I've only ever used KEF speakers so I was always going to find this video interesting. Jack Oclee-Brown is very much the face of the company and is clearly a huge asset to their business, both technically and commercially. There are YT videos of him describing KEF products going back 8+ years, when he looks like he was straight out of University. He's aged well to be fair. Thanks for sharing.
Well, my opinion of KEF has improved massively. I was already an admirer of theirs, my first ever pair of hi fi speakers were KEF C40s, along with Celestion and Mordaunt Short but seeing the amount of real engineering design going into their products it's increased by some margin. I found Dr Jack Oclee-Brown's talk on the computer simulations of the speakers particularly interesting as it's very similar to what I do for vehicle noise & vibration predictions as well as for stress, fatigue, displacement and temperature. THIS is what I would have expected to see for those isolator feet things that cost hundreds/thousands of pounds for some machined metal with wooden bits screwed into them. With regards to his comments on direct sound and reflected sound, if you get the opportunity to go into an anechoic chamber do so, it will really mess you your mind !
I didn't include that to try and keep the video time down a bit and the video render time down - I had to render this video out twice due to a few minor mistakes (4am working mistakes) Each render took 9 & half hours
Great vid mate, genuinely interesting seeing even a glimpse into the R&D that goes in to the speakers. I always wanted some KEF Q35 back in the day, but were a bit out of budget so bought some Tannoy Mercury M3's (I was about 14 at the time!). Recently bought some KEF R5 though and can now finally appreciate the UniQ technology. Love these speakers and would only sell them if I found myself in a bigger room and could fit R11's in!
So glad you got this vid out... I had intended to go to that day. Even though every trip to Nintronics is enlightening,I decided to prioritise the Gryphon audio day the following weekend (cancelled, understandably) now I don't feel I missed out 👍🏻 ... Sub stack on/off comparison sounds like another winner.... Thanks again for cool Content Terry. Stay safe everyone
I am planning to make a subs on / subs off demo video but I didnt get a chance to film sound clips from the big system, the day was too busy with too much going on to get the room to myself.
