Sound Concept in Nanuet NY was given the opportunity to upgrade the factory radio to a flip-out 7" screen. The Pioneer will allow for Sirius/ XM radio, Bluetooth, backup camera and USB to connect and charge. There is little modification and rewiring to bring your sports car up to date. We kept the OEM speakers and amplifier. The radio was wired directly to the harness

Did you keep the Bose speakers and amplifier or did you upgrade those as well? If the Bose system was retained how did you connect them to the new radio?

This is really nice but I replaced my defective unit with a refurbished OEM unit. because I wanted to keep the car original as much as possible. If not for that I would go this route.

Would love this in my 600SL, but I don’t like the screen when I’m driving to keep the car’s original aesthetic. Will the music still play if I fold the screen in while I’m driving?

The radio will play with the screen locked in.

Can you share any model info/details for the back up camera? Was it part of a package or separate?

Good afternoon. The backup camera is a standard Echomaster trunk lip mount. It is connected to the video input of the Pioneer Screen.

Bad choice in deck. There are several modern 1.5 DIN screens with about a 5.8''' viewing display (and wireless Carplay, etc) that would fill that space nicely without covering up the AC controls.

I have a 2001 sl500 I went to a guy to get a unit like this he said my speakers are fiberoptic and it won't be compatible. Is this true ? I don't think a bunch of difference between a 98 and 2001

The amplifier is not fiber-optic but proprietary to the OEM radio. It needs to be bypassed. The larger door speakers will need a small amplifier. The other speakers can be driven from the new radio. I do sell a double DIN dash kit and keep the cup holders operational.

Jordan, good morning. It is not too difficult. The rear trunk panels are removed and follow the factory wiring. It does take time.

The Pioneer radio does not look anything like the Mercedes radio that came out of the dash. If your a purist about your SL than this is not for you. BUT if useable 2022 technology is required this is the way to go. There is no modification to the vehicle in the video and can go back to the stock OEM appearance.

I will agree with you, but for those who need a backup camera and a screen to view your phone contacts there is a compromise. We try to make these compromises as painless as possible. Thank you for viewing and commenting.
