I would love to see you do scratch built plane by using the plans that you provide for us to download and use. Then you use a uncut/unscored foam board. I would love to see your techniques.

I would like to see a video on using a regular receiver instead of a satellite with the Aura 5 Lite. No one seems to know how to set that up. On your FT website for this product, item 2 of the Aura 5's FEATURES it says "Connects easily to receivers or satellites from all major radio brands". Also under PORTS: it says "Five Servo Ports can be individually configured as (PWM) Inputs or Outputs". If they are PWM inputs, where are the outputs? And the WIKI page you link to shows the Aura 8 setup with a full receiver. But I don't see how it would work with the Aura 5 Lite. So we are still in the dark on that aspect of this fine stabilizer.

Yes... Please Yall guys give us a video showing all the rx's that can be hooked to it. Can we use something like a AR410, or a AR8010T or just a SRXL2 remote. be great to filly understand what all can be hooked to it and show us how to do it. Thanks

The Aura 5 Lite can only be connected to serial-capable receivers. Spektrum remote receivers, Spektrum SRXL, Futaba S.Bus, FrSky SBus, Jeti EX-Bus, JR XBus etc. etc.

Also, SRXL2 will be supported in the not too distant future... noting that Spektrum SRXL2 does not behave the same from receiver to receiver, so there will be a table of tested and approved Receivers at that time with notes and any extra cable requirements. 6610T and 4651T and 4650 will be supported in the future.

I could not get the Aura Config Software to connect to my FT Aura 5 using my own micro-USB cable, but using the one provided with the product worked just fine.

I don't use a PC anymore, just an iMac. I think that you have no solution presently for Mac users with the Aura 5. I just do what I can with the two push buttons and that is that. Expo, mixes, rates are only in my Spektrum 6 transmitter. I do get 6 axis, 3 axis and gyro free operation. I am about to buy two of the Simple Stick (one for spare parts). Why should I buy the recommended Aura 5?

The configurator does not even work natively with Linux. Not to mention it is proprietary software.

It would be nice to have a step-by-step video on adjusting the 6-axis settings. I'd like to adjust the bank assist/aileron bank limit and elevator limit and can't figure out how to do it. I have no idea what all the "gain" adjustments mean. I'd like to see an adjustment of the 30 degree bank limit so I can adjust it to say 60 or 75 degrees. As it stands in 6-axis mode it takes 300 yards to make a turn.... Any layman's language assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

David, we have some basic definitions of Aura terms on our Wiki page here: wiki.flexinnovations.com/wiki/Aura/Glossary Gain, specifically, is the amount of correction the gyro will apply for a given movement. In other words, if you have it set to a low number, and the wind bumps the airplane, it will not apply as much correction to counteract that. If you have a large number, it will correct with more force. Too much gain though, and the aircraft can oscillate, or 'wag' back and forth rapidly.

For a tail dragging aircraft, the angle of the board would be different on the ground than it would be in level flight. Would I have to zero the gyro while holding it up as if it were in level flight? Or is this somehow taken into account?

Make sure you show people how to do sync there ESC. I bought your ft Legacy and your Dart, both videos don't show this. I crashed a lot because of it.

Where would be the best spot to put the aura 5 on the sea duck? just order the kit and everything so ready to start build when it gets here

Hi Joseph, We aren't super familiar with the Sea Duck ourselves, but you want the Aura to be in the aircraft and oriented in any 90 degree orientation relative to the flight path. Most aircraft will have a receiver or battery platform that is level to the flight path and will work great for the Aura. It does not have to be mounted on or near the CG.

All this new stuff is confusing for myself that is use to using the old 72 mhz gear with out all this computer stuff... I was told I needed a new radio system to fly RC so I picked up a Spektrum DX5e... what receiver do I need to work with this board? I think there needs to be a book for us old RCers that didn't grow up with all this fancy computer stuff.

I purchased this when it came out to help my 6 year old son learn to fly. I use a Hitec Flash 7 transmitter and have both Optima and Minima receivers but have had no success getting the Aura 5 lite to work. Is there any tutorial for radios not called Spektrum or Frsky?

I used radiomaster rx d168 using sbus to aura 5 then got 3 extra ch on receiver left and use. The lead on rx Ang got telemetry battery voltage also

I got my Aura5 on Saturday and put it on my Mako seaplane. It was easy to setup and trim, especially compared to CC3D boards I've used in the past. My only "problem" so far is that self leveling is the center position on the 3 position switch. I like having it at either end, so it's just a flick and not a precise positioning. I think I can adjust this in my radio settings tho. I wonder if differential thrust will have rate mode, like the new UMX Ultrix, and is it possible to have more than 5 servo outputs?

You can set the level assist mode to any position you want when using the Aura Config Tool. It is a bit more advanced, but can be configured as desired. There are only 5 outputs available on the Aura 5 LT. Aura 8 and Aura 12 Pro have 8 and 12 available outputs.

@@FlexInnovations thanks for the response, I haven't plugged it into a computer yet. I can bind another separate rx to my radio for a 6th channel probably, for flaps or lights. Does differential thrust have rate mode to counter adverse yaw forces? I know rudder does, but of course rudder and differential thrust operate differently, no diff thrust without some throttle.

@@learningtocrash4030 If you use something like an AR8010T with SRXL to the Aura, you'll get 5 gyro-capable outputs from Aura, but also channels 6,7,8 from the receiver can be used as well (CH1-5 are used by Aura). The only issue with this is that channels 6, 7 and 8 are straight from the RX and do not have gyro capability. You can make the differential thrust respond to gyro movements, but it is an advanced type of setup and must be done in the Config Tool. By default, the yaw gyro only outputs to the rudder, not the motors. Part of the thing to consider as well is that if you did have gyro correction applied to the motors, they would spool up with any yaw movement of the aircraft, including when you carry the model by hand, which can be quite dangerous.

@@FlexInnovations I won't need the gyro for any extra channels: lights, gear, or flaps, etc. The rudder gyro would have to have in interlock setting so its inactive until the throttle is raised, I guess. My twin delta with the Lemon level RX will spool up if you yaw it with no throttle, but it takes a very fast yaw.

I have a question regarding receivers you can use with the Aura 5 lite. Do they have to be DSMX satellite receivers like the SPM9645 or can I use a sport receiver like the AR620? I'm new to this so I have no idea.

I have the question too about full receivers vs satellites, but no one seems to know how to set that up. @@hifinsword You can connect the common serial receivers to the Aura. For Spektrum, this is SRXL capable receivers and remote receivers. Futaba is SBus, Jeti is EX-Bus, JR XBus etc. You cannot connect a non-serial receiver to the Aura 5, but you can with the Aura 8.

Hi Josh and whole FT team, my son Davi and I are big fans, he is 4 years old and he flies RC planes solo including rolls, loops, inverted and land already. We have the FT aura 5 lite installed in an opterra 1.2m with a lemon sat. receiver, it flies really nice! I was not able yet to set the launch assist, we are using a DX8G2 tx, all trims and sub trims are set to 0 (zero), aileron, elevator and ruder travels are set to 125, throttle travels are set to 88 low and 84 hi so there is a good control in whole stick travel, frame rate is set to 11ms as the servos are digital. Please any recommendations to set the launch assist? Thanks in advance! btw we just maiden our FT goblin it is awesome!!!

Two things come to mind that might help. First, did you do the TRIM procedure completely? That is, did you push the TRIM button, get the sequence of blinking lights, zero the trims, go back to the solid green and red lights and then power down the Aura 5? Once it's powered back up, do the left stick down and left and hold till you get the servo twitch. Be sure not to move the right stick once that's done. The red light should now be blinking. Secondly I would try setting the throttle travel to 125% temporarily to see if that helps. It should not matter but you never know.

Hifin Sword Hi Hifin, I tried the trim procedure but it failed to complete as it never stored or recorded the settings; as the trim was close to zero then I set it to zero and tried the launch assist; is it necessary to go through the trim process before or only having all trims at zero is good enough for the launch assist? Thanks a bunch!

Keep in mind, in order to activate launch assist, the aircraft has to be still for at least 5 seconds with all controls neutral and the throttle low.

There's a tab, can't remember which one, that gives you the option to enter D/Rs on the Rx, or in the Tx. I think you just click on a box to check it for one or the other. I prefer to have mine in the Tx so that's what I selected. The preferred method (and default) is to have the dual rates and expos in the Aura. This is done on the Flight Modes tab in the Aura Config Tool. You can also setup in the TX, but is much more advanced to get things working properly, so it is not something we typically recommend.
