Great review, thanks! I got a cheap used Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 that I absolutely love, thinking of getting this for a walkaround lens. I had the Nikon 40mm for a few days but didn't like the sharpness wide open close up, so I returned it, but my AFS 50mm and FTZ is a bit hefty, would love something smaller but still sharp. Subbed, cheers from England.
I tested this as well and put it head to head against the Nikon 40mm f2. I found the Viltrox was equal to, if not better, in my testing with the Nikon being a touch faster on AF I think. Really a great lens.
Thanks for letting us know! I didn’t do a side-by-side, but it just felt like it was a touch sharper and a little bit quicker on the auto focus. Thanks for confirming what I was thinking
@@kaskoPhoto I'd be interested to hear your long-term thoughts on this lens, if it's a toss-up between the Nikon Z 40mm and this. That Nikon 40 has wonderful round bokeh wide open - it kinda became my go-to for "night in the city" shots for awhile. But I guess at this price, I should probably just shut up and buy the Viltrox :D
@@wolfgangwhyte5571 honestly I never do side by side comparisons. But if you have the Nikon 40 I would never say go by the Viltrox 40. I’m sure if you dive in to 300% and look close enough there will be a difference. But shooting either will get the shot you’ll be happy with.
For what it is… no complaints at all. But I want just one or two well built autofocus lenses with the aperture ring - for the rest I’ll use Voigtlander.
@@kaskoPhoto Great, thanks for the clarification. I too have the Nikon 40mm f2, and really like it. But i am always curious to try new lenses, and do really like the 40 mm FOV.
