Glory To GOD!!! I grew up in an Assembly of GOD Church, and when someone told me that it is an "Armenian Church," I had no idea what they were talking about - I had never even heard the term "Armenian" before. I remember thinking - well then that must be a good thing, because we are in the truth! A couple years later I asked the pastor, if he had heard of Paul Washer, and he said no. I then asked the pastor if he believes in election, and he turned and very sternly said: we believe in John 3:16, and walked away from me quickly, so I left the church just as quickly. He may be a brother in CHRIST - but that was a terrible way to handle my question. I had been working up the nerve to bring up the question for at least a month or so and I was doing some reading, and I needed a little help. I truly liked this pastor for years. It was a small church of about 150. I enjoyed the friendly congregation, and I do miss them! I put you tube on one day because my two sons had been telling me to watch Paul Washer, and I have been grateful to GOD for Paul Washer ever since! Then there was a suggestion to watch a sermon by a John MacArthur. I thought - why not? I could change it or shut it off if I didn't believe him. Glory to GOD - I have not stopped listening to John MacArthur teaching and preaching the truth of GOD'S Word ever since - about 4 years now! I found out about you, Steve Lawson from there and I listen to your teaching and preaching the truth of GOD'S Word now as well, and I praise and thank GOD for your ministry also!
Yes, Kimberlee, such changes are wrought in us when God puts on the light from above. In the past 4.5 years in searching for a true church, we have come across many like that 'pastor' who turned away from you. We must be wary of all arminians (Arminius and Calvin had a long conflicted set-to, a story that is most revealing). Happy journeying?

What I see: He went into “seminary” with a right theology. He picked his first Calvinist book and read it. Since then he had put on the Calvinistic lenses to read the Bible. He could not take those lenses off, he thought he saw the truth, and a new Calvinist was made. I was made a Calvinist that way by the teaching and preaching of Calvinists. Thank God I am not one anymore and start seeing biblical truth again. Just go to channels like Soteriology101 or Beyond The Fundamentals and you can see how Calvinism is exposed with clear and detailed biblical expository.

Wai, the way you phrase this question completely misunderstands the reformed theology. When you say “force” people.. God doesn’t force people against their wills into heaven. He so helps us to see His glory in the Gospel by His great love, and so works in us that we are changed to receive Christ and love God in return. This is the gospel of John chapter 1. The fact is that apart from Gods saving grace we would continue in our sin and rebellion as haters of God. You can read this in Romans 1. This is why when God “chooses” (as *you* put it) those who do reject Christ and continue in sin, to damnation, it’s righteous and just for God to do so.
