Woot your background genuinly looks insane. I frikken love it. Looks so vibrant and smart. I unfortunately cannot afford this beast threadripper but as my davinci resolve crashes while using multiple effects I do sure wish I had it 😂😂😂😂

hi i am on tight budget should i go for threadripper 7960x or ryzen 9 7950x ? I am mainly using for houdini unreal engine and blender which one you think is best?
@WootDini
@WootDini Месяц назад
Heya. So this is a tough one considering you need to do on budget. Both will work but consider the following 7960x has vs 4 channel memory 2 24 cores vs 16 Supports 1tb vs 128 (both are sufficient) 128gb l3 vs 64 189gb PCIe band vs 94. So if you need to pinch I would say rather go for 7950x as it's blender is good (have not benched on unreal). The 7960x gives way better "futureproof". Soz man I hope this helps. Either way you will be fine.

Strongly considering this CPU for my next build and you covered some good bases and points to think upon. Heavy Blender user along with some photoshop work, lots of Lightroom, Premiere, minor coding, lots of gaming, so it's for me a case of "this will crush all around workloads that I need". Thanks for the great review.

Heya :) Just note the benches were not amazing for Adobe based applications. Intel still won there, but it is not going to be a massive difference especially if you are going for all around workloads :) Just get good ram !

So the problem with the "it can but shouldn't" is that many of us out here use our PCs for a combo of things. I write code for the day job, I "try" to write music with my DAW setup, I run some AI models on the PC, and I game. So for me, it's the perfect all around CPU with enough gaming performance to get the job done for most games quite easily, while providing a robust developer machine and AI machine (with dual AMD 7900xtx GPUs for the VRAM), music production, etc. For someone just looking for gaming, def go with 7950x or 7800x3d. But if you do multiple things with your machine, this chip is probably the sweet spot for getting you in to the TR without costing that extra $1K to $3K for 32/64 cores that you probably wont use.

100% It's best to fit the cpu to your general work load. You have found practical use for it which is good

Thank you for your great Review 👍👍👍, I want ask you a question please, I plan to buy Thridripper 7960x with Gigabyte TRX50 Aero, and the liquid cooler "NZXT Kraken Elite 360 RGB" but on the website of NZXT Kraken Elite 360 RGB mentioned (*Threadripper bracket not included) so, Where do I find sTR5 bracket to mount liquid cooler? thanks.

Heya. You are most welcome. The Bracket and the torque wrench come in the retail box the cpu ships with :)

Thank you for the review. I am not a computer expert, though I have been building my own computers since the early 90's. I am considering this CPU along with the Gigabyte motherboard to run an astro-photography processing program called PixInsight and I am assuming that the CPU would be just what this program calls for. Can you please give me your opinion as to the suitability of my planned build for running this program. Thank you in advance.
@WootDini
@WootDini Месяц назад
Sorry for the delay. I have never used that program. But from what I can see it's a CPU intensive program so it will work well. It also needs alot of ram which compliments the 4 channels of the cpu

I actually haven't seen any reviews of this cpu that focused on the gaming. Could you point me towards one? I know Gamers Nexus did a short section, but that was just to show that it could run them. Not so much benchmarking.

My review of the 7960x covers gaming. Not a lot of games but it does include some. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-86pf6gHIWHk.html

Heya Sorry for the delay, been away for a tiny holiday. So pretty much all of the reviews that I see went with "This is not for gaming, but here are the gaming benchmarks". Maybe it is a good point to show its performance is adequate but not optimal. If you are talking about the 7960X purely on gaming, Steve does and I see the comment from @gametechreviews below. I just feel with today's market, the people who need these CPUs are not going to understand half of the benchmarks, or for that matter, care. Think we have got so stuck in the details that we forget the main purpose which is massive data processing. Just a rant from my side :) ignore me

@@WootDini Yeah I definitely get that. My use case though is fairly niche. As I compile my entire OS and userspace software stack, multithreaded performance is important(looking at you chromium). And having the capability to play games is definitely welcome. (although these days there isn't much to play thats actually worth the time).

@@WootDini Also as an additional use case for such monstres CPU are data science and machine learning applications. They need a lot of power over a long period of time. Some examples are: - Vector calculations (where AVX512 is extremely usefull) - AI: GPU kernel compilation for deep learning graphs - Dataset: data preparation, augmentation and transformations - And also the IO capabilities of taking a lot of RAM and multiple GPUs

Cooling performance is bad at your test system. i have a diy Watercooling, my 7960x never get higher temps like 64°c at 100% load (360x2 fullcopper plus one 120mm fullcopper radiator all st30 HPE Alphacool)

100% I did mention that I believe there is more room for improvement if I can cover the IHS. I won't go for overclocks until I am happy with the cooling. Want a rectangular copper plate to cover full IHS.

@@WootDini The Ryzen 7950x has a slightly better workstation performance than the 7950x3d and costs 100 dollars less, clearly if you are evaluating the TR 7960X it is for a workstation ...., but if you want to compare it with a processor designed for gaming .... it is fine.
