Worked perfectly on my 2005 RCSB 5.3. Black/Yellow/ and then Red w/white stripe. Put the black and yellow together and then did my 3 resets and now the truck starts like it should. Ty for putting up a good video explaining the fix for this common issue!
Omg I just want to thank you soooo much though for your knowledge of this problem I've never done anything mechanical before but with your video I fixed my truck thank you so much you are awesome
Once your truck starts, just unplug the three wires. the security light will stay on but your truck will start every time. Will reset if truck loses all battery power. then do it again.
Thank you so much brother! I pretty much gave my lifted 99 Yukon away for free to be scrapped after I paid $900, $80 tow, fuel pump, weeks of time another $170 tow and bought headers, cherry bombs, for true dual exhaust 38" tires and rims, and turbo and brush guard and bumper and other things that would have gone to waste. I even gave always 3 alpine R 12" subwoofers in a box and everything to go with it. Hopefully I can get myself back
Haha dude thank you so much, I have a 2000 chevy K2500 with a 5.7 in it, the older body style, man I was at my wits end I even replaced the pass lock sensor in the ignition housing, and I just snipped and tied those two wires together and bam it runs great, now I have my plow truck for the winter lol thank you
Thanks for this, I followed your instructions and I can start my 02 Escalade...I was stuck at a storage yard ..gonna give the resistor instructions a try since my speedometer is not working now..
Thank you, just used your info and spliced in a 2200 ohm resistor. Did the passlock reset and my truck starts again with no security light on. Thanks for sharing
@@rickfreeman9530 each different vehicle has a different resistance value, so it's not 2200 ohm's across the board. That is, if you haven't figured this out by now.
@@zachnuketownI'm having same problem although I'm having a bigger problem since I've had this certain problem other than it shutting off as soon as I start it it will also if you don't pump the pedal it's a dead stick won't start just crank every once in a while it gets that sounds as if it wants to start but goes back to cranking , could this still be a security problem considering I have like you replaced everything even all the sensors but the maf and oxygen sensors also I didn't replace the ignition module
Wow bro i fr had my doubts that this would work. i have a 98 c1500 and replaced the vats module itself, ignition cylinder, and ignition wiring harness and still had the same problem, flashing security light it starts but dies after 2 seconds . tried this and after following all steps it fired right up after the 3rd reset thank you so much bro i was so tired of pouring money into my truck. TRY THIS IS WORKS!!!
Dude! My 1999 suburban k2500 constantly would do this, no start. I too replaced the fuel pump and filter and no go. Followed your instructions cut the yellow, orange wires and tied them. Wow, started on first try. Security light even went out right away and doesn’t stay on after starting. Thanks a million for the info. ✌️
So help me out please I feel dumb. When you cut the yellow and orange...which side of the cut wires do you tie together? The two cut ends that come from under the dash or the two cut ends coming from the ignition side? Thanks
@lurpincutting4208 this fixed mine, I bought a passlock bypass kit on Amazon. Its just a connector that has a resistor plugged in one side. Just cut the yellow and orange wires and stuck them in the other side opposite of the resistor. Has started right up every single time
@@joerutherford407the cut wires off the ignition are dead. It’s the 2 off the main harness. Just follow where they came from and it shouldn’t be a problem
So I had a 03 gmc. Had the same dying issue. Noticed that the dome lights, power locks, power windows, and gauges were not working. Tried to connect diagnostic tool. Was not able to communicate with any of the modules. Ran out of ideas. Had to talk to a gm vet. He asked if the radio was aftermarket. It was. He advised to remove the radio. Disconnect the radio and the interface module if it had one. When I unplugged the interface everything started working and the truck started. So if your having this issue before you cut the wires check the radio.
@@briansmith4724 ok thx im in the same issue with a used truck I bought. I changed the battery now the security light came on and wont start and I have only the dumb key also.
2003 Silverado has been fed parts. Then remember that the key chip was glues to ignition area. I found it on the mat and started but new PC did not recognize?! I'll try old PC to see. Probably want to jump the security system out. I sent for 5 ohm resistor and easy connect splice? I guess. Helpful video, Richie ⛵
Id recommend either soldering the resistor in carefully to avoid overheating the resistor or use non insulated butt connectors with heat shink for best results. The whole passlock things a huge problem and it can be caused by a handful of issues which are all decently involved to figure out which is why i tend to bypass rather then properly repair the issue.
Thanks, I soldered and shrunk wrapped a bypass using a Tee splice (without cutting the two left wires on the passlock module?) with a 4.7 ohm resistor from a youtubers same 2003 silverado. I did not check ohms myself so but the security light goes out after cranking. New PCM shows the VIN # and of course the battery is weak!? Cranks but won't start. Sent PCM back to check it. Must I bring it to Chevy dealer? What next? At shop 3 months. Thanx
I have a 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD and am experiencing the same problem. Sometimes my truck runs smooth as glass. Then the next day I try to start it and it dies in 2 seconds. At first I thought it was something mechanical but since it runs perfectly when it runs I knew it must be an electrical problem. When I put the ignition in the first position and let it set for a minute or two it starts right up. I am going to try tightening the electrical connector contacts and wedging it. If that doesn't work I will be bypassing it. Thanks for making this video I really appreciate it.
Getting a used steering column tomorrow from auto-salvage. Going to try changing out the sensor only, then re program the key. Hope it works. 2006 Hummer H3.
I would like to thank you I bought me a real clean low miles 2001 Chevy Tahoe that was been sitting for 2 years it crank but no start no one couldn’t find out what was wrong they checked everything I did everything you did in the video and on the third attempt it fired right up I was full of joy thanks again god bless!
Had same prob on my 99 tahoe. Replaced tumbler housing. 120$ off amazon. Did relearn process and it fired rite up. 7 months of crank and immediately shut off. 650$ in other parts lol. Was the passlock security on the tumbler the whole time. Was just about to sell the Ole girl. All new parts on it now ha ha.
Glad to hear you got it running. These stupid little gm problems drive me nuts, i also own a isuzu trooper thats Gm and has all the same little issues as my truck.
@@zachnuketown man I had no clue what passlock security was. Without videos like yours it would still be sitting. So many wtf moments. New fuel filter and fuel pump. No crank. Wtf. New distributor plugs and wires. No crank. Wtf. New spider injector. No crank wtf and on and on. So frustrating
@@stonestalker1590 Its terrible but thats how cars are. I had a similar issue in my Nissan that was caused by the battery going too low and messing with all the electronics which i see all the time in hondas but i never even thought of it on a nissan. Long story short spent 2 months doing diagnostics on a car that just needed a full reset (pulling battery and connecting the cables together for a couple hours) guess thats why im a laborer hahaha.
So this worked for you? Iv done the whole ignition system and a few grounds and new pump and even had mechanics send me towards evap but problem persists
I want to add that apparently, at least on my 05 5.3, once you do this procedure it forever defeats the security system. Turns out I had a bad starter, but I thought maybe my bypass had come loose so I’ve had the wires unplugged while the key is out, while the key is on, everything and it never reverts back.
I FIXED IT!!! I don't know what caused the problem, but I know where it originates so now, I'm having trouble duplicating the problem. 2005 Tahoe. Follow the Parking Brake Release cable as it curves around a small black box. Moving that cable off the box made everything come back on but eventually it went off. Giggled the box and it came back on. Pulled the box out of its holder and giggled the connectors and then put it back in. The pressure of that cable against the corner of that box could have disconnected something. I'm going to loosen the bolts holding that cable to get it off that box and see if that keeps it working. I'm inside now trying to look up what that box is as it is Not the BCM.
@@heavyhauler213 Sorry. it's the same old story. The previous owner had the HVAC duct regulator thingy changed which required the removal of the dashboard. When it was reassembled, the mechanic didn't put the cabin control unit firmly back in its bracket and when I made sharp turns, it would slide against that brake cable and somehow short out. I pressed the unit back into the bracket and the problem never came back. The same thing happened to my Flasher relay. Sometimes the flashers would just die. I cleaned the fuse of corrosion but that didn't help. I went to remove the relay, which videos showed I might have to pry it out, but it just fell out when I touched it. I pushed it back in and the problem was solved. I have found that most problems have originated because of corrosion or loose items.
@@stevedriscoll2539 I don't know. It's a small rectangular box inside a galvanized bracket, above your shins. It slides in like a VHS tape. It controls everything inside the vehicle.
It worked out of the 2 days it only tried not to start like when vats kicks but just shut the key off and try again and starts right up better than sitting for ten min
Help! I got a 99' Suburban with a crank won't start. I got a solid security light that won't disappear with the GM 33 minutes reprogramming process. I have replaced all kind of parts, got spark, compression, fuel psi, timing is good. I am about to get the VATS out once I fugure how to get one more plastic off. Might this be a possible fix?
Had this problem on my 2000 chevy siverado changed the fuel pump on it first then read on this passlock is a big problem on these trucks chevy should have recalled this years ago
@@zachnuketown I agree with you I drove an old squarebody for years and years virtually trouble free, I have a 99 as well and it is junk compared to the old one
To permanently fix this issue you replace the passlock module on the ignition and have it reprogrammed. This bypass with correct resistor completely bypasses the junk GM ignition security system including the security light.
Yes security light flashing, engine tries to start but will not start. Leave key in on position (dashboard lights on) for 10-11minutes turn off and turn on again it should start. You may have to repeat these steps up to 4 times in a row to completely clear the security.

Hey brother can you make a video about where the antitheft module is me and have the same truck I need to know because I want to install a viper keyless remote alarm
Man this all a sudden started happening to my 02 Silverado and the security light only comes on with door open but seems like when me or my boys mess with the lock it won’t start. Last time it sat for 24hours and it fired up and been fine til yesterday and now I’ve tried everything but this but trying to now waiting on the tow dude.
Was wondering if by chance you know if this Works to bypass the vin locked ecm? I spun bearings in my over rated 6.0 in my 2500hd. I put a 5.3 in it that will eventually be on low boost but for now I just need to drive it NA. I do have the computer that came originally with the 5.3. I've been worried the same as you to hook it up it's now running ungodly rich on the 6.0 computer. Would love to have it be more efficient. It's probably worse than the 6.0 wad on gas. Lol
I had the same issue with my 05 classic. I bought an Amazon ignition for 40 bucks. The key is a resistor in the VATS system. Putting a new ignition in you get a new key too and it fixed my problem.
Did you have to take off both battery cables and jump them together to drain down residual electricity in the system before connecting the two wires, yellow and orange and then trying the key sequence?
Mine is doing almost the same thing , no codes or spark and no injector pulse , . I’ve seen cats come back on several times for no reason . I’m very glad that you had this I think you might be right but what kind of reading am I looking for before I cut
@@tristenoberlender9685 The TBC (truck body computer) fuse powers the body control module (BCM). They rarely go bad. Mine was corroded inside not blown. It's the fuse box under the hood.
My security light has always flashed with the engine off and door shut for years ive had the truck.....only finding this vid now bc im having a lock cylinder or ignition switch problem....has this been a problem for me?
Just did my 01 Avalanche , now my odo, my gas gauge and the temp gauge are not working , It also seems like the transmission is weak and I'm having to upshift from 1 to 2 to 3 then D ? oh well at least the truck will run until I get my parts in : (
My 2000 silverado 5 3 wouldn't start today, the security light was flashing and the battery light. I took the plastic off the column and somebody had already worked on the orange and yellow wires and had put silicone over the plug end where it plugs up. I broke the connector off on the column, will I have to replace the steering column to get it to run again? I'm in need of some help thanks in advance
So my security light doesn’t stay on, but it still doesn’t start. It will be on only when the door is opened and the key isn’t turned over, did this thing three times and held out for 10 seconds. Tried it the third time after waiting 10 seconds after turning the switch off and still didn’t work
I have a similar issue with my 99 Sierra 2500 6.0L that just started yesterday. I only plate and drive this thing once a year for a month, but use the same battery every time (fully charged). Mine starts easy enough but now when I shut if off sometimes the beeping and security light stay flashing and I can't get it to turn off without unhooking the battery. It's intermittent though. Currently the security light is staying on (solid) after I turn off the truck, but no beeping. I still have to unhook the battery cable to get it to turn off. No issues starting though...yet. I do think my fuel pump needs to be replaced (has for several years now). There's also an intermittent engine light that comes on that indicates O2 sensor or fuel pump, and it does sputter going up inclines, but runs fine otherwise. Any ideas?
My 2005 gmc envoy danali. Cranks but no start. Mechanic replaced throttle sensor and assembly. Cost me 400. Still the same problem. I can start it 2 to 3 times beginning in the morning then it stops starting. Cranks no start. If I let it set for about 4 to 5 hrs it will start.
What if the security light does not come on at all my truck starts and dies immediately please help have already replaced the fuel pump and the tps but dont have the money to keep buying parts and not fix the truck my security light will not come on at all even after i replaced the whole information panel i have asked soo many ppl for help the truck is a 2001 8.1 liter 2500 hd
Im going to try this on my 2000 Tahoe my husband always tells me not to be messing with anything lmao. But Ive already fixed several things on this tahoe with help from someone like you! I just need to know with the security light staying on will it cause any issues that it will not pass emissions when I have to have that done? I don't need him telling me I told you so! Thank you for your help. Charlotte
It should still pass emissions but if you would like to remove the security light after doing the reset use a multimeter (can get one for under $10 at most box stores or parts stores) and measure the resistance between the two wires i point out in the video then find a resistor thats as close to what you got from the two wires and wire that in between. It sounds complicated but its really simple if you take your time and stay calm.
You also want to be sure this is your issue before deciding to do this as with any RU-vid tutorial repair. Any time my mother has an issue she googles the symptoms which isnt always a good thing if you dont know much about cars. Its like when you get a cold and start googling symptoms and end up thinking you have aids
@@zachnuketown Thank you for replying. The security light kept flashing so I used the fob that wants to work when it wants to work lol. then I used the key and kept unlocking the door. The security light quit flashing. The tahoe started right up. Im very nervous to drive it anywhere I don't want to get stranded. I also noticed the door handle from the outside key hole is possibly broken from the inside making it loose it pushes in as thow the clip might be broke holding the key hole in place. Maybe I should replace the door handle and just not use the fob anymore? Or can this just start messing up again? Isn't the fob what sets the alarm? Or the key sets it as well? I usually only use this to pull my boat but I don't want to be in the mountains and this happen to where the tahoe won't start.
I have a q i have a 98 gmc sierra i also jabe the same problem having to reset but not all the time mayne like 2 times a mnth but what i am having more of a problem with is it wont start without me pressing on the gas pedal several times while im starting it as it says in the manual but sometimes that doesnt work it jusy cranks but not start sometimes it acts like it wants to start but goes back to cranking my q is can this still be a security issue ?
Cut and joined the black and yellow wires and left the red one intact. I screwed up the sequence so I started again. During the second ten minute in the on position my battery died. I jumped it with another battery and started again but the second battery didn’t have enough charge I guess because it would only click on the second attempt to start it before another 10 minutes . Glad there is always tomorrow.
Did you have a no start?? I replaced my multifunction switch, (blinker and wiper switch) and now my truck dies immediately after starting.. the 30 min reset isn't working.. Security light is constant with no key in ignition, does not stop flashing after 10-20 min with key turned to on. I am getting the battery and security alternately flashing. Just replaced battery. I am currently stuck. Ran fine until I replaced that switch. I definitely connected everything correctly and did not touch anything else.
did this on 2000 sierra no luck, starts right up and dies everytime, I did notice it has a remote starter hooked in, which I know nobody has used in about 8 years, also notice headlights and dome not working! but parking light do, any help would be useful, it has been scanned and come back with p1626
