I bought a gen 1 in 308 when they first came out. What a nice rifle. I ended up getting rid of it but I wish I still had it. However I recently picked up one in 338 Lapua. Ruger has made an awesome rifle in the RPR.
I absolutely love the quality And affordability Of Ruger products. They are the epitome of what it means to and American company. Keep it up and I’ll keep buying and recommending your products!!!
Ive got the RPR 300 Win Mag with the Vortex Viper PST II 5-25x50 scope, Timney drop in trigger, Atlas bipod and the magpul prs3 stock. For around $4000 total cost its a hell of a rifle. Right out of the box the scope was zeroed at 300 yards and have shot it out to 700. Still looking for a place I can set up a target farther out that I don't have to drive all day to get to. Love this rifle. I even bought the custom hard case from Peak Case Co. out of Colorado which is made specifically for my rifle. Love thus gun. Ammo for the standard range day is about $75/40 rounds. If I was shooting farther out it would cost more for long range ammo.
As a 62yr old hunter and shooter, I am fascinated with long range and doping the elements :) That said I have a personal issue with long range on big game. Yeah I don't care if ya shoot at a coyote 2,000 yds but how many big game animals are wounded and get away. As I said long range has a purpose and fascinating. Yet 1 shot , 1 kill is not being achieved in these vids I watch. Who shoots at a deer a mile away while his spotter says 20ft to the left and 10 ft low. FLAME ME... I don't have a 1/2 moa rifle, but shooting steel at 2,000 yds is a addictive science IMO :)
Couldn’t agree more! You had better be damn consistent regardless of variables to even attempt such a shot on live game or you haven’t got a humane bone in your body! Hunters don’t let their game suffer!
It’s a baby 300 RUM. And the 30 nosler is a teenage 300 RUM. And the 300WSM is an infant 300 RUM. If you want real long range power, and the ability to really push the new 250 grain Amax’s, get the 300 RUM and don’t look back.
I Have A RPR In .308, With A Primary Arms 4-14x44 ACSS HUD DMR Retical, I Can Hit A 36x18 Inch Steel Plate At 1000yds All Day Long & My Longest Hit Is 1300yds...
I want to get into long range shooting What do you think a used Ruger precision 300 win mag excellent condition with a vortex 6x18x44 scope is going going for these days any idea???
I have this gun and haven't even shot it. I'm curious, Is 225gr Hornady PRC overkill for 500 yard shots? My shooting range closed down right after I bought the gun and my field is only (roughly) 500 yards. If so, what load would you recommend for 500yd? Thanks
The cartridge is overkill for 500 yards. It doesn't matter which load you use. It's only overkill in the sense that you're not using its full capability.... that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with 500 yards.
I just recently picked up my RPR in 6.5 creed I couldn’t justify the prices of the magnum style ammo for range shooting constantly. But one thing I do love is that damn square muzzle break. Any chance anyone here knows if I can buy that separately and put it on the 6.5 ??
Would a Vortex Razor HD Gen II 3-18x50mm Rifle Scope, 34mm Tube on a Vortex Precision Extended Cantilever 34mm 20 MOA scope mount work well with this rifle?
there are so many affordable options today ! I got a 300PRC Howa barreled action off Brownell's for like $500 mofo shoots 7/16 inch groups at 100 yds, never thought I could afford that
Nikon might have been a good choice in the past. But they stopped making rifle scopes, as far as I last heard. Your options very much depend on what your budget is. I only spent several hours/couple days researching choices under $1000, and came up with the Vortex Viper PST (mine are Gen1, all 3 of them). But beyond $1000, $2000, $3000+ there are choices that could take you multiple days to sort through.
I'm sure I'm late to this one, but the Leupold VX-5HD is the same glass and coating as the VX-6HD at half the price. It's incredible in low-light long-range conditions.
This sold me on the 300 PRC RPR... I’ve gotta say, it’s almost boring. I shoot with my friends around 300yds and all you can do is try for better groups, but hitting steel is a joke. Cant wait to get this thing out to a long-distance range.
Wouldn't want to be the shooter on either side, the blast looks tremendous! I was at our range and the guy to my right was shooting a 30-378 with a brake, I left. The blast was physically moving me. 15.2lbs. and you need a brake to reduce recoil?
What are the coordinates to the location you are shooting from? At the equator Earth is spinning counter clockwise at around 1039 MPH, so at the *45 Lat. the rotation is around 520 MPH which is equivalent 750 fps. Let us say all the following scenario targets are placed at 1000 yrds. Can you shoot to the north, impact the target then shoot south and impact the target without much windage adjustment? I ask because when you shoot north the Earth's rotation is coming from right to left but when you shoot south the rotation is from left to right. Can you shoot to the east, make impact then shoot west, make impact with out a whole lot of elevation adjustment? I ask because shooting east the Earth's rotation is coming towards you, when you shoot west the earths rotation is going away. What about diagonal directions NW, SE, then NE,SW, how much windage and elevation adjustment do you make? I ask as these diagonal directions NW, SE and then NW,SE are completely opposite. One last question, What formula do you use to figure in for the coriolis effect? Just a lot of critical thinking here. BTW them were some awesome groups. thank you for the uploads and in advance thank you for answering my book of questions. be well my friend.
Why the extra shoulder pad, it's not like you're shooting a 338 LM with 300 gr. bullets or something with kick. Heck the gun weights more than 15 pounds without a scope so it's more like shooting 243 Win or something in that class. The more that you have between you and the gun the greater the chance of inducing error in each shoot.
Haha that is what i said until 30 rounds into it. This was a 3 day event of shooting magnums all day. It really helped.... Especially since most of our shooting was prone.
Yea the factory brake works pretty well. I swapped mine out for a Terminator TA brake, knocks the recoil down quite a bit more, kicks less than a 6.5 Creedmoor.
10k custom rifle, My most expensive rifle is 5800 and that includes the NX8 scope. Lmfao and no the RPR cannot compete against the guys who know what they're doing with their custom rifles!
NEVER BUY FROM RUGER if you care about having a functional fire arms . they don't sell spare part whit out sending rifle back to factory that mean if the gun you have get banned or registration became mandatory your screw and wont be able to repair your gun . i would have never buy a something from ruger if i was aware of that . just example im looking for spare bolt body and Firing Pin Back for newest gen ruger rpr and unable to find the part that mean once those part break or are just to worn out i have no way to easily repair it .
I've been all over the internet and the FTW Ranch website and they won't say what FTW stands for. So it's got to be "Fuck The World" now I can sleep better at night.
Of course it is. Just like on my license plate. Almost. It's USA1FTW. When getting it several years ago was asked on paper & said USA #1 'For The World' LOL! Got it! Always an end run in life.
