Good timing to watch this. I was plating against a 4 the other day. His dinks were all steep cross court angles. I was getting them all back same way they came. But my feet were getting tangled up a few times. I probanly looked like one of those air clowns flailing back and forth. I was getting the job done but it was inefficient. Good lesson.

Love this and it is very helpful to designate the different change of weight patterns in pickleball. I was a professional ballet dancer and have taught ballet for 38 years. Just starting to process the combinations of foot work. It is simpler than I thought but really helpful to see it in action. When I first started my teachers said my feet were "too busy"! Now I see that you use a side step initiated by your opposite direction foot. Ie, that leg is loaded in order to create the power or at least impetus to move (like the transition in a drive or serve). Then I do one from ballet which is called "chassé" which the lead foot is actually in the direction you want to (opposite the shuffle), then bring my feet together in a sideways hop. The advantage is that you move faster and when you land your glutes and quads are loaded for action. There is some kind of neuro muscular reaction that makes this advantageous for response. Secondly lunges are obvious choices, but I need to move my feet more and do the shuffle or chassé! Guess I get lazy-- thanks for the reminder Justin!!

I just started knowing pickleball but since I have played tennis, ping pong, badminton, and racket ball all along and realized pickleball is really a derivative of all of the above and much lighter. If anyone have played one or more of the above sports, then you only need to go back to your previous experiences of those sports and sink in. Then get into the court and practice from what you already know. The video here represented the footwork of badminton. From some other RU-vid clips, the mid-line attack represented the strategy of tennis double (and lobbing). I see that volley practice is essential in this sport and it's a staple for tennis too..

Your verbal explanation and following demonstration really showed how it's done. I also just realized how much I cross-step. Well done, excellent video! I know you most likely have your videos planned out, but I'm learning to be aggressive and attack the ball. Can you create another excellent video on anticipation and court coverage for opponents' shot selections (I've heard it referenced as court angles, court coverage, etc.)? Ex: My partner and I hit the ball here, so our opponent will most likely hit it here or has to hit it here.

Briones, this was an excellent lesson. I’m on week 3 of learning Pickleball and for a person who has NEVER played any sports I must say I’m progressing well as I’ve been told by better players. 😊 I’m playing this morning and I can’t wait to put into practice the first 2 foot actions. The third foot work I’m a little nervous about because I was told NEVER move back for a shot.🥴 But after watching you, your back movement is more like a shift of your body. I can do that, I’m sure. Thanks for this Awesome lesson. You ROCK!💃🏽

Jordan thank you for your videos. I have learned a lot of pickleball skills from your videos. Skills are an important part of pickleball. Could also do a video on instincts in pickleball. I am at a point where I need to complement my skill with what I call the instincts of the game. For an example. when my partner goes to one area of the court I cover his or her area. Another instinct is if a ball is going to be in or outside the court. There many more could you please do a video on instincts. thank you Ben

I'm 6'5" and I often strive _way_ to hard to never step into the kitchen if there's any chance at all to dig for a volley (which, for me, is quite a lot). This controlled lunge step in and reverse lunge step back out is a good fundamental. I hate to get trapped in the kitchen as the ball heats up, and this is a good way to get your feet reliably planted onside again after stepping in. Maybe this will help quell my excessive digging. Time will tell.

I was trying to watch your paddle movement and found the paddle spin super distracting. I suffer from poor concentration skills, if my partner starts moving as I am hitting or opponents moving or making noise seems enough to distract me. Any tips to overcome this? Next time you do this demo, try to do a portion of it without paddle spin so we can watch footwork and arm/paddle movements from ready position to ball, hitting and recovery. As you mentioned so critical to success at high levels ... thanks for sharing.

Hey Jordan... I realize this is a footwork vid, but....i noticed that you have two different striking methods for your dinks.... flat-dink for forehand and what appears to be either a scooping or backspin strike for your backhand. Am I processing this correctly?

I have several dinks, I’ll have to do a video specific on this in the future.

On a really wide dink should you cross over first then lunge? Then you never have your back to the court. I think I saw a Simone video about this.

Practice both. I try to lunge instead of cross step if I can.
