Preppers are NOT who you think they are! Prepare to have your perspective on preparedness reshaped as we sit down with Nate from Canadian Prepper, a voice of reason and guidance in the world of survivalism and self-reliance. Amid the chaos of a global pandemic, Nate's insights on the surge in demand for trustworthy information over basic survival skills and gear reviews underscore the complexities that content creators face, especially when navigating the realms of censorship and demonetization. His dedication to providing authentic analysis is a beacon for those seeking to understand and adapt to the uncertainty of our times.
Venturing further into the heart of readiness, our chat traverses the landscape of the Bugout Roll, Nate's invention catering to the organized prepper. Yet, it's not just about the gear; it's about the evolution from simple emergency bags to the grand vision of a self-sustainable homestead, a testament to the depth of the prepping community's journey. We confront the post-pandemic proliferation of exploitative companies, the stigma of prepping, and the indispensable role of community in forging a bulwark against burgeoning global threats like climate change and cyber warfare.
Rounding out our discussion, we tackle the societal vulnerabilities laid bare by the pandemic, emphasizing the necessity of preparedness for personal freedoms and societal resilience. Nate's perspective on the preparedness of the wealthy versus the resourcefulness of indigenous communities offers a profound take on global instability and technological advancements. Our exploration doesn't just inform-it empowers you to take ownership of your preparedness in a world where personal responsibility is the cornerstone of collective security. Join us for this profound episode that will leave you contemplating the role of preparedness in an unpredictable future.

My husband is disabled. We are both in our seventies. We made a decision to leave our homestate due to cost of living being way out of control a year and a half ago. We bought a small homestead in another state and I began gardening in Rangeland buckets. They were more cost effective than building beds with wood. I am in the process of collecting a water filtration system and have stockpiled medicines and other items we will need in the event of any catastrophic situation. Water catchment is next and we have enough defense to protect ourselves from unwanted intruders. If necessary we have enough room for all our grown kids and their families. Thank you Shawn for teaching me what I needed to do to become prepared. People have called me gullible, paranoid, stupid, and crazy for all the steps I have taken toward our self reliance. I call us prepared.

I’m 79 and my husband has passed. I have seen your site, Mr Prepper. I’m on a cane and can’t be a real Prepper after I fell a year ago. Life changed in an instant. I do have people I trust and people will assist me a little. I actually assist those older, lonelier, or as handicapped as I am or more. I planned ahead and moved from a very large city to a closet of a small town. It sure is a good thing I did. But at 79 yo, I need a job because no $.

@@patriciatennery3021-- My neighbour started preserving fruit, beets, veggies, etc. and would send out a notice to the area, stating the price. She quickly sold out. Another 2 couples got together and began making chicken, beef, and turkey pot pies. Individual/couple size. They were great when you didn't want to cook or needed a hot lunch. I used to order them 25 at a time and keep them in the freezer. Maybe you could earn money this way... or maybe you sew and could make grandchildren clothes??

And even though I’ve turned things around and thrived, part of me still desires to live a lot slower and simpler. Life has become such a commercial. And preparing for injury. Knowing first aid (take actual courses and get cerified) is vital as our healthcare system gets stretched thinner and thinner. There is so much you can do to prevent long term issues in those hours you have to wait for an ambulance or in the emergency room.

Fear started my prepping journey almost 4 yrs ago. While others bought toilet paper I bought rice beans and water. I had no idea what I was doing but soon found prepping channels. For awhile I felt this relentless drive to gather food and water. Then after about a year I switched to thinking long term. Increase the veggie garden, save seeds, learn to pressure and water bath can food, dehydrate foods I have grown, start stocking medical supplies. Preparedness is a journey and it is work but it’s probably the most rewarding work I have ever done. If I feel worn out in one area of prepping I start something different, maybe printing off instructions for everything from soap making to bread making, maybe its reading up on treatment of medical emergencies. Wherever you are in life learning to be self reliant will give you a sense of accomplishment and it truly helps mitigate fear.

I for one appreciate that Shawn is taking the time to reach out and be social and pull important information from everyone and everywhere he can. And in turn we learn off it as well. When you see the world pulling back from our “promise to pay “ concept and start to question if we can even pay for our own reckless spending you gotta kinda see what could be possible. And it’s a lot different from what we are living now. You don’t have to go full doom and gloom but at least pay attention to the climate of current events and keep your finger on the pulse.😂🤷‍♂️

I'm also 78 and a widower and a bit more of a survivalist for some 40 years. My only concern physically is that I'm on a blood thinner and Medicare doesn't pay for amounts of meds to stock up on. I might make it a year. I don't follow Jesus mainly because I have been studying the Bible a lot. I am concerned about the rise of Christian nationalism and a possible civil war. Most people won't last very long if the grid goes down. I live in the northern Rockies and game might last a few weeks. I will shelter in place. If bad guys wanted to take your supplies, how could you stop them? Several years ago, my neighbor and I talked about this problem and there is a fair solution but it gets harder the older one gets.

To me, prepping is a fantasy. If the world crashes, those living this dream of living agriculturally independantly may last a few days longer, but they would be just as doomed. At the very ideal best, they might survive on the edge of subsistance for a few years. If society dies, we all die. What I mainly don't subscribe to in this convo, is the suggestion that society is a house of cards that can and is about to come down any time now because someone somewhere sneezes the wrong way. Humanity has long proven to be resilient. Solutions will come because people are creating them, as a a society.

You might think so, but there are examples in other countries of what you predict and it goes differently everywhere due to a number of circumstances. Look at South American countries, or South African suidlanders especially. Suidlanders are a fantastic example of doomsday prepping not being only for doomsday, but also for political issues that are a part of fifth generational war. Your concept of warfare is outdated. Update it with the concept of fifth generational warfare and you will see how most preppers that are serious conceptualize the coming problems. Fifth gen war is “sub warfare, but far far more than regular competition”. My food preps are for doomsday but function as an everyday emergency fund that lightens the load on my financial emergency fund. The ammo I use is stockpiled above my normal peacetime amount, but not by much.

Thank you Shawn for doing this interview. I'm sure there is many out there like me that know what your saying is our reality and what's to come, but we're also overwhelmed and a little scared to be honest. I have an off grid cabin, also a place with a natural spring. In many ways I'm a few steps up from most, but as a older woman, it's the steps I still need to make that are worrisome. The hard times are creeping up, at some point, all will realize their not prepared, I hope I'm not one of them. Keep sharing, thank you.

I can honestly say that watching you and CP starting back in early 2019, was what finally prompted us to sell in the city and move off grid to northwestern Ontario and set up our self reliant homestead in the summer of 2020. My wife and I have watched both of you almost since your starts so it was very interesting to watch this podcast. Regarding Shawns biggest fear being a tyrannical govt, you need to study law, legal statutes and its history going back thousands of years. The govt amd every other corporation has to follow common law, maritime law/merchant law, trust law. Read the Canadian acts, learn the hidden language in it. It was my biggest fear but once you know what is really happening, you can very easily put the govt on notice or simply sue them for a remedy.

Well done gentlemen. In addition to a great, logical conversation, what I enjoyed was the fact that no one tried to trump or outdo the other. No I'm tougher and more prepared than anyone conversation. You need to do this on a frequent basis. One of the best I've listened to. You are both level headed and could lead a 2024 Prepardness Conference. There is a real market for what you have to share. If you need speakers, I would participate for no speakers fee. I would just need airfare, lodging and meals. Seriously, you both have a great chemistry. Round table discussions are important.

You could use Texas as an example of the grid going down. It did go down here in 2020-21 in December. Multiple people died from either freezing or trying to get warm they died from carbon dioxide. It was horrible Personally, after Hurricane Ike, we went two weeks with no electricity and 10 days without running water, in September, one of our hottest months. We managed well because we were prepared. We had water, we cooked outside, etc. Being prepared is the key!
@PreparedOverlander
@PreparedOverlander 6 месяцев назад
They died because they tried to go about life as usual. They had no idea about moving the entire family to a single room, or putting up a small tent in the living room. Warming a small area is easier than trying to stay warm in an entire house. I made a video using a tent in my basement, a single candle with a clay pot over it. The temp went up about 15 degrees in a matter of an hour, and that was without people being in it.

Actually, 246 people died during that time. They were trying to get warm. Many in their cars, some in their cars in the garages. All kinds of different things. People were just trying to get warm. They lived in apartments, rental homes, etc. It was terrible.

I think that the word 'Agency' and even words like 'Fun' and 'Satisfaction' .. would sell the message more than the .. fear / reality stuff. The reality is there .. but there are other aspects to learning the life skills of past generations. If it's done out of fear .. and the the 'Big Event' never happens .. that's a loss. But, If it is done for the satisfaction of some Autonomy and Traditional Skills Acquirement .. it is not really even relevant if the big bad event ever occurs .. but it it does - You're Ready! ; )

Thank you Shawn & Nate for this interesting conversation & sharing. I've appreciated your points of view & experiences. There is for sure a massive change unfolding on this planet. We are too much and the most of us are unaware of what is going on. Different levels of embodied Souls..."Estote Parati"..... I suppose you know what it means....Life can often be unpredictable. It's up to us to be present and in the Life flow to understand the subtle messages that are addressed to us. Animals and Plants know easily than us how to manage that. That's why as Shawn says, to come back to Nature is so important. I made this choice decades ago, and I'm so blessed even if is not easy to be self reliant and prepped. But it's so full of freedom. This was very helpful, especially the parts where we talk about what people can realistically do to improve their situations if they're not ready to/capable of buying land and building a house in the woods. Build community and mutual self-reliance is the best advice I've heard in years. Start small, involve trustworthy, like-minded people near you. Develop financial security, even if on a small scale. get out of debt. And get out of the city.

This was an interesting video to me. Because Shawn is such a more calm low key approach as Nate obviously is more flamboyant and into the speculative aspect of what is going on in the world. Nate can speculate like no other 😂 but I like the fact that people who might be slightly different can still collaborate and share opinions and talk about things like we used to. And I think everyone is taking a little bit more of a preparation approach to things due to uncertainty. I think everyone is different but we can still learn from others who have different perspectives and approaches to things. Some people may have negative opinions about it but they should really chill out a bit and realize there only opinions. And we all have different ones. My opinion Nate is more into the business of preparedness and Shawn is more of interested on the sustainability of preparedness. But this was a cool video and conversation either way. I enjoy both channels for different reasons. And maybe I’m not as all in and dramatic as someone like Nate, I still appreciate the time he puts into getting his information. And even if I don’t agree with his take all the time I not naive enough to not at least listen and acknowledge why his opinions could be valid. Glad you two got together for this conversation. And appreciate all the time you both put into your craft and channels. Honestly I think you both bring great value and information when it comes to the common sense of what you need to keep on keeping on.

Shawn and Canadian prepper, thank you for this podcast on this topic. It made me look at things in so many ways. You both discussed this topic in such a sensible way and in such a respectful non confrontational way that was wonderful. Politicians, families, and people, in the past, sit down together and would have discussions like this on all topics without all the drama and disrespect when someone thinks differently or disagrees with you and wouldn’t try to force their way on you. They respected people were different ( yes I said that word people today don’t like) and they aren’t always going to agree with you and if they listened with open minds they might Learn some new things. This preparedness is really hard for a widow on her own living off social security! Not much in savings. I do put canned foods back in box in my walkin closet, and put flour, rice, dried beans in freezer. If our grid is taken out, i would lose that. I have physical limitations that prevents me from growing garden. Plus i rent, and they wont allow me to dig up ground. Wished i could do more with less money!😢
