A-100 modular melodies (& beat from a steam locomotive)

A modular impro with a Doepfer A-100 Analog System and support from Qu-Bit Chord.
The melody in this patch is made up from two VCOs, one is sequenced by a clock sequencer (cv goes through a precision adder to make it manually transposable) and the other one is just droning (with sub-osc). Both VCOs go through their own VCF (the droning one through the Doepfer diode VCF and the one playing a melody through the Doepfer SSM VCF). Modulation with envelopes and clock dividers.
The percussion is a short snippet from a steam locomotive departure (visible at the end of the video), played by the A-112 sampler and going through a highpass VCF and a VCA with some modulation.
The chord surface comes from Qu-Bit Chord and the Doepfer SEM VCF.
All sounds are squeezed through some FX for the sweetness.

Ha ha, I know that steam engine, visited it in my holidays at Germany's Ostsee (Eastern Sea), I love it, great tune and explanations, others could learn from. Many thanks and yeah, Doepfer has a great collection of modules often underrated! I could fill two PMS-9 only with their modules ;-) Keep on making those great videos!

Thanks! Good to hear that there's another one who wants an all-Doepfer rack, in times with plenty of "more fancy" modules. But Doepfer rules, because all his modules are focused on their special task, and there they perform great. And this "all-Doepfer" rack really inspires me every time I touch it.

that's a really nice little composition! since you also have some behringer 100 series modules, I would like to ask, how you would compare them to the doepfer modular system; like how is the handling, the sound or the workflow comparable?

They are both straightforward. Doepfer is a bit more sturdy, the Behringer modules are a bit more fiddly due to the small knobs and faders. The workflow is easier with the Behringer System as it has the dual modules and input mixers. The sound really depends, sometimes I like the Doepfer more, sometimes the Behringer.
