Watching the Random Show feels like checking in with old friends (that I'm actually not friends with). I'm listening to The Tim Ferriss Show since 2016 and the Random show are some of my fave episodes. Like I'm sitting down with peers listening to how they navigate life.
Other affordable luxuries: - Fountain pens and calligraphy - Fashion (from an aesthetic style point of view, not special brands) - Quite a lot of small, simple tools that you use frequently. - For watches, there is a sweet spot around $200-$300 where you can buy really good watches from Chinese homage brands. - Hobbies where most of the cost is up-front and non-recurring can actually be quite inexpensive even while using nice equipment. (Photography and bicycling are moderate examples where the cost/use is low if you really love it and do it a lot) - Gardening (especially if you live in a part of the world where labor costs are low... If not, you can be friends with plant people and share clone cuttings with eachother) - Activities/exercises that use limited equipment or where the equipment doesn't really matter (hiking, yoga, meditation, ?) - High-quality audio costs can be quite low with certain types of headphones - Fruit - having the best fruit is related to your geographic location and seasonal timing far more than price. - Videogames. For people who find a game they really enjoy and play it a lot, the cost per hour get really low - Reading (if sourcing books the right way or reading old books)
Calligraphy is the shit! It's a good way to practice focus and it is meditative... even if you do it for just 15 mins at a time. I think it's much easier to start learning with felt tip calligraphy pens like Schaefer... and really wide ruled paper.
1:30:32. Kevin mentions B&W Px7 and Sonos as reference points for good sound quality, I suggest looking at a Focal Bathys headset and Bluesound for the home.
I totally agree. I've been watching Kevin since G4/tech tv days. Then I watch Diggnation and that was hilarious. I love it when a random show comes out, its probably my favorite internet content. Other people said it here first, but it feels like connecting with old friends.
Claiming Bitcoin isnt green in 2023 kills me. It is the greenest force out there enforcing renewable energy usage incentivized through lower kwh prices and thos lower mining cost.
Erewhon LOL - Tim is totally right about it. It's the epitome of LaLaland - it's a luxury supermarket tailor made for rich LA entertainment / tech people, influencers and wannabes. It's a total scene - everything people make fun of LA about - under one roof. I've been a few times when in Venice.
ZBiotics definitely works! The key is the bacteria is genetically modified to make an enzyme that breaks down acetaldehyde. It's been a life saver for me, I don't drink without it. Kevin should try it again, it's definitely solid on 5-10 drinks (if you avoid stimulants + get sleep!)
Tim speaks japanese with an affected accent that is either a Samurai or Anime villain/hero. Its the same as if a japanese person changed their pitch and tone to match [insert well-know person in america] and pretty funny
Trust me - there WILL BE $1000 beer and so on. I made the mistake in the mid 201xs of getting into high-end headphones. I bought the BEST TWO pairs on the face of the earth. It was so "affordable" then on a mere standard tech salary. Now? Forget about it. They invented new ones because they saw market demand, 99.99 wasn't good enough now you can drop 5-10x as much for 99.999 - diminishing returns of paying a car worth of money for that .001 improvement is just outright stupid. I honestly prefer blowing money on designer clothing by far now - it is far more interesting because the playing field is level. Basically you can charge the sky for an item if you are Balenciaga, but if it is the creativity and design that drives you as a buyer (me) - it is a huge gamble for them to price too high because as soon as they do there is somebody selling something more creative and more interesting for a fraction of the price but it just takes more work to "discover" the existence of that thing. Now suddenly I'm thinking of buying 2 or 3 items I absolutely love vs 1 and saying naw f you Balenciaga, I'd prefer to have 3 awesome items to one. There is no way you can "out design" 3 items I'm in love with with one. Hope that makes sense, kind of hard to explain.
The talk about Bitcoin is frustrating. BTC CORE is so dodgey, along with the Lightning Network, with Tether and money laundering, I don't see a future with BTC. But I'm a BSV man, so I guess I'm biased. They rolled BTC back to something more along the lines of the White Paper, I can make a transaction that's instantaneous on the network without any need for another layer of a Lightning Network. I don't understand the hate, but I question the slander and adhominem attacks on BSV. Hmm.
I've got some buddies who are into $100-$350 cigars. I rock the pipe during their sessions. Obviously, the cigar tastes better, but there's no way in hell I'm going to burn that amount of money at this phase of my life.
I'm on a tight budget but I'm developing an interest in sound. I want to ask about the Bathys Focal earphones since Tim was wearing them on an episode. Are they worth the expense? How is the noise canceling on those? If anyone has feedback I'd much appreciate it (currently own Sony XM5)
I ordered it on two separate occasions. The first batch worked like a charm. I binge drank for 5 days and did not have the typical hangover I usually had. My BMs were better too. Second batch I felt no difference so I wonder if it was a bad batch.
Been a fan of tim Ferriss ever since the 4-hour body book .. and Kevin Rose since diggnation ... didn't even know these two were friends at first .. so glad they are .. perfect friends 👌
Wow, can't believe both of them are so heavily pushing Bitcoin on this one. Tim used to be a skeptic. I guess they are both all in and want to talk their bags so they can dump if the price goes up. Sad that they are on the tech bro grift train now too.
What's the Belgium craft-beer that Peter Attia drinks? Regarding how the reward for mining bitcoins will be cut in half in May 2024.. would love to hear a friendly discussion with Balaji Srinivasan and George Hotz. Regarding the AIs (replika, unstable diffusion, etc), would love to see a video on all things discord/prompt-engineering!
This is one of my favourite things. Kevin got jacked up though, like that shredded kangaroo if you’ve seen that dude punch a kangaroo? Unsure about a wife being in the room ;) but I guess as you age, funny when Kevin knows so much about AI porn and false skins though, hilarious when your wife is sat there so she seems cool.
Mikhaila Peterson has a hangover drug she developed. I bet its good stuff, because she is intolerant/sensitive to almost any product/food :D so it is gonna be well tested...
Bluetooth headphones don't do "lossless" on iPhones, as they only support AAC. Kevin is talking about high bitrate aptX, but that works only on Android phones. Not to say that those B&W PX7 don't sound good, as they probably do, just not because of the codec used.
The most delicious beer ive ever tried is called päffgen beer, you can only get it i cologne Germany in a certain brewery, my god is that beer gooooooood, you have no idea
One of the fun things about this is what they consider cheap 😂 you don’t have to watch it but wonder why you made this comment as it’s just weird, like a flex you are one of the few suckers to pay a subscription for RU-vid, hilarious flex
I'll post this again here since I think it's that important. @TimFerriss Invite Jeff Booth on the show to talk about Bitcoin. Would be an amazing conversation!
I made lot of loss from the crash. thanks for Jim Brin, I was able to recover enough. Highly respect his T/A for both targets and which way you lean bullish or bearish.
