A good friend of mine asked me if I wanted this thing earlier in the year, and recently we met up and here it is! A Hoover Senior that's not seen much love recently... But does it work?

That was a scary experience for you... I would go of and scream and I'd never use it again. Since I am from the U.S, I feel really bad that something like that had to blow up. They are valuable in our country but they are probably common for you to find.

Best part of the video - 13:16 , went with a right bang that did, first time I've seen a suppressor blow, usually they are hidden inside the machine, but with the hood off we saw it in all its glory. Like a firework going off, very cool indeed. Going on the serial number, the fact it starts JT means its pre 1967, but the green 652A came out mid 60s with initially the on off red pedal, but that changed to the ROLO switch shortly into the green model run. I would estimate that it dates to 1966, very close to being of the age when the serial number system changed to the system where the date code followed the model number in 1967. You'd have thought they might had at least made an effort to clean out the muck before gifting it to you wouldn't you? I think the Velcro was added later on as the zip broke, and a handy housewife got the needle and thread out, and stitched the Velcro closure on.

Not too sure if I'm going to work any magic on it though... I've got another far better 652a that'll be the one that gets mintered up.

"ribbed for her electrical pleasure" 😂😂😂 always so many non sequiturs. Love it! This Hoover is how I feel, knackered beyond reasonable repair! And far too old to be worth the effort.

The hood looks pretty done for, might be possible to glue it back together and polish it until it looks alright but sounds like a lot of work.

Lovely fireworks! I now remove suppressors by default before even plugging a “new” vac in!!! I mean I don’t need that kind of emotion:-) However I’d keep it, sometimes you find vacs with very bad metal parts and hoods/lenses/other details still good! Cheers Tommy

You would think after having a couple blow on you it would get less scary over time but it doesn't 😂 I don't use them anymore if they are still suppressed, quick turn on outside to see if machine works but then if it does I will switch it off and it won't come back on again until the suppressor is gone, and even then I won't go anywhere near it until it has been removed. I have never had one go during use though, only as soon as I have switched them on. Horrible things either way that need to go. I don't bother removing the Electrolux ones though as all they do is smoke a bit, and usually the machine keeps on running. Its the bloody Hoover ones that are explosive! Saying that the Vax 121 ones are absolutely massive but I have never had one of them go, and I don't want to either!

Probably best to part this out for spares for other nicer Seniors that might need a motor or soft bag.

Sadly Hoover haven't sold parts for this for decades 😢 The hood and lens are particularly hard to find and pricy when you do
