My parents bought this the year it came out. This camera has given us so many memories, though we stopped using it when iPhone became available but I’m deciding on keeping it traditional with this camera again after many years. I just feel like video footage isn’t that memorable on smartphones.
I remember seeing this camcorder in a magazine and I was amazed by it, especially with the DVD recording feature, it was way WAY ahead of its time, when I got my hands on it back in 2013 I got so excited and I was always recording so much videos using the memory stick, but I asked my mom for the small DVD-Rs and she lend me her small stack of it, I was so amazed that I can play this on my old Pioneer DVD player, it got lost during a storm, but amazingly, it still works, but the laser doesn't work anymore sadly, but I had so many memories, all the DVDs survived and just in time to saved it all to my uncle's cloud server before the DVDs couldn't be ready anymore, you made this video really brings back old memories I would love to go through again, but technology moved on and I really have no other choice, but I'm glad it happened so thank you for making this video as a reminder that even old and clunky technology can make so many quality memories👍❤️
I'm so glad that you posted this video. I have this exact camera. I bought it back in '08 at Costco. Paid dearly for it back then. However, from moving several times, the camera was somewhat misplaced. I just found it again and after watching this video of yours, I can now get back to using it. I plan on purchasing new batteries for it (one for backup), also purchasing some rewritable dvd's and some memory sticks. Just hope I can find all of that. Nevertheless, thank you for doing this video!
Thanks for posting. I just got one of these and wanted to see the quality and specs. Seems like a decent build just a pity about the cut outs you had. It could be the battery connector that has some light corrosion on it and lost contact, as that is a loose-ish part
You are so good reviewing that is unbelievable and just for that I have to be one of you subscriber you are very professional and you look for every single and specific parts and explain with detail each part thank you. I have this camera since the day one they come out and I only use it one long long time ago and I was wondered now that I want to become a podcaster if I can use it or if I have to buy me another one but I think that for the moment this camera will do thank you
oh yesss just recently bought one off of ebay and i am so excited to use my new baby 🥰 the only bad side about sony cameras is the memory format because i feel like memory stick pro duos are harder to get 😪
This is so helpful, mine is a little newer model, but took it out recently to use (stored for 10 years). Battery is still good, only can no longer find the mini discs in local stores. Appreciate the download app info. I'll check that out for sure. Trying to download vids off the RW discs and reuse them. We'll see how that works out. Thanks again for putting this out there. One note: I don't think I "finalized" a lot of my previous recordings, so they are probably lost forever. Going to work on that tonight and see. I didn't realize the connect to the TV was there until this vid. The manual is long gone, much appreciated for your tips.
U bought a handy cam from 10 years ago I hear, Sony focus deluxe 60 x had, no pause off Amazon, it had 2 battery, battery for wall, a lot of plugs, memory stick, tripod, a lot of hand-helds, a lcd lens cleaner, card with adapter, read writer, and I think it's alcohol with a wipe. Wow for about 60 or 80 bucks. I bought in 2020.
Thanks for posting about this camcorder. I have one just like it. Bought it back when it was just coming out on the market. Its been stored in my closet for years and I was looking for my camera mount for my tripod and it was attached to the bottom of the DVD-610. Just got it out and put it on charge. Hopefully the battery is still good. If not I'll be getting me a new battery...lol
Hi I actually inherited this camera from my grandparents who passed and I am trying to figure out how to download the movie from dvd to my MacBook. Can you do a video step by step on how to transfer? I would truly appreciate it. It has so many memories.
@@IansTech Nice video, anw, should we format the dvd after we already copied the video? I already delete it on the DVD on my pc, but the videos are still there, what should I do to make it empty? looking forward for your suggestion, thank you
I just did this yesterday on my 2019 MBP, what I did was connected the handycam via USB, make sure the disc is finalised first. Then you should see the disc symbol pop up on your desktop. If you open that up, you should see a folder containing the content in some old type file names. Some are .vro or .vob for example. If you tap that file name you should see it clearly has the content of the disc from the file size (about up to 1.5 GB depending on what disc it is). Drag or copy that file onto your mac. Now the tricky part is viewing them. You need to research online what software to use, some are paid some are free. What I did was covert them into mp4 first. I hope this helps
Yeah its a great cam, even I have it! Btw do you know how can I use it for live streaming by attaching it to my PC? If you can help me out then thats really gonna be great! Thanks!
If I took a drink every time you said "you do have" or "we do have" I'd be wasted a quarter of the way into this video. lol Nice review though. BTW Nightshot is using the infrared sensor on the front of the camera as a light source (invisible to our eyes). That's why it only works close up (not very powerful) and why it does the weird thing with the eyes.
@@ismael04_ All you do is insert a memory stick duo, then you can record to it. The camcorder should recognize you have a stick and record to it once inserted.
Thank you for serving in the Navy for us all. When you get a minute, can you answer 2 questions? 13:11 You showed how to RIP, however when I place the DVD-RW into my PC DVD player, it shows the disk empty. Matter of fact, I tried to view it in many of my PC's DVD players. Shows empty. I downloaded Handbrake, however can't use it if disc says it is empty. However I have several videos on disk that I recorded in 2009. The playback works when disc in Sony HandyCam only. Any suggestions? Plus at 11:41 you mentioned, you have to Finalize the DISC. I can not find how to get to that command. I also have Handycam DCR-DVD610 that I bought at SEARS 10/08/2008 for $329.99 b4 tax. Brigitte in Tulsa Oklahoma.
Also you don't need Handbrake unless you want to make an MP4 or MKV file. The easiest thing to do is to open the disc on your computer, drag the largest .VOB files to a folder on your computer and rename them with .MPG extensions. Get rid of the .VOB extension entirely. Replace it with .mpg From there you can watch them in most video players and upload them to RU-vid, etc.
If you can get hold of a Sony PRO DUO adapter you can use a microSD card with it,I have a very similar camcorder,DVD115E ,and thats what I've been using,if you use a larger than 8GB microSD card you will get an error message when you turn it on ,but this disappears after a few seconds then you're good to go
I HAVE A QUESTION! 💜 this might be a long shot seeing you posted this two years ago, but i have this camera, it was my moms back in 09 and i have it turned on now. i have a memory stick and found so many old photos of my mom i’ve never seen before! Anyway! i don’t have any empty discs, i found some on amazon but it’s not 1.4 gb, they’re sony compatible (dvd-r) but they’re 4.7gb. Would those discs still work for this camera? I’ll probably wait to purchase until i know for sure. Thank you
Is it possible to use this camcorder as webcam? I do know there's no hdmi output or usb function, so I'm thinking using capture card with RCA support I just remembered I have this same exact camera laying somewhere and thinking giving it a second life as webcam
I just ordered this camera , I’m looking forward to recording with it and eventually putting away all these disc until the cameras pulled out again with all this footage
I found this old camera somewhere in my house and I have a question, the only way to have the files in my computer is by taking off the cd and putting in in a cd reader?
I just found one on ebay 2 batt , all the cords usb and a charger plus a power cord , remote carry case Internal hard drive 7 hour play record time come out in 2006 15 years old are they youtube friendly ?
Hey! Thanks for the video dude. I wanted to ask if you can charge the camera with the micro USB near to the screen. I just fouded one of those cameras with my dad's stuff and i wanted to turn it on, but i couldn't find the proprietary charger. Could you check this for me please? It would help a lot :)
@@bys.productions9796 not yet, the camera actually belongs to my dad, and I don't live with him. I guess this weekend I'm going there to try it. If it works or if it don't, I'll let you know 😉
@@bys.productions9796 Hey, im back! So, i tried to turn it on with the USB charger near to the screen, and it didn't work :/ I'll have to buy the proprietary charging cable
@@suzantareke6953 yo! I didn't actually get it, but I searched for it, and I have it's name saved somewhere! I'll try to find it and I'll send it here ok?
What model is your Handycam?. Mine is the Sony DCR-DVD308 and on the menu there should be an option to do one of several things on the screen.. Finalize, format or erase which ever it might say...
so i got the videos onto my macbook but it doesn’t save them to a file or anything where i can airdrop the videos to my phone, is there anyway to export the video?
I would recommend just buying a DVD drive that Can not only play the DVD format but can also connect to the MacBook and then copy the mpg/mov/whatever codec the files are in and drag to the desktop
Hi! I was hoping I could get the link to the charger needed for this camera? I’d love to see old footage I have on here but I lost the charger and I’m a bit confused with which port to use as well. The one on the DVD side or the one next to the battery info button on the other side
I have the DCR DVD650, the memory card only stores pictures. The videos you record are on mini DVD discs (hard to find locally). I can play the mini discs in my blue ray DVD player though, and found that pretty cool to know. Let me know if recording on the 8gb memory card works. That would save me a lot of time hunting these discs down. Thanks
I have this exact camera. I have several hours of recording from my childhood. I would die to get them on a real dvd/usb. I just don’t understand how to transfer them. It doesn’t work through the computer. Does anyone know what to do?
@@IansTech It will work with 16GB but will give an error message, but this disappears after a few seconds then you're OK,I use a Sony PRO DUO adapter with a microSD card
How to record on the memory stick? I have the same camera but model number is DCR-DVD106E, can the memory stick be used to record ? I don’t find any option on the screen to activate memory stick recording.
It depends which model camcorder you have, only certain models can record video to memory stick as far as I know, the memory stick can only be used for still photos on many models I have a DVD115E and use a PRO DUO adapter with a16GB microSD ,it gives an error message for a few seconds then works OK
yo i got this exact camera. i bought brand new sony dvd-r for it and i put it in but it wont let me record it keeps saying i need to format the dvd but its a fresh dvd so i cant format? any help?
hi!! i have a sony handycam carl zeiss DCR-SR82. i just found it and tried using it but i have no idea how to transfer the photos to my laptop. my sd cards does not fit the slot it has. do u have any idea how i could transfer the photos
You may need an adapter or you can use a mini-USB from the camera to your computer. That only works with photos from the card. For video it has to be burned to the disc first to get it from the camera.
