I've had an absolute infatuation with the A10 since my dad was in the Air Force. He wasn't a pilot, being around several AFB's I got to see more than a few. By some sheer coincidence one was flying into McChord AFB a few days before my dad was set to be released from the Air Force. He got word it was coming and I got to go watch it come in and land. Twenty five years later that is still burned into my memory.

It's interesting that from the ground, you hear two brrrrrts. First, the sound of the bullets impacting the target... and only THEN, the sound of the Minigun spinning up. That's because sound takes time to travel, and you're closer to the target than the Hog. If of course you're flying the Hog, you hear the Minigun spinning up first.

That plane has saved so many soldiers lives.

There's something so terrifying about this gun that comes from it not sounding like what you'd expect a regular machine gun to sound like. When you hear the sound of explosions and AK47's or M16's echoing in the background you still have the sense that there is a battle going on. When you hear this it's like hearing some kind of machine on an assembly line blasting thru solid steel with a high pressure water jet. That kind of gives everyone being attacked by it the impression they have brought a stick to a gunfight and they are completely out of their depth.... and they would be right. This thing turns people into red mist before you can blink an eye.
