Thanks! He was definitely happy!! It's a tough situation. The dealership can fix some of this stuff. But a lot of it we don't want them to fix. Because there method of fixing it will be wrong but probably fast. That's assuming the guy they have fix it even knows how to fix half the issues without damaging the car in the process. The customer wanted it this way so I could fix it. It wasn't unfortunate situation where the car was sitting so much that a lot of the stuff ended up being worse than it should have been because of the sitting. "COVID cars" for some reason the supplied chain was weird and these cars sat a lot and that's just been normal. But t many of the other problems Obviously happened during manufacturing and are much harder to explain.
he does say the customer declined the pre delivery setup/inspection. No way any dealer would deliver a vehicle like this. he probably had them remove the wrap to confirm no scratches or dings and drove off. it was in a yard, then a ship then another yard for the last 30-40 days before the dealership even got it. completely normal.
I've never really liked the idea of PPF on a vehicle but now I understand why. I loved your explanation about this and how it protects such a beautiful car. You gained a subscriber!
Wow. I've seen a lot of detail and car videos, this is top quality. So informative and so passion-driven. Would love to see more paint correction footage! B roll is so damn good and adds another level to the video
Scangrip makes good stuff and I use more than one light. But I've never had an issue with that and have tried multiple kinds of lights including scan grip ones.
You should probably get over your jealousy of someone whos chasing their dreams, hope off youtube comment sections and maybe try to improve your shitty life my guy
As an ex-valeter at a main dealership, and hobby detailer, I am absolutely blown away by the attention to detail and the over all professionalism in this work.
I just stumbled onto your channel & after following many car detailing channels, I have to say that your format (editing, information, cadence, b roll) is so so good. You're wonderfully personable with what you do. You should have a million subscribers, you definitely have mine!
🙂🙂 thank you! That means a lot because many of my videos have very few views and really make me wonder if I'm doing something wrong or if all the extra roll is a waste of time etc. Comments like this really help me know that extra shot is worth it and the format is great. RU-vid is really pushing this video so I'll do my best to replicate it but on the other interycars I do. Like the gt4rs and 992 gt3rs Grateful to have you as a subscriber 👍👍
Very sad to pay that kind of money and get the car in that condition. And it doesn't end there, ask anybody who worked on or is familiar with a dealership and these cars get joy rided all the time, driven very hard without the knowledge of the owner while being "tested" after a service or repair, and the list goes on and on (this is not just Porsche ofc). Most likely if you have the money for this car you can just say whatever and turn a blind eye but still shouldn't be like that.
At least we could fix it! I have a few customers that do all the easy maintenance so no one is driving them. But obviously the big stuff you need a dealership
Awesome work and presentation, once more! When these cars sit in the holding yards it is disastrous. My TLX Type-S sunroof seals were absolutely disgusting mudded up including the railing. As for the delivery wrap markings, that's due to the fact that it's applied too soon after the paint curing and de-oxygenated. Your detailing care essentially re-oxygenates the paint/clear coat and allows for these lines to disappear. Being closely in-tune with Porsche import, usually one of the inbound Customs POE is Houston and if it sat in Houston, it is possible that it got some drenched Gulf storms, which means sand within droplets. However, the Porsche Lot Techs are not always (aka: NEVER) to be trusted because they bare minimum "detailing" materials from management and cannot be trusted to provide top notch results... unfortunate but the reality. I tell my customers to refuse ANY dealership "detailing" and get over the "grand reveal" and come straight to me. Usually, I try to get cars within hours from coming off the delivery trucks (often handled by Russian truckers who are more often than none careless).
A lot of very interesting information in that comment. I totally agree about getting over the grand reveal. To many people want the "experience" vs the reality that it needs to leave ASAP to be fixed and then have a proper reveal with us lol
I didn’t hear it mentioned on this video, but which foam was used on this one? I know you use CarPro Lift and Gyeon Foam some, but what are your thoughts on the GTechnique Foam? Is it as good as the other 2? Thanks, Love your content!
I'm truly not sure what I used. I switch a lot lol I use reset. Bathe. Gsf. Foam and lift. Sometimes I use a professional line Maguires that I use really heavy like hardly diltue it. I have never really liked gtech for maintenance. I think they changed some stuff recently. So I might need to try again. Thank you for watching! Gt4rs video coming this Sunday!!
Pretty late to this video unfortunately, been pretty busy, but wow what a transformation. Lots of hours wrapped into this one for sure. Glad your back Evan.
I have had cars for years and cleaned them with washing up liquid and warm water, what is all this bull shite, drive the car around the block and it will come back the same.
Different people like different things. You don't sound like a person who would find value in this. It would be silly to assume no one would find value in it because you wouldn't.
I am shocked to find out the shape of the paint straight from the manufacturer, especially the swirl marks below the factory PPF piece! That's unacceptable for a high-end luxury car like Porsche. From your experience, would you say this is standard and dealers "mask" these imperfections, or would this be a one-off situation? p.s. Amazing video. Your attention to detail, high quality video production and passion for your work gained you a new subscriber :)
The sanding mark under ppf is definitely a wild thing to see. To be clear dealerships don't mask or hide this stuff. Honestly the sanding marks and swirls they never see or necessarily understand how big of a deal it is to some of us. Lots of cars from every manufacturer have delivery issues like this too. Porsche definitely has crazy sanding marks and other paint issues tho. It's common in my opinion. So find a good detailer lol. Glad you joined the channel!!!
Of course this video has tons of haters who have to give there opinions claiming he's not doing this or that right with major criticism stfu and enjoy the video.
Lol thank you. Anytime your lucky enough to get big views on a video your going to get some interesting comments. Comes with the territory. Appreciate the support 🙂👍👍
Unusual and very rare. Porsche usually deliver their cars in amazing condition and their paint finish is by far better than nearly everyone on the market as confirmed by paint and PPF specialists who have to do virtually zero to the paint before coating.
Lol is this a joke comment? Literally everything you just said was incorrect lolol. Look at all the Porsches I've done videos on with issues. Porsche Orlando called me yesterday saying they delivered a touring with similar issues and had to out source to a detailer because it was bad. All the local detailers here are fully aware that nearly every GT Porsche car has sanding marks and other defects.
@@STATUSDETAIL Sucks to an American I guess. As a % of what they sell and ship the amount you attend to is like piss in the ocean. I don’t recall anyone saying that every Porsche is perfect and of course one only gets asked to correct a car that isn’t what it should be. Rest of the world and Europe have no such issues. I can imagine if a Porsche dealership had the car before you it would not have been in such a poor state of delivery but as you say it came from the docks. It’s suspicious why would a brand like Porsche call a third party to clean a car and not PDI it themselves I’m sure they’d wanna do this in house rather than give it to some loud mouth RU-vidr who is just going to try to trash them and create poor content
@@peterbest5938 do you work at Porsche or inspect new Porsches as your profession? Or just guessing with everything you just said. I have around 12 years experience around cars in a professional setting and 7 as a owner of status. Most of our Porsche details are new and the owners say they are new and perfect as you stated until we find all the issues. We make them perfect then ceramic or ppf or both over it. That's why we find the issues and fix them so we don't seal them in. Obviously when they are allowed to prep the car it is not dirty. I'm talking about defects and things they miss. I've never seen a Porsche come in "perfect" ready for ceramic. We do have high expectations tho and that's why our customers trust us to make the car perfect. I do appreciate your comment but we have two different experiences or definitions of "very rare"
@@STATUSDETAIL I’m a Porsche owner (991 Speedster, Carrera 4S) plus some other interesting Italian vehicles that are worse out of the factory than Porsche. Every ‘new’ car will have something that can be improved but likely not visible under the naked eye. Porsche happen to deliver cars finished way better than most. Your content presents an entirely different narrative that all most Porsches you see are terrible and require correction which is clearly not the case at all. You are just one of loads of RU-vid ‘detailers’ that like to show off their efforts which is fine but don’t exaggerate by implying a particular brand always delivers its new cars in such a terrible mess. Try Bentley or Rolls even and I’m sure you’ll eventually find something to ‘correct’ but that doesn’t give you license to imply these are all terrible and isn’t it wonderful that have you to correct and make perfect.
@@peterbest5938 rolls actually does a really incredible job lol. Bentley too. They are two brands that actually go out of there way to remove factory orange peel. So they spray extra clear and go back and sand the clear down multiple times. Extremely labor intensive. They have some of the nicest paint in the world.... Your speedster is a beautiful car but after that comment I'm not going to reply to this chain anymore. Have a wonderful day and enjoy your speedster 🙂
how much do you charge for the complete detail? Also, one of my cars has old ppf cracking on bumpers and side view mirrors. I am thinking of soaking it in hot towels for quite a few minutes. Let me know any faster or better methods? I am afraid to use acetone, since it can damage the clear coat also.
This was 6-7k range I think. A heat gun will help. Hot water helps. But if You visually see cracks and it's probably going to be a pain in the butt to remove
To good of a car to reject. But I could see the dealership paying for his detail. That be appropriate. Maybe not the PPF or ceramic but at least the wash and correction part.
I have watched at dealerships even exotic ones where the guy they have to wash your car has a 5 gallon bucket of soap with a stick and bristle on it washing the car. And we all know that leaves swirl marks. Cant understand why dealerships allow that to happen.
Not sure what car you are referring too? But gyeon leather cleaner has been my solution for leather. It does a incredible job! For really dirty leather be sure to use a large brush and for really really old dirty leather use the leatherque system! I show both in my countach leather video Checkout statusdetailstore.com for the products!
@@STATUSDETAIL Thanks! I wasn't referring to any particular car - just that you don't usually do too many vehicles with completely hammered leather, from what I've seen. I'll check out the the video and link you mentioned above. You really do impressive work! I'm not a pro detailer - just an enthusiast who does mine and a few friends' vehicles on the side. Always looking to learn! 👍
@@marklittleton1309 I've definitely cleaned up some pretty bad leather. I think you will enjoy the countach vid! I don't do much with kids cars. Those are another level haha. Glad you found status Mark! This channel is basically made for you. The enthusiast!
I don't know how Porsche does their delivery's, but if I was getting a specialty new car I would definitely not have any dealer do it, would rather it get done by a detail shop who won't damage the paint.
Great job on the detail work. I can't help but think that there's an unknown back story about the cars condition. Literally every Porsche that leaves the factory for customer delivery is covered in a custom fitted, zippered cloth type cover.
Thanks! When they sit in the port they get pretty dirty! Some of these cars are sitting in the port for 3-4 months literally just waiting. As you mentioned it's a cloth type cover. So water and dirt and all kinds of crud are going to build up. I've seen this on multiple Porsche deliveries from three different dealerships.
Completely ludicrous, its a car for gods sake not an operating theatre. If a person finds it concerning that a sales person has sat in their car, then you have more to worry about than a sales person sitting in your car... jeeesus
Operating theater? I'm not familiar with those. I'm not concerned about people sitting in it. But when I'm doing ceramic there is a right and wrong way to prep. We do the right way 👍 Thanks for watching the video 🙂
I totally agree, the minute you drive it down the road it will be covered in dirt again, madness. I would only do this if the car was going to be in collection display. The detail was top quality 😊
@@virgin26 the PPF hopefully helps reduce chips. The ceramic helps it stay cleaner longer and makes it easier to clean. It all makes it so you can drive it and have fun washing it and doing so less frequently. 🙂
Do you generally wrap edges so they are hidden, where you can? I've been told it can wear more and pull away faster vs going close to the edge and want to know your thoughts? I think it looks much more clean where edges are hidden. Thanks, great car!
Hello John Great question. We typically wrap all edge's that can be reasonably wrapped.so the hood for example is fully wrapped. But on the Touring for example where the bumper and fenders meet you would have a PPF edge that's unwrapped. Hypothetically you can remove the bumper and wrap that edge fully. The issue with this is the film will now rub against itself with subtle driving vibrations and end up pushing it self out of that jam and eventually look really horrible. The back of the fender by the door can often be tucked behind into the fender/door jam as well. This attention to detail adds surprisingly lots of labor. Because you need to come back multiple times to ensure it's sticking on the back side of panel. Typically it's heated a few times to ensure durability. So be prepared for a longer overall install process and typically slightly more expensive job. In most cases I'd say either way is equally durable as long as it's done with precision and care. But I'd never recommend the tuck like the fender bumper example.
Great video! I have been learning paint correction and I would have liked to see a little more of the buffing. Some explanation of the stages you are doing and what you are using. But amazing job! How long did it take you and what would a detail like that cost? Thanks
I definitely go into more detail in my other videos about correction. Especially in the barn find video! But I specialize in correction and chat about it often on the channel. The r8 video talks about it basically the entire time! I use currently carpro reflect and ultracut with lake country hdo pads. All sold on statusdetailstore.com This was about a 5-6 day detail. I believe it was over 5k but under 6k
Amazing video (and car). I got here completely randomly, but your work is amazing and I'm honestly surprised you don't have more subs. I really respect that you're sharing the names of the products you're using, while you're running a business using those. It says a lot about your character in my opinion, and the attention and work you put into the cars definitely reflect that character. Great editing too. Clean sound, good camera quality, nice B-roll. You're a skilled dude. If in theory I had such a ride and lived remotely nearby (instead of across a huge ocean), I'd definitely trust you with my car!
@@Lennart1995 thank you! So glad you found the channel and enjoyed the video. I have a few more you will like if you enjoyed this one. And a 992 gt3rs video coming very soon!
I cannot believe how these mega dollar automobiles are handled at port before they get delivered to their dealerships. My GT Silver had delivery wrap glue even after the dealership prep. I couldn’t believe they allowed this to be delivered to me in this condition. I had to go back as asked for a better detail, they said they clayed and washed but I still do t believe it. Sad at this price point, what you get.
bro, how are you? I'm from Brazil, I always watch your videos and I always learn a lot from them. Could you answer a question for me? When you use Stek's PPF and need to pre-cut with software to save time on more complex cars, such as the front of an Urus, which software do you use? Is there any software that can be used with all brands and has a good update? Thank you for sharing so many teachings!! 👊
What’s crazy is I was taking delivery of a black Audi Q7 and it was all scratched from the wrapper it comes in. They tried fixing it which did nothing as I’m sure they didn’t use a DA buffer, so they lost the sale and I canceled. Still Amazes me that auto makers can’t figure out how to transport black cars.
That's unfortunate but I have heard stories like this a lot. For future reference do remember if it's just like swirl marks type scratches then just have them pay for your detail. Honestly that's a great way to get correction for free lol. If it was a legit nasty scratch or down to metal then I understand completely. Would suck to have a repainted panel.
You’re an artisan. Artistry is rewarded. This video alone will spread your brand far and wide. Rich people look for serious men with your unique skillset whom they can trust with prized possessions. One suggestion: tell us commoners how much each service would cost for a first time client. For example, tell us the cost to wrap the entire side of the car/rocker in one piece vs how you did it. We understand how much the car costs - we want to better understand how much money we’d need in addition to that. :)
Thank you for the kind words! I already had a customer from Texas reach out to ship a gt3rs to us for the status treatment because of this video! Super cool!!! You are definitely right. I'll remember to put pricing in for future videos. I appreciate the feedback 🙂🙂 Be sure to checkout my other videos too! Like the 993 barn find!
I have a porsche boxster 718 gts (Black) it has been ceramic coated with Opti something lol... what product would you recomend for a top coat if you will for removing fingerprints ect... ?
This week end I am cleaning the leather seats and doors of my wife’s BMW with the Gyeon leather strong with the brush and coat, for the rest of the interior (plastic, vinyl, etc…can I use Gyeon prep? I dont have the interior quick detailing right now. I also have the Chemical guy Ceramic Hydro interior detailing product but they suggest to use another detergent to clean the bigger grime and dirt before using the hydro interior ceramic detailer. Would the Prep be a good choice, or just soap and water?
I can't speak to any chemical guys products. But prep can be sprayed one or two e into a clean microfiber towel and wipes in all interior surfaces. It's great on touch screens and piano black trim.
@@STATUSDETAIL well you truly deserve a lot more lol, never thought I'll watch a car being washed on my RU-vid after this vid randomly popped on my feed.
Yes, the customer did decline the PDI from the dealer. However, they are delivering a brand new car, and by that means the car should be looking showroom ready. And if it is not, then even if the customer decline the PDI to get it right, the dealer should offer to pay for the detailing work required to get it to showroom ready. It is unacceptable for a customer paying premium money for a car like this, to receive it in a condition that is considered a "disaster" for a brand new vehicle.
The real crime here is something as rare as a new GT3 sat at the port for many weeks or even months!! If I was the new owner I would be ripping the dealership. I guarantee this was a special order, dealerships don't get allotments of these cars, they are 99.9% pre-sold
I agree but the dealership probably has nothing to do with it being in port? Probably a Porsche manufacturing thing/parts shortage. Dealerships just handle paper work and delivery really. Remember we asked them to not touch it detail wise. But obviously this was worse than normal due to port presumably.
Where are you guys based out of? I have a daily driven 991.2 GT3 that needs some serious paint correction and I’m scared to use our local retailers in Michigan.
I'm in Aurora IL. Near iron gate motor condos on i88 I have had more and more out of state customers reaching out! Currently have a south Carolina gt3 touring coming in 2023 and a 992 gt3rs in 2023 I would absolutely love to earn your business! Shoot me a dm on Instagram or statusdetail.com has my contact info. Email call anytime. 🙂 I know of a few transport companies too if needed.
Suggestion to owner: buy pepita seat inserts from Justin Placek! Makes a world of difference and would work wonders with the interior spec of this car!
If you're going to spend this much attention on paint protection on a super car you haven't bought it to drive it . I love a clean car but this is typical excess 💪don't get it ,😮
If you watched the video then you heard me say he going to drive it a lot. And track it several times per year. It's just be stored during a Chicago winter
Perhaps it's not as good as we would hope. Or because the car had production issues it's beeing washes incorrectly at the plant because they had it longer than anticipated.
You obviously didn't listen to what we said lol. It was not on a dealership parking lot. What happened to this car is not uncommon at all and we have seen it before.
Thanks!!! Screen protectors are hard lol. PPF isn't possible without that slip solution with baby soap. Its not easy but it's more workable and gives you the ability to get all the bubbles out and even go back to fix things like dust. Very unique process!
Great job. I picked up my new 911 992 GTS in flat black in October. Same issues regarding the paint. Horrendous sanding marks which I had corrected prior to ppf- mental!
Yep this is pretty common. Take a look around the comments here lol.... People think that I'm lying and that this has like three owners because Porsche would never deliver anything short of perfection.....
@@STATUSDETAIL I’d be interested to know if they’ve ever owned one from new.. The detailer I used in October had a brand new Carrera and Turbo in the shop around the same time as doing mine.. Both had noticeable paint defects, so it’s common.
@@lukebartram1966 I think most of them have never owned any new car. Just keyboard warriors lol. I have yet to see a "perfect" new Porsche based on my standards. If it was my car there would be work to be done on every car. But a lot of people wouldn't be bothered or notice a lot of this stuff. Obviously this car was pretty bad Tho. Worse than what Im usually seeing
Thanks for watching! There are different kinds of leather ceramic. This is probably on the mild side but doesn't change the look and feel. Fabric ceramic is a thing too! Works great on soft tops and alcantara.
It would be interesting to know how much this added service cost the owner on top of the car including the ppf and did he get a dealer discount for the inconvenience.
This was between 5-6 thousand. Can't remember the exact numbers. No reimbursement. But the viola metallic touring in my other video actually had reimbursement from dealership for his paint correction.
Very rare. Even with ceramic on wheels you're going to need to clean them with agitation and proper chemicals to really keep up with them and make them look nice. At the end of that process You should always be shooting hydro on them and that's going to boost the hydrophobics a lot. Proper wheel brushes will allow you to fit them in necessary places on 99% of every wheel. If you were unable to go to wheel brush because of the tolerance between the barrel and the rotor then you're in a situation where your barrel Will be dirty all the time regardless of ceramic. Unless the owner of that car will take the wheels off basically every time they clean it which is just unrealistic. Wheel ceramic is great but it's not witchcraft that you put on and then never care for again. All ceramic will require agitation and proper cleaning to keep everything working well Hope that made sense!
Lol whatever you say. He asked them to not do any work on it because he trusted us more to fix it all. Beyond the dirt etc the paint condition and swirls and sanding marks are not rare to find on a Porsche. Most people just don't notice them unless they have the right environment and lights to inspect it.
You mentioned you had to buff the wheel arch several times, would that not have long term implications for the clearcoat in that area? I often see cars where the clearcoat has broken down on a panel which had been over buffed by a panel shop probably trying to put more shine on a panel adjacent to one freshly painted.
Anytime you polish a car you are removing clearcoat. How much you remove is going to be determined by the process and the person doing that process. What you are referencing is typically when an unskilled body shop person uses a rotary buffing with hard hitting compound in one spot for too long and they burn through the clear and you get a dull spot. A brand new car with a good process and some common sense It's incredibly difficult to burn through clear coat. What we did to this car left more than enough paint for years and years and years. But if an inexperienced person polishes this car or compounds this car and with the wrong products every year as part of a maintenance for example to make it more shiny than yes of course it's very possible that they burn through the clear coat in a matter of years. You just need to know the limitations of paint and you need to know when to not try and correct something or to stop chasing something that you're actively trying to fix. The use of paint depth gauges is also very helpful but those don't always tell you thr full picture. They tell you the depth of clear. Paint. Base coat primer. It'll also read things like Bondo and can be easy to spot a painted panel but that's a different story. The point is a paint depth guage doesn't read clear coat it reads everything. It's up to detailer to decipher how much of that number is clear coat and how much you have to work with. In my personal opinion on a brand new car a paint depth gauge doesn't tell you much because you know it's brand new paint and you know there's a decent amount no matter what I do it's going to read total depth. It's more helpful when your detailing a 25-year-old car and now we can kind of guesstimate how many times the car's been polished or compounded and then take a fraction of that number and say that much is clear.
If you send it back you basically lose the car and your allocation which means you're just not buying one. That's why you want a good detailer like me to fix it for you
Yea that brake thing can be annoying lol. When I do the wash faster because I'm not filming it doesn't rust over as bad. So when you use the brakes as shown it works even better. But when I'm filming I have to go so slow and it takes even longer so the brakes rust over way worse. By the way it's a problem The point is during the normal wash they don't actually look that bad.
Great vid, what do you use for paint correction? Would love to see a dedicated video just on the paint correction process please 🙏 especially on a car like this that had issues with the paint and how you get that amazing finish.
Why dry with a wax based finisher to prevent scratching? Especially after clay baring and right before paint correction, probably don’t want to add that layer of wax before paint correcting.
Im pretty sure I literally explained this in the video... But still commented about it? Gyeon quick detailer is very mild. As in not strong and works as a great drying aid. Just because we're about to paint correction doesn't mean we should be careless when drying especially in a black car. It just so happy that this car was hammered and probably wouldn't have mattered how I'd ride it but we didn't know that It was that bad during that wash process so we were still being careful. I knew the car was going to need around a compounding and that's going to cut through any wax residue that was in Gyeon quick detailer on about 2 seconds. It would be a different story if I was putting ceramic base sealants on a car because that could be a little more hassle but we did not use that
I've driven just about every Porsche and generation and seat combo haha. In my personal opinion being a tall but skinny guy. I love the carbon buckets in the 991.2 and 992. I have driven them around a hour and been totally comfortable. They also look incredible. The comfort seat is good but not worlds better than the carbon seat. If your doing like 3-5 hour drives you might start feeling the carbon seat more and dislike the fixed backs. Anything around a hour I think your comfortable.
