Man, I have scoured RU-vid for this year, 1999, and all are either the 3.0 or newer models. Totally different setups. Although yours is a bit earlier it's the same exact setup. Thank you

Awesome video! A huge help for me. I felt lost when I realized my power steering hose was weeping from the compressed fitting near the valve cover. Now I know how to reach the difficult end and the proper wrench and size. Yes if that fitting is rounded off, it's a disaster. Great camera work.

I'm amazed at your ability to get your arm down there to get to the fitting. I could not get my forearm in far enough to do anything. I was changing out the crossmember due to a curb hit and ended removing the lines after dropping the crossmember down a few inches. 96 accord vtec4. Thanks for your videos !

I had plenty of marks on my arms afterwards it was definitely a tight fit. Whenever you alter the positioning of suspension components especially the steering rack which sets the toe. Make sure you get your alignment checked improper toe will destroy tires very quickly.

Excellent! Yup, I had the clamp that holds down the bushing to the crossmember off and the connection fitting started to leak. I’m assuming from vibration. Honda probably found that during testing.

I'd love to see a video of a 6th gen 4 cylinder accord. The position of the flared end is a nightmare. Its facing towards the wheel and there is no room

+1 on using OEM parts. I got a cheap pressure hose for my integra and the thread on the bolt got stripped when I was installing it. Definitely recommend the OEM, which uses hardened metal and overall better quality materials.

Wow, I just spent an hour fighting to get a wrench onto the bottom of my power steering hose. I'm glad you said get it loose before you do anything else. I may have to drop the cross member and rack to get mine loose. I still don't know how you managed to get yours changed. Thanks for the video.

See if you can get the return line off before dropping the cross member. If that flare fitting won't budge either disconnect the rubber hose from the short length of steel line going into the rack it's held on by a wire hose clamp. That way you'll only have to deal with 1 flare fitting while the rack is still tethered to the vehicle. Don't know what the engineers were thinking when they provided such limited access to the rack lines. Must be the same people who thought the location of the fuel filter was a good idea.

ok, for anyone else who has problems with this here is what I did. undo the nuts that hold the master cylinder to the booster. Next gently pull the master cylinder off the mounting studs and move to the side of the car about 1/2 an inch. Next borrow a friend and his flare nut wrench, and put the wrench onto the fitting. now get your friend to hold the wrench while you find a short length of pipe or electrical conduit, and a hammer. place the pipe against the wrench and tap until the wrench moves. Then follow the video. We barbequed hot dogs after it was all back together. It seemed like the right thing to do.

Yep that's true. The engineers put that clamp there for a specific reason. And that reason is. That spot is where as turns out to be exactly dead center the exact place to put it as to make it impossible to get the one single bolt out that screws up the entire replacement of a simple hydraulic line. As always engineers perpetually do the opposite of what makes sense. 🥴

My pressure lines after 214k would not come off had to cut them be prepared for this. once i got the rack out they still wouldn't loosen until i torched them. Still cheap pressure line 6 was $38 "6 and the pump line was $44 both honda oem.

The high-pressure power steering line is not connected where it is on this video on my 1996 Honda Accord EX. I could see the pressure sensor connected underneath the car, but appears as the connection goes down onto the steering rack. I can feel it, but I cannot see it. I’m not sure how I’m going to get to it so that I can disconnect it because I can’t see it.

I don’t think I would use the power steering fluid to lubricate the O-ring, I would use silicone grease.

Thanks! For the videos, a couple of questions, how do you manage getting the high pressure line off and on without bending out position the metal tube end and nut mounting into the rack? And also potentially damaging the tube nut thread? Because it's a tight as hell space to maneuver the mounting tube and nut between the rack and frame and mid rack fluid line?

Idk how you got your hand down there. Im doing the rack and I cant seme to access the 2 hardlines on the bottom side as there is literally no room. And from the top i can just barely get the wrench on but its too crowded and not enough space to get the torque needed to break it loose. Its annoying lol

Great Video, My Mechanic tried but failed to remove that trouble some, he had to cute the metal part of the hose and the actual nut...all that is left is the rest of the nut that connects to rack and pinion...is there anyway to HACK the hose to that part? What other way can we try to take off that nut? Please help

Doesnt the end that goes to the rack have an oring? Mine is leaking from that end, I took it out and there isnt an o-ring there. Its as tight as it goes so should I put an oring there?

No that's a flare fitting it's a metal to metal seal. When dealing with high pressure hydraulic fluid it's best not to substitute parts. If it's leaking and it's tight either the flare mating surface on the rack is damaged or the flare on the line is damaged.

02 Accord - I have noticed some leaks from the line connected to steering rack , since there are 2 lines so I have to check and find out which one is leaking, also I saw bot the flare nut are rust, it might be a problem to move the line, any suggestions. I checked on line for the aftermarket Power Steering Pressure Hose, the package is including an O-ring, is it for the pump joining or for the switch? If the o-ring for the pump joining , then I have to purchase switch o-ring separately? Thank you.

If there is only one o-ring it is likely for the joint between the pressure line and the pump. The rack uses flare fittings which are a metal to metal seal so no o-rings are needed there. If the metal line is in bad shape you can always cut it off flush with the flare nut and use a socket to remove it. If the nut rounds off use a stripped bolt extractor socket.

Where do you get the O ring and what size for the pressure switch? My Honda has very stiff steering and when I turn the wheel, left or turning it back from right to left to straighten wheel it makes a clunk every like quarter or half turn, sometimes I can feel it in the pedals. It doesn’t do it if it’s cold out and the car just started driving but after it warms up a bit the clunking comes back as well as stiffer steering. Any ideas on what it could be?

Got the o-ring from the dealer. As for the clunk check the front wheels for play at 12 and 6 and 9 and 3 with the vehicle on jack stands. Worn suspension parts can cause that issue. I'm sure I've done a video on it.

Bushougoma the wheels have no play while moving them 12 and 6 and 9 and 3. Suspension seems fine, I just hope it’s not damaged in the teeth of the rack and pinion and have to replace the whole steering rack. Thanks tho, your videos are great and help a lot.

Put a bolt extractor socket onto the rounded flare nut to remove it.

Question, the power pressure hose on my Acura rsx 05 leaks, I turned wheels all the way to one side and saw leak myself, why does ps reservoir stays full? I mean the ps fluid level stays ok, between min and max levels. How is it possible? Mahalo

If you're sure it's PS fluid the leak must be very small and the level will drop over time.

I see power pressure line leaking and I have a new one to change just need that flare nut wrench. The leak is definitely not a small one so what I noticed the fluid in the reservoir will actually go low while driving for a while and the wheel got more stiff but when I turn off the engine the reservoir is getting full again. Any suggestions? Thank you

It was purchased from the dealer. When this video was made the price difference between the dealer and aftermarket part wasn't drastic but the price has gone up considerably recently. An aftermarket part now costs half what the dealer charges.
