I found Nujabes music first out of those 3, like 12 years ago on some random forum post.. which is kinda weird considering I'd say he's the least mentioned out of those 3. Gonna go bump the ristorante mixtape today
@@fucker661 Hold now I won't allow any badmouthing of a man who singlehandedly fused multiple cultures into one cohesive style that is still around to this day, ntm his work on making the best soundtrack from any TV show, Samurai Champloo. Even Shing02 is amazing gtfo bruh.
Ironic how the song title says don't cry but this flip can bring me to tears. Not only did music save my life but dillas sound will always bring me peace
Yesssss broooooo! Same here literally! I'm so glad I stumbled upon this sick vid. Thanks RU-vid for recommending me this. 🎶"Jay Dee flip another beat for me!"🎶 🎵🎼🎹🎧🎤🎵
@@proregeRotzak Maaaan, you HAVE TO check out AMP's beats. Your life will be perfect :) :) He has a beattape "AMP on the beat like", and has an album with Bad Lucc called "Breathe". And he also made tons of beats to Rapsody.
Can we be honest about something? Since Dilla died there hasn’t been one, NOT ONE, producer that could do what he did on a track. Not DJ Premier, not Dr. Dre, not Kanye, Pete Rock, Madlib or Timbaland. J Dilla is and will always be a CHOP GOD.
@@edwardlamar3650 dude said "since Dilla died" Marley Marl preceeded the great JD. There is no conflict. MM was a great of his time, as was Pete Rock - but the bat king crown was placed on Dilla's head and no one has touched it since. No one.
The chop god is DJ Premier. There's no doubt about it. His whole style is based on chopping, way more complex and frequently than J Dilla. Donuts was a very innovative and unique way of making sample chop based beats, but Dilla's best work is his soulful stuff with deep sub-bass, inspired by Pete Rock (Dilla's hero).
@@pookeyblow you’re smoking something dude. Let’s keep it 💯. DJ Premier is definitely top 3 producer of all time. Without a doubt. But he COULD NOT touch Dilla as far as production. Out of Preemo’s whole catalog, not one song could touch the innovation and instrumentation of Dilla. Preemo’s lane was finding a snippet of a sound and flipping it into a song. Now one thing Premier is untouched on is beats. If you had said that I’d roll. But he couldn’t touch Dilla on production. Give me one Premier album that could touch Donuts. Yeah, I thought so. 😂😂
I knew this song was special, but I didn’t expect to find a video of a college grade lesson on it taught by 9th Wonder. that’s like finding a Wes Anderson teaching a classroom about Kubrick’s camera tricks lol
People that talk smack about samples havent really gone through the history of the technique, this song gives me goosebumps and I can listen to it 20 times in a day. Rip dilla thanks for the hours of entertainment
He really made our lives so much better with giving soul music a harder feel. I hope. Alot of people enjoy the 70s classics more thanks to the sampling
Dope Dilla face sticker on my back windshield rollin' around Detroit showing respect like I'm spose to. Dilla will always be Motown's finest! Rest In Beats
9th Wonder, Khrysis and the WHOLE Soul Council inspired me to want to be more than a beat maker. JDilla is one of my HERO producers. Just here learning and studying....
One of the most amazing things about him making this music when he was in the hospital is he had lupus while doing this among Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP). I’m not sure how TTP feels, but once I took Prilosec and one of the super rare side effects is medically induced lupus. It’s temporary, but it can happen, it happened to me. And I have to tell you, my fingers hurt SO BAD when this was happening to me. It was like someone broke all of my fingers and they were not healing. And the fact he was able to make this album while feeling this way (among other things) really showed his passion shining through despite the pain. It’s truly amazing.
If I understand this right, he’s trimming it so one pad is the start of a kick until it hits the next snare (The 2 probably ) and then cutting the sample and then
Doing the same with starting on the snare (most likely the 2) and ending it at the 3 (or right before next kick) and then just randomly playing random kicks and snares together? Also using mute assign probably on the mpc to make sure it’s smooth I’m guessing. What do u think
There is one clip from the dilla documentary on YT where House Shoes says JD is the best to ever do it bc it would take this man maybe 15-20min to make a beat like Dont Cry. To make music like this, without the software we have today in less than a half hour is seriously other worldly.
