One thing I have learned from halter breaking colts is to use a lead shank at least twice the normal length. You are less likely to lose the rope which just encourages them to try it again. Plus you are less likely to engage in a tug of war. Way easier to give light pressure and instant release at the first sign of compliance.
Got 4 minis 2 weeks ago, got halters on them then, tried halter rope today, same as you, they broke free out of my hands. Going to do this everyday as I train them. Have to separate them. 1 at a time. Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks.
Yes this is vrry realistic just how they behave! Head down to protect it body shaking so you shouldnt touch them when they tremble...excellent advice just one thing this pair are so very wild pethaps it wiuld be better to put the nervous grey donkey the one that had the accident and jumped the coral rails, better to out him with a less nervous one?
Jennifer Eadie They’ve been doing it for 6000 years. Their ability to carry more weight in proportion to their size has a lot to do with their robust bone structure. Donkeys also know their limits and won’t work themselves to the point of breaking down as a horse will.
