For a vehicle like that I would have a real good look at the frame (everything underneath). If that checks out as rusty but still safe and the engine runs well it may be worth getting on the road again. Is the trans condition an unknown? That could be a make or break on the decision. It really comes down to how much you want to spend to get it going again. And hope it doesn't constantly nickel and dime you after the initial work is done. This past summer my 96 Explorer started slipping on the 2-3 shift. We kept driving it. Then it sprung a small radiator leak and started having odd electrical issues. I ended up donating it to wounded warriors and they towed it away. I didn't want to deal with it any longer. Thing was rusted out pretty bad also.
Good information! I'm not sure of the condition of the transmission, I know it goes in gear, but without working brakes I will never know....im still not sure what path to take....I think it might be salvaged.
oh she's crusty! I know people that have fixed worse, but this is the reason I drove to montana to get one instead of buying one here in michigan. I guess it all depends on how bad the subframe is and if you want to tackle that job. Good luck whatever way you go!
