in watching Van Gogh I was taken and interested in his relationship with his sister in law and learned she's a major reason for his success and fame after his death. and I found out about this book Jo van Gogh-Bonger: The Woman who Made Vincent Famous by Hans Luijten. so it would probably interest you if you don't already know about it. I actually used to think Van Gogh was kind of overrated, like when I was in high school and particularly in taking an AP Art History class. but a couple years later I finally saw some of his paintings... I think when I was visiting Michigan and we went to the DIA (Detroit Institute of Arts), and seeing them in person totally changed my mind! I mean, I do think there are a ton of artists that go under the radar or are overshadowed by *such* well-known names, but I definitely see and appreciate Van Gogh's artistry and work more. I'm really anticipating Lady Macbeth, too, and the cover is so pretty. I'm so bad at keeping up with and knowing about new releases but others I'm excited about / interested in are Leigh Bardugo's The Familiar, Perfume and Pain by Anna Dorn, and First Love: Essays on Friendship by Lilly Dancyger 📚
OH YEAH. I recently sobbed over my love for Jo and how, without her, I wouldn't know about Vincent Van Gogh. I also thought it was "basic" of me to consider him my favorite painter, but after connecting with him through his letters and learning more about him, I can't help but identify, empathize, and adore every aspect of the van Gogh family
