I have a set of Mizuno Mp-37 and all of the feedback from those clubs is the sweet-spot is closer to the heel vs the middle. Thnks for explaining what this means..

Matt, I have noticed for years that I tend to strike my irons toe side consistently. I have also felt the difference when I hit closer to the hosel and it feels much more solid with a slight draw. This video helps me understand why. Thank you!

This is Great advice! Question though. Is the handshake thing just a feel? When are swinging and releasing through the ball I cannot see that handshake. I understand the speed of the swing but it appears your right hand has overtaken your left hand before they appear on your left side. And higher than your handshake position. I will definitely be trying this!

Thx, MSG! I tried it this afternoon and it added 5-10 yards to my pitch distances. Gonna have to recalibrate the old distance clock and edit my yardage book.

I was told to backswing over my right bicep. That helped me with a target on my back swing.

My pga coach says to keep the heel off the ground and hit chips off the toe because the heel tends to catch and cause big issues.

Does this work in reverse. I fight heel shots often. If I feel the club face open, will I catch it closer to the toe at impact?

Matt. This might be a real eureka moment for me as my 50 yards and chips are just laughable it’s really that bad. Nearly all the tuition videos talk about staying connected but for us weekend warriors that’s going to pull the club in. Wish it wasn’t rain in the UK. Does this work on short chip shots i.e. back and up? I also have a lot of leg height loss in my chips. Any good drills? Apart from a new hobby😂

Truth. The actual "sweet spot" of any iron is closer to the heel due to the added weight of the hosel. Mfgs have tried to correct this somewhat but will never completely rid it.

Just simply not true. Older blade models were slightly heel bias. But not anymore. If you pull and measure horizontal cg on modern iron heads they're extremely close to the geometrical center of the iron. With game improvement irons cg starts to get toe side bias.

If you do not like where someone's marker is you may ask them to move it. However, sometimes a ball hit offline will carom off a marker and go in the cup. Up to you.

Takes a significant amount of weight to move the center of gravity of an iron head. It really doesn't matter. Just do your best to hit the geometrical center of the face and you'll be fine.

Something in my game will not allow me to hit irons near the heel! Ive tried moving the dang near to my feet and then I'll just rotate and come over the ball and still strike off the toe! Lol

I feel like this video should be taken with a grain of salt, I believe most modern wedges have deliberate weight allocation to help move the CG closer to the middle. In some case, like “game improvement” wedges they do have a CG at center. I think this advice and the drills all still rings true though.

CG closer to the hosel side was always true with older clubs(wedges,irons) until multi material became a possibility, weights, and screws allowed CG manipulation.

I can tell you I'm hitting 4-wedges 100% better after doing these drills. I've been slightly off all season and I took the 2 hours to do these drills and it got me back to flushing my irons instead of weak mis hit shots I've been hitting
