sorry for the f18, don't give up on that. install a light non-retractable landing gear and try to lose weight. maybe smaller batteries. or maybe a catapult. maybe looking for more powerful motors mix
Whew, glad the packs survived that nose-in! A suggestion for future "risky" birds - i.e. heavy EDFs etc. that crash hard when they do crash - you seem to have quite a good amount of interior space, with the large scale and the thin foamboard walls, so it may be worth making a foam "sock" for your batteries. I've had very good results using that white, semi-rubbery open-cell foam that you tend to find in the packaging for new TVs/monitors/other fragile electronics, it has very good rebound. If you make a thick parcel of that stuff, hollow in the middle so you can slide a big battery into it easily, wrap some tape around the outside to hold it together etc., you'd be surprised at what kind of punishment even a big pack can survive. I used to test my "socks" by putting a 3s 2800 in one and throwing it at a concrete floor. :P Aside from all that, the A4 flies beautifully. Loved the outside loop, those are a favourite of mine. :D
you really build awesome planes mate, and sorry about the crash of your F-18, but i dont think that it was an weight issue, at least from my point of view (the cam) it looked more like you gave it a kind of a spin when you threw it, which resulted in a stall and the following crash..., it is certainly not easy to handlunch such a big plane with full thrust, maybe a buddy would help during launch...anyway cool video, and thanks for sharing, cheers.
You're not wrong about the throw ... it wasn't my best! :D Mentally I think I include the "ease of throwing" with the weight of the plane ... it's a lot easier to throw the A-4 smoothly and straight because it weighs less than 3lbs!
Also, how is it heavier than your other SUPER Super Hornets? I saw absolutely no issues with hand launching your first and second XF-18s in your previous videos. Your first one crashed, but launched fine, your second flew great, your third was the blue angel which had landing gear, and now this is your fourth I’m assuming. I really want to make one, but I would prefer to hand launch.
The Super Super Hornets (Blue Angel and Dark Angel) both had twin alloy 6S EDFs and a 5200mAh 6S battery. My previous Super Hornets were twin plastic 4S EDFs with 5000mAh 4S pack. That’s the weight difference. The original setup is a great hand launcher
So sony for Your F18, Your throwing technic is really Awefull if You don't improve Your throwing skills, this impressive F18 will not have been the last Victim, try a Bungee Set up, or a Undercarriage that will stay on the Ground, hope You can repair the F18. 🙏🏻👍🏻
I can't disagree with the result of this throw. I'll just say it was an unfortunate outcome from 1) over-estimating my throwing arm and 2) under-estimating what throwing 7lbs is really like. I usually have much better throwing form, I've been flying slopers for over 20 years which are all hand-launch, but none of them are 7lbs! Having someone else throw with two hands may have saved it, but ultimately a functional undercarriage is what this bird really wanted. This is also a learning point for me: while I'm not "old" I'm not getting YOUNGER either, and if I want to build bigger I may not be able to "huck" things like I used to. ;)
@@TheHarberHangar You are right, 7 lbs are really a lot to throw, and maybe it was 'nt Your best Day for throwing, 'cause the Launch of the A4 looked already marginal, the release was a bit slant, but i am quiet confident, You will be successfull in the Future on launching Your Planes.🙂👍🏻

I think your AoA was too high on that hand launch. Don't feel bad. If you never crash, you're not being adventurous enough. And that is extremely boring.
