The "Big Guff" is a 96" radio controlled model designed by Walt Good and winner of the 1938 - 1940 Nationals, USA. This fine example, which was powered by a 62 Laser was build and flown by David Davis at Cocklebarrow Vintage Plane Rally on 20 August 2023. If flew beautifully despite quite windy weather, a shear joy to watch and film. Plans and further details of the plane can be found on OuterZone - outerzone.co.uk/plan_details....
A Big thank you to David Davis

I have that plane powered by a YS 90. I am using the 9' wing from a Dallaire Sportster. I would be scared to fly in that much wind.

Mark, love the channel, wait for new content. I too greatly enjoy the vintage era models, I build all my own airplanes. Mark, would you consider vlogging an event at Cocklebarrow, you are so fortunate to live near by. It’s on my bucket list to get to the October gathering. Anyway, thanks for the great content.

Hi there, thank you for the very kind comment, so pleased you like my channel and the vintage stuff, there's lots more to come. I will be posting a longer video from the recent Cocklebarrow rally in a few days, showing lots more of the planes, both on the ground and flying. I am also hoping to be back there for the next one, which I believe is the 24 September, but only if the weather is ok as its a 5-6 hr journey for me. Hope to see you there. Thanks again.

If you do build it Ted please check that the plan view of the fuselage is square. I had to dismantle two fuselages before I realised the fault. In the end I simply drew a long and a short line at right angles on the back of the plan and worked off that.

Fine video Mark, thanks for filming it. I particularly like the shot of my dog cowering under the van at 17 seconds! Shame it was so windy.

Thank you David, it was great to meet you and see that wonderful plane, which flew lovely, a real joy to watch and sounded amazing with that Laser engine.

A model I have always wanted to build. There is a very good video on the tube on Bill and Walter Good the designers of Guff.

If you do build it Terry please check that the plan view of the fuselage is square. I had to dismantle two fuselages before I realised the fault. In the end I simply drew a long and a short line at right angles on the back of the plan and worked off that. BTW, the Good brothers produced both a Guff and a Big Guff. The Guff was a six foot wingspan proof of concept free-flight model. The Big Guff was, as far as I am aware, the first model aeroplane to be designed specifically for radio control.

Hi David. Thanks for the heads up on the plan. And yes not only the first RC model but I believe they built the radio gear as well. Real pioneering stuff.
