at the first downspout for all the leaves that you might get into the drain system. That is unless you are going to put a leaf guard on your gutters! There I go, spending your money again! 😜
nice work. I like to see projects where you do it above the norm to make sure you never have to do it again. Laughed when the dog had to run out and get involved in painting the trench line. never fails. Especially a young dog that is learning...has to inspect everything. Have to be careful what you teach them too. I used to take my glove off during a break and throw it for my dog to retrieve just to take a second to play with him. I didn't realize what I was doing. I created a monster. haha. If I ever set my gloves down while working, they were never where I left them. The dog would carry them away 20 yards, lay down and chew on them. after all... I had taught him that was his play toy.
Good day from NC! (It may take me a while getting used to not being MidMo) We got one trailer of our stuff unloaded today. We’ll get our bedroom, bathroom, and closet organized this afternoon. Pretty out here too. Have a good day!
My grandfather had a favorite "worn out" shovel like yours. He always cleaned and oiled it before hanging it up in the shed. He called it his "2 pony" shovel because like yours, the tip was worn back so far that it had two points. I tried it and I think they should come from the factory like that. Good for finish grading a ditch bottom. What kind of fall are you putting on the pipe? When you tie in the other downspout, think about transitioning to 6". That little backhoe will make you appreciate the trackhoe.
Mike I noticed you adjusted the thumb on the backhoe part of the way through the video. I saw that it was set down close to the bucket and gets in the way. I did the same thing while recently digging a 300’ trench down the side of my driveway for a propane line.
Won’t be long until time for a concrete slab in that building I did a large barn with similar side porch a couple years ago so I know what your going through. Just finished the interior framing and spray foam so just a little ahead of you guys now. Sure enjoy your channel.
That kubota is the bomb for this job.Great job mike.I would seriously consider a CLEANOUT on the other drains, you may never or rarely need them, but you went whole hog on a good job a couple fittings won't bankrupt this job.Sometimes you can't think of everything.Things are coming nicely.
I think if I had been installing the drain line I feel a longer sweep 90 would allow the water to flow better. If you are draining half of the roof area the water is going to have a tough time making the short radius without backing up. It will be really interesting to see if you use a standard "T" fitting or a sweep T on the final connection. Also, if you do have an issue down the road maybe adding a copper wire in or along side the pipe for tracing would have been beneficial
You know, I never would have thought that about the way the sound would bounce off the barn as it does. Melissa I think Balsam, fir and pine trees would make wonderful sound blocks and look beautiful :)
1 inch of rain is .67 of a gallon per square foot of roof area. Even a short steady shower will yield 500 gallons very quickly. I have a rain water system that holds 7000 gallons. A couple years ago 3 spring rains filled it completely up. My shop/garage roof area is 44x32 .
Nice pick on the sound Melissa! Sound proof board on the inside of the building! Excellent idea and Mike your lucky to have Melissa as a partner, she has good sense of what is good.. I guess we will have to wait and see what you thought of her suggestion of sound proof boards in the new building when you start sheet rocking inside?? Building looks awesome
I’m really impressed on how Mike and Melissa work very well together. There is nothing wrong with couples working together. My wife and I spend time working on large outdoor projects. We complement each other. I’m guessing Mike and Melissa do the same. My belief is that it helps keep a marriage growing. Let’s face it in today’s world,it’s easy to become disconnected with each other and eventually relationships suffer. But by working together, it builds communication and strengthens bonds and creates continuity and permanence to a relationship. Good night from Highgate,Vermont.
You guys are consistently doing it up right. Hey Mike, I just got delivery on my new DJI Osmo Action cam. Thanks for the tip as being one of your favorite cameras. There are a lot of You Tube videos from pros that say the same thing.
Mike is so freaking smooth with his tractor controls. I hope to be 10% as good as him once we move to our 9 acres and I get a new Kubota toy. I have watched a ton of your videos and get a lot of inspiration and knowledge from your channel.
Glad to see you are doing this, if a Pole building this size has one vulnerability , it's the water shedding off the roof . Without these drain's you'd be reworking the grading around the Barn after every rain . Good fore thought Mike
This weather here in south central PA has been great too, but I have been unable to do much in it. I was in the hospital for congestive heart failure and have only been out for about a week and am still recovering.
I don't know if you made a decision on a boiler yet but you might want to check out portage and main, they make a great machine very efficient and I believe there is a dealer in north Lima
I’ve looked at your channel for sometime now. Noticed the Morgan baseball hat colors, who would have known these colors Mike picked out for the Hobby Barn was right on the top of your head. Amazing!
Screenings VS Stones? Mr. Morgan what would be better? Here we us screenings covering pipes. ......Your info and videos are top shelf, thanks for sharing!....................Ken
Do you have a well? This building would be great for rainwater catchment. I liked the little blue yard sign in the upper left corner while you were digging toward the end.
Your lucky we still get the smoke out from the west, somedays it's still bad, really messes with our weather out here, my grass is golden brown cause we dont get the sun or rain, just smokey skis here in Sioux falls SD
Mike, definitely you understand moving dirt and finding proper grade. Melissa, how many wives are helping out by “being in the trenches?” You are the epitome of a Proverbs 31 wife! The Morgans, the French would call you, incroyable!
@@tomgarabed6568 The adapter looks like it was glued in on the video. But it's hard to tell. The pipe can't move in the ground and the downspout can't move screwed to the building. Is it still possible to run a smaller snake head after removing the downspout .. sure. But that may fall into the "regret" part. Also small sticks and branches will be more likely to get stuck on a 90 degree without those being sweep fittings. Adding a cleanout so it is only a matter of removing a cap fitting to gain access simplifies maintenance. It is why they exist. But .. good luck.
@aeasus I totally agree a clean out never hurts until you don’t have it. And with that 90 guess where all the debris will collect? Might be years but even if he buried it he’d still come out ahead in the long run. At least he went with good pipe, should help some.
Mike , you’ve spent some time inn the pipe isle. Not many know about the schedule 40 , adapter the reducer to fit with downspouts , much cleaner look, i use them on my rentals for high traffic areas , tenants kids are rough and flatten just reg metal downs and 45 ‘s and bottom of wall , love watching , miss my butler pa area , troutmans , Kelly Chevy deadlier , KERR aplpliances , ford dealer at end of business district , Pullman steel , builder of first Jeep , just under the bridge
Curious if PA has codes for depth on the drain pipes? The only 'code' we follow in that regard in WI is to make sure that there are no flat spots in the drain slope and that it is deep enough to not be affected by the frost.
Mike if it is not too late I would highly suggest you add a couple of clean outs in that long run of pipe. Only speaking from experience. I had to go back and install some in mine. I have had clogs where I have found bird nest, walnuts and I have no walnuts trees around and always a lot of acorns. I guess it is birds and squirrels bringing the nuts in for me.
M & M - M, I’m what I call a background guy. I watch your videos and enjoy them A LOT! But I look at the background as much as the video context. For example, in today’s video about half way through there sat Daughter Hanna’s car. Nothing unusual right? It’s great to see that Daughter Hanna has followed her parents example on keeping her car clean. Every time we see it it’s clean as a whistle. Good Job M & M and 👍👌to Hanna
I like to work the ditch one or two sticks at a time like you...for the same reason. I can watch the grade better and make sure that I have enough fall as I go.
Did you feel it necessary to glue everything? I've done this same work on smaller properties with lots of connections, and we've never glued the pipes (we use Schedule 40 too). The pipes dry-fit damn tight and gluing just seemed really difficult and unnecessary. The few times I've had to make a change, it was nice to be able to bang the pipes back out of their fittings.
Outstanding job y’all, including mr. Hunter standing by your truck, either supervising, or looking for a ride to get another chicken sandwich! Hello Hunter! Oh yea, someone mentioned ads, well the first one I got was a man telling you how to live to 120 years old.....Y’all have a day, a week, a year and so on. 💚💙💗💜💗
If you would put in a cistern and catch that rain water off the roof you could fill the swimming pool and run your pressure washer, etc. and take the load off your well or better yet, lower your water bill if you have city water. Just a thought.
