In this bargain sewing machine series, I am looking at machines that don't cost an arm and a leg, to see just how suitable they are for making bags.
The second machine which I will review, is one I found on Marketplace for AU$40/US$27. It came with a cabinet but was mighty grotty! So, let's clean her up and see how she sews....and in the next video, I will make a bag or wallet with this machine. Win or Fail? Follow along and find out!

Got the exact same Elna machine in 1974 when I passed matric (grade 12) and it is still going. These machines were made in Japan I'm told and designed in Switzerland. I will never get rid of mine, such a little workhorse. Wishing you many happy hours sewing with your Elna!!!

The Horn Cabinet is a small version of one I have. The curved piece at the bottom inside the cabinet is where you store the acrylic insert that goes around the base of the machine so you have a smooth flat surface to sew on. You put the insert between the cabinet back and the piece on the bottom. The long broken plastic piece you are tossing away can be replaced (for a price) from Horn. I had mine broken one time and I was able to buy a replacement? Great find!

Oh I see! I saw those acrylic inserts on the Horn website. I might have to invest in one of those! I managed to get the surrounds from horn for $25 (Got an extra for my mums cabinet while I was at it) but they wanted what I thought was quite a lot for the broken plastic piece, so that one I decided to give that a miss, for now at least!

My first machine was the light blue Elna flat bed with cams for decorative stitches. Later I bought the pink free arm like this one used . I loved them both, still have them but don’t use them. Nice find.

Okay I guess that RU-vid doesn't like when I post a link, so must be deleting my comment. Those flat metal things with holes are yarn threaders for tapestry or yarn needles. That foot is a darning foot that can also be used as a free motion foot I posted the link to the free Elna manual that you can download on your FB posting about this video, since my comment keeps disappearing from here and that must be why as I added a link?

Oh I guess that must be so about the link and why your post kept disapearing! I have never tried adding one into a comment. Thanks for the info on the flat metal things. I had no clue LOL! Thanks for the info on the foot, too. And HUGE thank you for the Elna manual link, too! XX
