If you ever heard about the GM Ecotec engine, most likely you heard it because of the bad PCV design within. Well, the PCV is bad and could cost the entire engine but a $15 oil cap (GM FC219) may prevent that. Please check out this video.
Link to Amazon for the oil cap: amzn.to/3Hvk8pV
Note: Amazon may say it doesn't fit your car. This is because officially the cap was made for Saturn Vue. As long as you have a 2.4L Ecotec, it fits.
If you don't know how to check the PCV system (of any car), please check out this video: • How to Check the PCV s...

Good tips. Another tip, go watch the video on drilling out a hole to access the PCV port, so you can flush it with carb cleaner every 15k. Also, add a oil catch can. Other than that the car drivers pretty good.

@kaitlin4u 16 дней назад
So I found how to do this, it’s okay if I spray the carb cleaner in the hole? That won’t mess anything up?

FYI for those of us in the cold… the FC219 will also freeze shut. So this is an engine that needs a warm-up before you go anywhere. Thaw out the cap.

The oil is getting dirty and oxidizing quickly due to Gas Direct Injection. I've been recommending this cap for 5 years.

Maybe your high pressure fuel pump is dumping raw fuel into the oil.

So my buddy has a 2012 equinox that he had Ford $25 oil changes its whole life. Started using 4 quarts in a week. Put this cap on, added seafoam to the oil. Slowed the ussage after the second oil change to 1 qt in 2000 miles. Now 4 oil changes later, always adding seafoam, 1/2 quart in 3k miles. And it is no longer oily around the filler cap.

Just clean the pcv orifice and install an oil catch can then use a valve cleaner to clean the valves and since these engines have piston ring issues then i recommend to get some gumout multi system tune up take out all spark plugs then pour about half a bottle in each cylinder then crank the engine by hand to work the liquid into the rings to unstick them after that let the fluid sit in there for about 11 hours then get a turkey baster and suck then fluid out after that install everything then start her up and then no more oil burning
@AdrianHernandez-vh7wr
@AdrianHernandez-vh7wr Год назад
Make sure to do an oil change after the gumout procedure

I cleaned the PCV orifice as best I could and bought the pressure relief oil cap as well. I plan on doing a more thorough cleaning once the weather warms up a bit.

That small hose on the left side of the top cover when I pulled that out so I can do my oil change there was like a milky oil coming out of it, the oil on the dip stick looks fine and the coolant lvl is normal I have noticed a lose in power like it's bogged downed when trying to accelerate so does that mean my pcv is clogged or maybe valve gasket? I also noticed I have a leak on the valve cover black oil not milky any tips? P.s I'm a noob just teaching myself to work on my car can't afford 200$ a hour mechanic

@HandyDoctor89

The loss of power is probably because of the leak in the valve cover. If you have milky oil in that hose on the left, you should have a clogged pcv.

@Zeek800
@Zeek800 2 месяца назад
An oil catch can works differently than this oil cap “ pressure relief “. High pressure inside the valve cover from the crappy GM PCV system ( try a GM 1.4 litre turbo ) causes “ oil blowby “ and the increased pressure inside 5he top end of the engine pushes oil out through the valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket and apparently even the rear main seal??? I can’t believe GM hasn’t had a class action lawsuit brought against them for all these problems ( lemon law??? ) Direct Injection is an engine killer.

This engines design does not allow for theinstallation of a catch-can on the Dirty Side of the PVC system. You can install a Catch-can on the clean side, but the problem starts with the orifice in the Intake manifold.

@@patpelletier4523 You are fine, Pat. I don't think you can see the hole where the air is released. It's somewhere higher, between the white and black plastics. It should work.
