On this episode of Solely Singleton, Brad and Eric go over the 2021 edition of the Solely Singleton Starter cube! For those who are unaware, the starter cube is a $120 budget cube that Brad and Eric designed back in S8E3. Like many things in life however, the price of the cube has slowly ballooned since then. So with the help of the Patreon Discord the crew have made a few changes and upgrades to the cube to bring it back under that $120 price point. Brad and the discord were able to fit a lot of sweet and spicy cards this time, so stick around and listen in!

I started with this cube as a template, built it out into my own thing. I had a bit more budget to work with but it was still really nice to start at a low floor with a cube that I knew was functional, thanks a lot guys

im looking at getting this done.. i was thinking of going with the card kingdom starter cube shown by the professor over 3 yrs ago.. but i would prefer to get my hands dirty and your videos are MORE recent.. me gusta..I haven't played Magic in over 2 decades.. would love to get my kids into it..

@@rodrigoalonso9991 I’m also new, however I talked to a few people who have better experience and some of them say that the starter cube isn’t a good investment, it’s mostly chaff and it’s kinda synergistic but you could spend slightly more and have a better cube. I know you posted this a while ago but incase it was applicable I hope it helps!

@@JuanRodriguez-hy2rp Thanks! Unfortunately I bought the starter cube, which like you said, isn’t super synergistic and has a lot of chaff. Nevertheless, because of this it’s given our play group some good times trying to make chaff work xD, and also it’s inspiring me to remove all the chaff and make my own cube! Although, I agree with the people you’ve talked to, I think spending more to get a better cube would’ve been the best way to go, hope my experience is helpful for others!

Currently breaking apart my old “value cube” (basically cube good stuff with very loose and bad themes) to make this. Hoping I can draft it at some point XD

I’ve been going back and forth for about a year now on whether or not to build a cube and this list has been the tipping point to get in and build my own! I really like the list and the rundown! I also have a bunch of questions: Any tips on changing up the Red White deck to be an equipment/artifact matters Aggro style deck? You mentioned a reanimator package that would fit in mono black and I was wondering what spells and enablers you would recommend to make it fit into a ramp/cheat/control deck as opposed to being it’s own thing as it’s kind of expensive to go all in and feels like a trap for players when it’s not all there. Finally, what would you recommend for a mono blue theme? W and R do aggro, B brings aristocrats, and G has a decent ramp deck. I know it’s necessary for control and you mentioned tempo. Would you recommend any signpost cards to bring that mono U tempo deck into the focus?

Does a cube like this work if you are routinely short of the 8 player mark? Considering trying it out at boardgame night, but we're normally 4-6 players.

I think 4-6 is a totally reasonably number to draft with. Lets you experiment with different draft archetypes as well

Max already replied with my basic answer. Yes the cube caps out at 8 people but more realistically most cube owners like to run a cube that is roughly double the size of their average drafter count. It lets you get more variance in what decks get drafted by not knowing that every card is always in the pool. A 360 card cube is actually pretty bad for longevity at 8 person draft formats in my experience.

I drafted it a couple of times. I think white is the strongest color in this cube. Every pack has some sort of removal / board wipe for control decks or aggro decks xD

Hate to be the guy to ask again, but any news on an updated version of this? I’m looking to put a cube together in the next couple of weeks and found this, but I’m hesitant to build it if there’s a new version right around the corner!

I’m building a 180 cube because I don’t always have a ton of players. Usually it’s my wife and a couple of our friends. Any advice in building that small of a cube? Is it possible? Thank you! Love your content.

No way! Just read this! Any news? I really liked the idea of this cube and was thinking of building it, but didn't like that it hasn't been updated for so long.
