Watched alot of videos on this guitar, and I think this is one of the best. Love the close in video shots, and covering all of the bases that I care about - feedback, tone, build quality, and of course ' does it do the Beatles?" Great work!
Was able to go play one of these at a local guitar store. Was pretty impressed with the feel and playability of the neck. For that price you could upgrade the pots and maybe pickups and get an absolutely great guitar
Great review! One of the best I've seen and I've seen a lot on this guitar. Thank you for weighing it. I've only come across one other reviewer that does this. Cheers.
Thank you so much for this review. This exact guitar is currently in stock near where I live, and I was seriously thinking of picking it as my first guitar. I love the fully hollow body for the sound, the weight, and the fact that you can play it, unlike most electric guitars just fine without an amp. I also like the thinnish neck (I don't have the longest fingers). As my first ever guitar, I'm obviously not looking to spend tons of money on a vintage original right now. My main concern was that it might be junk, but so far, everything I've seen in reviews makes me think it has enough of the original essential elements of the vintage Casino that it will be just fine as my first. Thanks to your review, I've decided to go for it!
Kyle, great review of the Epiphone Casino. I had an interest in them at one point, but wavered. Guess it was that the Beatles had used them that got my attention. My electric journey began with a Yamaha Pacifica 112V, and I then realized it was Les Paul's that turned me on. That said, this was a great review and gave some real insight into the guitar, Thanks! Bob
I’ve just got a cherry 2015 one and I absolutely love the thing . My casino is by far the best guitar I’ve owned And I’ve owned and played a few cool guitars .its Light it’s a pure hoot to sit n play it sounds fkn awesome on or off the amplifier and cmon man take a look at the things .in any finish they’re just cool AF looking things I’ve got a gorgeous 1976 Burny Les Paul and n all honesty my Burny is actually the nicest guitar I’ve ever owned and I’ll never part with it . I sold a custom shop design Stratocaster to buy the casino . It wipes the fkn floor with the Strat I’ll keep my Casino for ever it’s one of those guitars 👌🏼
Very enjoyable review, thanks!!! I think you explored two types of feedback. One because it's a hollowbody and the second (with the OD pedal and higher gain channels) microphonic feedback from the pickups.
Great demo buddy thanks I like the guitar and handled one last week now that I know it sounds good and bright with hopefully quality Maple I might have to purchase one
Thanks for this review ! I have a worn Blue Casino (beautiful !) and was wondering what sort of paint Epiphone is using on these guitars, I'd like to get that finish on other guitars
I was having a hard time believing that top is Maple, but I guess the “Worn” part is a cerused finish making it appear to have pores. Not something you see on Maple much. Neat guitar.
Yeah it does look odd. I’ve never seen pores on a typical gloss casino so I assumed it was the worn finish too. Definitely never seen anything like it.
Nice thorough review. And you know what we want to hear on that guitar - the intro to Revolution sounds amazing. Nice work. I want to pick up one of those when they make more of them. Also, is 8.5 considered hot for a pickup? I thought I saw somewhere that the sunburst casinos from China run pickups that are lesser quality and measure over 12. That would make the “worn” casino a more authentic sounding guitar right and a better deal right? Thanks for any insight.
Thanks! 8.5 isn’t overly hot, I was just surprised by the readings. The bridge pickup in this guitar sounded hotter to my ear. I thought for sure the neck would be less or the bridge would be more but that wasn’t the case. I just looked it up and you’re right the standard casino does come with different pickups, I didn’t know that! I prefer lower output pickups for sure so I’m glad I got this one. It really nails the vintage sound!
Thanks for the reply! Yeah after that vintage sound too. I love the look of the sunburst casino but that worn olive holds its own. And for the money it seems like the worn is a no brainer for me. Take care.
Last I heard, the worn Casinos were discontinued. They're not on Epiphone's site any more and somebody on Reddit contacted Epiphone to see if they were making more, but Epiphone got back to them and said no. The only Casinos that are being made now are the US-made ones. My theory is that the worn Casinos were Epiphone's way of getting rid of their remaining stock of Chinese-built bodies as quick as possibly, so that the Chinese factories could focus on the 'Inspired by' range and the Casino could become a luxury flagship instrument.
Im new to guitar playing and trying to learn how to play. The riff that you are playing at 5:43 is amazing and does not look to hard to do. Would love to learn it!
It’s very simple! It’s just E B and A. I’m playing an open E chord on the 12th, then barre versions of B then A, without the bar (open E, B, and e strings). It’s the same E shape moved from 12 to 7 to 5.
Hey Kyle, do you have any experience of the non worn Casinos in vintage sunburst or natural. It appears the p90s have a different name and the neck is different. Wondered if you have played both and compare?
The amp is a Marshall DSL 40CR. I used a few pedals, the list is in the video description. I think in this one I was mainly using the Keeley D&M drive. For cleaning I use Ernie Ball Instrument Polish, it’s gentle on the guitars and has worked well for me. Cheers!
Maybe it's just me but the color, finish, lighting and the camera angle makes the top look like it's made from plastic. Then it got me thinking, a plastic resin guitar, they probably make one already. I'm not really knowledgeable about amps and feedback but does feedback differ in the severity if one is using a tube amp or a solid state amp?
No you’re right, it does kind of look like plastic. It’s an odd finish but kind of cool. The amp probably won’t make much difference, I was able to get this to feedback with the Spark haha!
@@TheQakmanI really like the Spark! I keep it in the living room and use it all the time. Those videos were pretty early haha. I should do an update now that I’ve had it for awhile.
Hey Kyle, I need your suggestion, I have the guitar, amp, tuner, wah pedal, metronome and a reverb unit if I could get just one more thing and that's it, what would you suggest aside from another guitar or amp?
Some kind of overdrive. I like ones similar to either a Klon, tube screamer, or blues driver depending on what sound you want. Klon clones are good to add clean grit, TS gives mid drive, and blues drivers are good for heavier gain. There are several versions of each out there. I recently picked up a Keeley D&M that is basically a TS and BD in one pedal.
@@onemoreguitarchannel My musical interest is mainly older stuff like CCR/John Fogerty, Steppenwolf, music from that era but I like music from the 50s too. Hard rock interest would be Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, KISS and instrumental is The Ventures, Shadows and Sandals. What kind of pedal or effect would I need to cover the majority of my selection? Btw, I also enjoy AWB and Tower of Power .
@@hwnfrd Heck yeah I love that stuff too. Well the easy answer is you need all of them 😄. I’d say TS, you can get a wide range out of those from subtle gain to decently heavy. BD is thicker and Klon is thinner. TS is more versatile for that kind of rock, to me anyway.
@@onemoreguitarchannel Thanks for your advice, my last question is what brand tube screamer should I get or are they all about the same , should go for something not to expensive?
@@hwnfrd I’d probably just go with a TS9 or mini since they are both under $100. I’ve heard good things about the Joyo Vintage Overdrive for $35 but I haven’t tried one.
This is NOT a 60s Epiphone. The E logo on the pickguard was always impressed into the guard and NOT embossed. I've played a 61 ( our lead player's). Also , modern Epiphone pickups suck, they are an insult to the name Epiphone. Te mini- humbuckers c. 1961 were the best. They only sell cause Jhn Lennon used one , so too the Stones in the sixties. There's were original. modern day ones are awful. i couldn't get through the sound demo on this horrid piece of rubbish.
