This set of tutorials shows you how to get started using WCF.
Tutorial 1 shows you how to use the template provided by Visual Studio as the service, and then to use a very basic console application to act as the client.
Part 2 is here: • A basic WCF tutorial -...
Part 3 is here: • A basic WCF tutorial -...

This was great help. Thanks for making this. Bless ya! What struck out the most was that you kept the focus of code on one thing and deleted all the rest of it. I think doing it on console rather than using ASP.NET was particularly clever.

Hey man, Really great Tutorial. You have a clear perspective on this and unlike the other tutorials on this topic actually provides context and an overview of why and how this works. You could do this professionally. Have you thought about Udemy? This course is way better then anything they have on there on this topic.

I really do wish you had made more parts, you are amazing at making tutorials. Sadly you fall in the same trap as almost every other individual making tutorials on youtube, you make one part and never continue it. but part 1 was well done!

And that... is a fair comment ("same trap..."! :-) OK, let us see if you have shamed me into going back to this. In the meantime, here are the 3 parts from my blog postings: dennisaa.wordpress.com/2015/12/12/net-simplest-wcf-service-and-client/ dennisaa.wordpress.com/2015/12/12/net-hosting-the-simple-wcf-service-in-iis/ dennisaa.wordpress.com/2015/12/13/neta-client-for-an-iis-hosted-wcf-service/

You explained it very well Sir. Thanks. I've a question. does this approach is good to use in Development Life Cycle , Like the self hosting the service in one solution including client app as well. ? or it is better to host the service on some other place and access it through some app that is not in the same solution ?

The latter. Separation of concerns is the way to go in a "proper" development and production scenario: performance (network latency aside, maybe), security, and cleanliness of design and development all benefit from decoupling. My tutorials are always just to get viewers "up and running", because for me the simplest possible example is a good way to kick start my learning. However, once you have that understanding, you then need to stand back and separate out the setup that supports that learning, and the learning itself. Typically you will throw away the setup part, because it has no place in your proposed production solution. It might be useful sometimes, like in a self-contained solution that targets a single customer, with no requirement for scaling, security or the ability to allow development by multiple developers concurrently. However, the use-case for a web service would be unlikely to tick those boxes.

when I follow the tutorial, trying to add to the client console app the Service Reference localhost:8733/Design_Time_Addresses/WcfServiceLibrary1/Service1/mex, it gives an error, --------------------------- There was an error downloading metadata from the address. Please verify that you have entered a valid address. --------------------------- OK Help --------------------------- how to fix this ? I am running win10
