I love my Championship SPURS.1999,2003,2005,2007,2014 and the close one's of '04 '06 '08 and '13, '17 also... Dynasty in the making. 20 plus years of greatness! David Robinson Tim Duncun, Manu Ginobli, Tony Parker. Etc. Die hard SPURS fan born and raised in S.A. TX.
Duncan was the only spur on the 99 03 and 05 title teams..think about that..in a span of 7 seasons and 6 years the entire roster around him changed for his 2nd and 3rd titles and finals mvps....shows how much fans know..they dont realize while duncan was the key they built a great team around him even after he won..sure they lost the 2000 season due to timmy injury but they never stopped adding guys and drafting and developing...other title teams could learn from them ..thats how you stay relevant for 20 straight years...rose kerr( who barely played) robinson and Duncan were the only spurs on both the 99 and 03 title teams...
@Lenny Felix IMO l think the Spurs would have beat the Bulls in 7. YES the Spurs had No One who could/would be able to defend MJ. But then again one else did either. With that being said. The Bulls had No One who could've stopped the twin towers. Robinson was still VERY effective and a Young Beast Timmy D. All the Bulls bigs would have been in foul trouble thru the entire series. And they had players who could have very well contained Pippen. So that would have left MJ to carry the load. And the last time l checked one Man can't be 5. Especially when u have 2 future HOF players on the opposite team. Think about it. All the Bulls championship teams. Never had too go up against dominant Big Man. And this was a time in the NBA when Big Men were key
@@whats_holden_up True, the Bulls were getting older and the Spurs had a VERY young Duncan n David Robinson wasn't that old yet, he would have been only 11 yrs in the league
I can see you're a Cavs fan though and it's typical for those franchises abused by other franchises to adopt Stockholm syndrome to the nicest abuser youve ever had
the 1999 spurs won it all and drafted manu 58th...who would of thought that pick was more important then most of the guys on the 1999 title team or winning the 1999 title cause he would help them win 4 more and grow the game globally..smdh..hes still playing too..
I think it's interesting how the Spurs are the ONLY major sports team in San Antonio. Small market with big accomplishments. Hopefully the Minnesota Timberwolves can do something like that
I was 14 years old when I watched this championship win in June of 1999. I was visiting family in the Rio Grande Valley from El Paso.. What a memorable win for our San Antonio Spurs!! #GoSpursGo
i still say without the iq of kerr bringing over the phil jackson zen to the spurs telling pop all the plays the bulls ran and the winning background of elie especially since he was more on the court in 1999 than kerr, the spurs do not win that first title...elie changed everything cause he had won before...kerr and purdue brought a winning attitude to the bench...
@@doctorx1924 I mean they swepted the Lakers in the 1999 playoffs which was more impressive than escaping in 6 games after getting destroyed by them in 2001 and 2002 getting swepted and gentlemen swept.
@@Theterminato2013 They didn't escape. Spurs in 5 out of the 6 games in '03 were up double digits on the Lakers. They were clearly not as good as the Spurs that year.
They're ALL Duncun lead titles but let us never forget David Robinson was the real reason we won our first he build the foundation to our dynasty here in San Antonio.
@@NobleDemonTimclosing down the fabulous forum in 1999 in a sweep. THAN making the Lakers cry on national TV in 2003 also. We met the Lakers 7 times in the playoffs from '99-'13 more than any other team out west. I got to see kobe at his best.
@@esdrasmakumbi4438 02 Duncan was better than Shaq imo just Shaq had better team. 01-02 and 04 I may give you that one. Still Duncan was best 99, 02-03, 05

I remember my family and I were watching that Memorial Day Miracle game on tv live and I was literally shocked when Elliot made that shot. Still one of my fav Spurs moments to this day. Lol, that image of Pop going nuts at the River parade was just so funny, especially when you consider how stoic Pops can be hehe.
That swarming physical defense they did on stars back then is what we need in today's NBA.we need that team atmosphere again where other players besides the the star of the team was valued.it would make the game better!
I'm Brazilian and I am a Spurs fan because I had a basketball video game I loved playing. It was called Lakers VS Celtics. I became so good in the game I would only play with the weaker team. It was the Spurs because back then the games were featuring only the playoff teams. I learned the names of every player, started buying shirts and caps and watching games when it was possible. Only years after that Duncan arrived and it was unreal for me the team I chose because it was the underdog was now going to the top ❤️🔥
I actually in the early 2000s I was working at an San Antonio restaurant at the time and Malik and his wife would visit at times. First time I saw him, I had to do a double take and did my best not to fangasm lol.
Steve Kerr and Mario Ellie brought championship experience to the Spurs with Kerr winning three in Chicago with MJ, Pippen and Rodman while Ellie won two in Houston with Hakeem, Horry, Cassell and Drexler
I remember all those years of heartbreak in the playoffs, especially after killing it during the regular season. That's why the wins that followed were so sweet. You can truly appreciate all those wins over Duncan's career because of those losses prior to his arrival.. What a run of success, unmatched by any franchise in North American professional sports. When Duncan retired, the Spurs had a winning record against every single franchise in the NBA. That's why he's the best power forward of all time. That's why he's considered a top 5 all time greatest in the history of basketball. He retired with the second highest win percentage in NBA history. The 3rd highest win %i n history goes to Tony Parker and the number 1 player with the highest win percentage in league history is Manu Ginobili.
Funny how Jaren Jackson was such a key part of the Spurs' victory, THEN went on to coach the Knicks' D-League affiliate in Westchester, AND had his son on the Grizzlies as they beat the Spurs to get into the 2021 playoffs!
Ewing for sure....starks was tough but i think his shooting in game 7 vs the rockets in the '94 finals was historically bad....if he mad any shots knicks win. Like the rockets missing a million 3s at home gane 7 vs the warriors a few years ago
Ewing was past his prime at this point wouldn't of made a difference. If prime Ewing had this team from 92-95 he'd maybe win some rings and couldve probably beaten the Bulls and Rockets, prime Ewing in this series is different but not 99 Ewing.
