While preparing to install a new ignition module, I decided to trim off the excess metal on the cam cover and polish it. While the polish job is not perfect, it is better than the pitted and peeling clear coat that was there.

Oh you got me now. I've never seen a chopped cam cover, like it. Boy did they improve the security on the main sprocket nut on your 93, with the plate. My 90 is (1) 1/4 SHCS next to the nut. Had to replace all that when it broke and left me dead in the road.

I cant take full credit on the cam cover, I got the idea from others. Everyone chops it a little different though. Definitely sounds like an improvement, that's some good info I didn't know. Thanks!

That looks awesome man. And just a tip on the sanding when your sanding try to go in a circular motion and that will help with not seeing the scratches at the higher grit. Just a tip that ive used and works good. Awesome video man keep it up.

When sleet sanding the cover you stopped watching to early at 1500 grit. You should of gone to 2500 or at least 2000 grit. Also using the mother’s on a bench buffer will work much better
@cheesingarage
@cheesingarage 2 года назад
Yea, I definitely rushed it. I have some other parts I am polishing and I will take your advice an go down to 2500. I would love to get a bench buffer at some point, but I am limited on space for now. One day! Thanks for watching and for the tips!

So what do you do with the hole on the bottom towards the front?? I think it’s lined up in the cover w/the #4 cam front exhaust. Does Oil drip out of that hole in the cover or is that a breather hole or something thats cast in the cover?? I’ve seen vids where people Tig weld that hole up. Why? What’s it for. Does it affect anything cutting cover down & leaving hole on bottom of cover unplugged and open?
@cheesingarage
@cheesingarage Год назад
Good catch! Yes, oil will leak out of that hole and it needs to be plugged. I will be covering this in an upcoming video

Hi how do you remove the case from the start. I try to get my gesr case off at my sportster 883 -95
@cheesingarage

Make sure that the front cylinder is at TDC, that will keep the pressure off of the cams

What does the vacuum 90° fitting go too..

You didnt have issues installing the cam cover back on? I heard people have difficulty sometimes due to misalignment
@cheesingarage
@cheesingarage 6 месяцев назад
I didnt have any issues, I think a lot of people forget to set the engine to TDC before removing/reinstalling.
@Smallworldcycles

Did you have any issues getting the cover back on? Mines off and cut but for the life of me can’t get it back on.
@cheesingarage
@cheesingarage 2 года назад
I didn't have any issues but it is a tight fit. Make sure you lube up the areas where the cams ride. Once you have everything lined up you might need to tap it with your fist to work it on, but you don't want to be pounding on it either. If you still cant seem to get it, you can use a phone and a flashlight to record a video looking into the gap around the cover to see what's stopping you/not lined up. Hopefully this helps, good luck!

@@dephkhan1833 That was some engine assembly lube. Here is a link to the one I have: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HBNVSK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

@@baremetalmachine933 That's a good tip! I had mine at TDC for the ignition install that I was doing next (you can see the timing mark at 54 seconds). I didn't realize the push rods would push the cams off axis but that definitely makes sense.
@Scummy_shovel

Looks good. But you could have trimmed all the way up to the bolts and gave it a little shape.
@cheesingarage
@cheesingarage 5 месяцев назад
Thanks! That was my original plan, but then I got the idea to leave a little more on the bottom. I like the look, but looks are always subjective

Isn't there a risk of those gears falling off when you remove the cam cover? It looks way better this way!
@cheesingarage
@cheesingarage Год назад
Those are your cams, so you would have to pull them out about an inch before they would fall, but you are correct in that they are not held in by any additional fasteners. As long as you pull the cover off straight and gently, you shouldn't have any issues.
@Scummy_shovel
@Scummy_shovel 6 месяцев назад
And the older years I think 05 and older you have a bolt behind the ignition cover you need to remove or you will pull a cam with it lol
